    I paused on your timetable to see how you use your time on a productive day because I have a lot of work to catch up on and I see you have no breaks except 10 minutes for lunch and a 45min walk? Like damn I could never do that, that's really impressive. I know you don't like taking breaks because it disrupts your flow and you just switch to slightly easier/ less demanding tasks. I use to be able to do that too but then I fell into a depression because of things happening around me and now I completely lost my drive. I'm able to study for an hour at a time now which is a big improvement from a year ago where I just started crying as soon as I sat behind my desk. I really hope to find that drive again where I naturally just keep going and I don't have to drag myself forward every minute of a study session.

      Don't beat yourself up for it, you're doing the best you can! I'm definitely not as productive as I used to be in the past, I tend to do chunks of study with little breaks in between or I lose all my drive. But I heard it's actually a good thing, so one can get up, take a short walk, drink a glass of water... Instead of remaining sitting down for too long.
      Music helps me tons to concentrate maybe it can help you as well! When I listen to something I like I find the studying much more enjoyable :-)

      Do only how much you're able to! As someone who is recovering from depression and having some health problems (I have to sleep for 12h to function well and still geting tired after about 6 hours of living) I simply don't have the same amount of time nor energy as healthy person. I try to don't push myself hard, because in the end it will make everything worse. But you know what? I still manage to have rather good grades at uni, maybe I'm not the best but probably I have to put the same effort as others (including my health limitations that make things harder). So please, don't be harsh on yourself!

    • @daniellechan6360
      @daniellechan6360 4 роки тому +2

      I definitely felt the same way you did and actually did develop a disorder over too much stress. I lost my drive completely I completely didn’t feel like doing anything. I usually work on a podomoro timer for abt 80/10 which is 80 minutes of work and 10 minutes of rest. I usually slowly bump up the study time period along my day if it’s starts out bad then I’ll start at 25/10 then I’ll up it slowly. If it starts out okay I’ll go from maybe 80/10 and slow down. Recovery is not a straight line, take one step at a time. It’s not healthy to study for lengths at a time. As much as I truly wish to have Ruby’s attention span and motivation, it is important to know that she most likely only does this she has a bunch of deadlines or upcoming exams.

    I sincerely appreciate you! I've been following for years, its just sometimes I think about holly, jade, eve and so on (who have other interests that take up time apart from university) and it makes me think.. it wouldnt be a waste of time to just relax and not force the motivation for 15 hours in a weekend. I talk from experience, social interation even at these times is really needed for our mental health. Keep us motivating, but dont feel that if you make a vlog of you binge watching a cool tv programme, that yours fans will judge.. in fact it would make you more relatable. This year I had to stop watching you at one point because every title was "how to be motivated / or avoid procrastination / read 1000 books" and most of us ( me in argentina) and people around the globe were worried for things like.. would I be able to keep on studying or worse sou. To Ruby:
    Thank you for being so amazing and always motivating us! You gave me motivation to start reading again after not reading a book for MONTHS and I finished 3 books within a few days and I bought the Percy Jackson book series yesterday! You also gave me motivation to start learning pre-algebra, I’m only in 6th grade so I decided to learn it for fun since it’s not a requirement. You motivated me to work without being under stress and I know you motivated over 50 people to fix their sleep schedules (I’m working on fixing mine), pick up reading again, put more effort into their work if they were struggling with focusing before and a lot more!
    PS: It’s okay to not be able to focus on what you’re doing! I also lose focus very easily, I always have to fidget with something just to actually understand a word someone says.

    while it works for you, my top tip for online studying that i keep telling everyone is to take the weekend off and work productively during the week. i cannot stress how much better and more productive i am during weeks when i've taken the weekend off than when i don't. it helps motivate me to study as i know i'll have a chance to have a good, guilt-free break on saturday and sunday as long as i work hard during the week, and i don't get burnt out like i used to. i know it can be hard to switch off with uni work but honestly it's been the best thing for my mental health. i generally have the attitude that, if i've worked hard during the week, i can't be expected to work at the weekend and i make my peace with not doing certain pieces of non-essential work if there's too much. i'm also very happy to apply for extensions if i think the workload has not been manageable to do in a working week. ✨let's normalise universities allowing us to have time off and a good work-life balance like you would in any other job ✨

      @susannah6500 4 роки тому +19

      I completely agree, nothing wrong with studying on a weekend if you enjoy it but it shouldn’t be thought of as a requirement for all students. The way I look at it is, most people with an average full time job only work 5 days a week and typically get the weekend off..so why should uni students be expected to work 7 days a week? I think as long as you work as much as you can during the week, you’re fine to take the weekend off unless you have a pressing deadline on Monday morning or something haha.

    • @amymccall2000
      @amymccall2000 4 роки тому +2

      @@susannah6500 Oh yes I totally get what you mean! Being a full time uni student shouldn't have to consume every day of the week, although some people do enjoy studying a lot which is fair enough, for me though I need solid breaks! I have worked through many a weekend rushing an essay ahaha, and I used to have no lectures/seminars on Fridays so I always has a long weekend when I could😜 but when I studied I did it well and got grades I was proud of, so I guess a typical week for a uni student can be flexible also

      As flexible as a student timetable can be, as a second-year Modern Languages student I honestly do not have the time to take the weekend off. I study every day of the week and weekend. On a Tuesday I have 6 hours of classes on-line, which really take the wind out of you so that's the only day I do not do other work.
      Furthermore, I worked for a year before uni and I really think studying and working at a desk on something you already know how to do and you don't have to think as much (of course there are many tiring aspects of working too!!) isn't the same amount of energy hour for hour. Just my two pence :)

    Thank you for the lovely and motivating video, Ruby ☺️ You are very inspiring and you are one of my favorite UA-camrs❤️ (You’re glowing, by the way. Love your aesthetics) I’ve never really been this early to a video because I live in the Philippines hahaha. Tchaikovsky is also my favorite composer, along with Debussy, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. I hope I can wake up early enough to join one of your Live Study with me’s. Thank you again for all the dedication you have for your channel. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that you help so many of is keep up in many aspects in our lives. Much Love!

    @Ruby: Maybe you could try to drop some of the candles‘ wax into the candle holder and then press the end of the candle into the wax while it’s still hot. In this way you could secure the candle so that it’s standing straight. I really have a bad feeling because it looks like it could fall out of the candle holder very easily and burn something.
