Omg the research thing- I do that too! I call it my wonderland time because I can let myself fall down an internet rabbit hole for 30 mins everyday and it’s great to relax and just keep that love of learning.
OMG! I should probably import that into my life since I've got many dark fascinations that I would love to learn more about, but I've got so much to do at the moment and I don't have any time to do extra stuff - I don't even have time to eat or sleep sometimes!
Although I am not a student, you must be a tremendous inspiration for today's students. I would like to think that if UA-cam had been around when I was a student, your videos would have been a motivation to be a better one. I have hope for your generation precisely because of you.
Dear Ruby, I want to say that I am so incredibly grateful that you post youtube videos! Thanks to you, I became the best version of myself, as I do like studying but I never really embraced it the way I do since I watch your videos. You made me so much more productive and I also experienced the hygge-feeling you mentioned in one of your videos while studying. Now, I am the same bookworm I have been when I was younger, I love studying and do it quite a lot and I listen to a lot of classical music, all thanks to you and your UA-cam videos. They made me quaint, grateful and more attentive to the small things in life ❤
i always write the reference at the top when making notes on a reading. then when it comes time to do the reference list, i just copy in the references i've preprepared, so it all takes a lot less time (or, at least, the time is split up so it seems less cumbersome). also, word documents have a handy button in the top bar by all the indenting options that orders your reference list for you. it looks like an A over a Z with a downwards arrow next to it. saves a lot of time alphabetising it all and i couldn't believe i didn't know about it before.
Just a tip on saving time when doing citations/references: There are programmes that essentially do it for you!!✨🙏🏼😍 Personally, I use “zotero’. But a friend of mine, who studies English and German, uses “citavi” and is really happy with it☺️ Essentially, you add the books, articles etc. into a database once and then you can add them in word/libreoffice/pages etc. For zotero, there’s also a browser extension which automatically detects the meta-data of a book/article etc. and you literally have to click once to have all the information added into your database✨ And of course the programmes automatically do a bibliography for you, too. And you can choose between different citation styles etc. These programmes have saved me sooo much time and I always wonder why they are not more popular with students. It takes about five minutes to get the basics and saves time and also means less errors in citations🥳 would very much recommend trying it🤓✨ That being said, such a lovely video, Ruby! I enjoy these types of videos (minus you being stressed of course) so much, thank you for uploading them🥰
I just finished today all my exams and I am feeling kind of miserable (because of some other things of course) and unproductive. And yet here you are with a new video making my day! Thank you Ruby for being here and always uploading when I need you. You really help me academically and mentally! Sending you love and stay safe💗
Your walks are so majestic and magical, they remind me of an excerpt from The Secret Garden: "The big closed house and big bare moor and big bare gardens had made this one feel as if there was no one left in the world but herself." It’s just beautiful.
Hi Ruby: I just want to say I truly loved this video because not only did you honestly acknowledge that this essay was overwhelming you but you stepped away and allowed yourself to put your mental health first by taking a walk and, later, a break. Although they may not have written the essay for you, you allowed yourself the necessary space to not let it break you down and that is beautiful. Then, after you had submitted it, you gave yourself individual space to destress before the next taxing academic task. It is crucial for those watching Study Tube and Study Tubers to realise you all are real human beings who have highs and lows, stresses and utter joys. Academics is just as much a taxing thing, at times, as it is for everyone else. Thank you Ruby. ❤️, 🌹
Hey Ruby, I was wondering if you have ever considered getting an extra monitor to use for your studies? It really helps alot when doing research and writing papers, especially with mental clutter and stress that comes from having to switch back and forth between tabs and the file(s) you are working on at that moment. I know they don't exactly fit in with the aesthetic of your room, but perhaps it's an option to get a small one that is stored away easily when you don't want to use it?
She can use her iPad, and she can use it as a monitor since she has a MacBook. (Tip: update to the latest version of MacOS and iPadOS, so that feature can work perfectly).
Congratulations on your 80's mark, so good. I was so happy when I got marks this high last year for essays, I hope it gives you confidence for the rest of the year. I'm so surprised you do refs at the end! this would be the end of me!! Honestly try doing them as you go, it's *so* much quicker. I just copy and paste mine in from the google scholar citation thing, or even just from the top of the paper, then I format them all at the end. Even if you have some you don't use it's so quick to scan through and check for any you didn't use and delete from the list. I did this bit for an essay I submitted this week w 50 references and it took a few minutes.
After next week will be my first time in university (in my country, school and most universities start at February). It was very hard to get in college, lot of pressure and stress, but watching your videos it was just so inspiring and a source of motivation. Thanks for being one of the few people who helped me don't giving up❤️ Edit: my English is kind rusty, I'm sorry.
I can see why so many people adore you...your so hard working... Earning everything... Very kind soul...just a nice person when all said and done....videos are really well done too...fun and educational... Great job young lady..Mini yahoo...lol
I've needed this! Some motivation to keep me going at the end of a hard month! Thank you for posting amazing content that never fails to make me feel energized and ready to work.
Such a nice view from your windows. I don’t know how a literature essay can be perfect in the first place. That’s why I like science. In science, when something is perfect, it’s obvious.
I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and it’s lovely to see how far you’ve come. Also I’m so proud of you for your amazing feedback. It’s very much deserved!
Hi Ruby!I just wanted to say I've watched you from your 15 hour study day and have been hooked since then. You give me a sense of calm and stability and helped me grow as a person, all these years.Thank you so much for being you and creating such amazing content.Lots of love, from India. You've helped me through some really tough times.thank you 💫❤️
There’s a website you can use to make all your references! You just put in the reference or link of your article and it does it for you with any style you want (you can choose like Cambridge, Oxford style etc), and they put it in alphabetical order too. I’ll give you the name of the site when I get home if you’re interested! Amazing video btw❤️
I related so badly to the essay stress in this video - I've been on an emotional rollercoaster with a chapter of my dissertation and feel like I just cannot seem to word it right now matter how many times I've tried to write certain sections. For the ordering of references in your bibliography, as long as you make them in different paragraphs on Word you can then use the A-Z tool and it puts them in alphabetical order for you! (Tip I learnt far too late into my degree and wish I'd known sooner)
Wow I'm going to start college this winter. And i already love my college soooo much. They are soo helpful and friendly.. I am so proud of being a part of Cornell university.🥰🥰
Thank you for the motiviation, Ruby! :) I think a reference management program like Citavi is extremely helpful. It saves you a lot of time and prevents formal mistakes.
I was so happy to see you stand for a bit with your laptop it’s important. Having experienced back pain myself I’d encourage everyone to switch between standing and sitting if you’re working at a desk. It’s recommended to sit one hour at a time.
hey ruby i don't know if you'll read this, but if you're using word to write, save & export the essay (or any paper), you can use the integrated function of putting in references. you'll put them in each individually & then click on "add bibliography" and it'll put that in automatically (in the reference system you use for uni - you can choose that as well!). hope this helps!
hey ruby, lovely to see another video, and especially cool (as a kiwi) to see you talk about our kākāpō! just thought I’d mention though the first ‘a’ is a long one rather than short (kaa-ka-po) :)
If you’re using word (and probably if you’re using google doc) you can highlight all your references and click “sort” and I think it’s “paragraph” and make sure “ascending” is clicked and the document will alphabetize them for you
Congratulations on your amazing essay grade!🎉 You really deserved it, after working so hard for it! And thank you for this ästhetic and motivating video🥰
I do not miss having to write papers! My favorite paper I wrote though was about Juno Diaz' book, the Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. My teacher thought it was so brilliant that she read it to the entire class. I actually got to use my nerdiness about the Lord of the Rings in that one which was so fun. The most fun I ever had writing a paper for school. Now I write personal essays for fun. :)
I am not sure if you know but I thought it might be helpful, with references if you put them into word and select the a-z button that has an arrow pointing down next to it, this will automatically put them in order rather than having to do it manually, it saves so much time. Hope this helps! 🥰
I know people are suggesting Zotero as a reference manager but may I suggest mendeley instead. It has a word plug-in so really great functionality for you.
You’re doing references by hand 😱 I would really recommend looking into some referencing software (you need one of you plan to stay in academia as different journals require different referencing formats - so being able to change these with just a click is a must). Great video 🙂
Ruby, I absolutely love your videos💕 they’re very unique and different that other video’s. Could you please make a video on how you write your essay’s and how you make notes.
Hey, great video, here's a quick tip that might help in your case ! When I get confused while choosing the best version from my drafts, I simply take an unbiased opinion (may be from a relative or a good friend / also from a parent if you think that they can give you " a true" opinion). It helps to get a fresh perspective !! You can also ask your lecturer or the supervisor if it is possible :) Good Luck for the upcoming exam.
Interesting about the ads Ruby, thanks for explaining. You're basically donating your time and bandwidth to their organization, but in order to use their name and footage, you have to declare it.
What a coincidence, I'm also currently writing an essay and I have to submit it by the end of this week. I'm that kind of person who can't just write and then edit afterwards, I keep proofreading and editing with every paragraph I write which can be exhausting 😆 Mine is about second person PoV in narration in two novels that I have chosen. It's a lot of work but it's also really interesting!
This came at such a perfect time! I have two lab reports to write and I'm just so mentally exhausted. Thank you so much for this video, it makes me feel less alone! Edit: I finished them, and for once, not at the last minute!
Honestly, until I set some huge and intense deadline for myself, my brain won't kick into gear to study, so yeah sometimes stress is good to get some serious work done...what do you think?
Hi Ruby! could you share the name/artist/composer of the song at 11:05 when you work on the bibliography? I LOVE this piece but I can't find it via Shazam... Thank you!
Yeah I’m done with my first ever semester of high school it didn’t go as bad as I thought it would! Also can you make a video on how to write essays because I have English soon and never wrote a proper essay so I would like to know how it’s done.
I totally loved this video but have a small suggestion: I've noticed that in many of your videos, the volume in your voiceover is a lot louder than when you talk to the camera, so I need to adjust my volume every time it changes. Maybe you could try to fix that, but it's no big deal ☺🌻
I've been procrastinating a lot lately AND ITS EXAM WEEK! I needed this video to reset myself.... thank you Ruby
You got this💪
Good luck! You can do it ❤️
Me too . But you got this mate
Yesss, I'm like not working enough at all. I skipp way to many things and start learning to late. You are absolutely not the only one. You got this❤💫
how do you deal with studying in cold shillong winter?
Omg the research thing- I do that too! I call it my wonderland time because I can let myself fall down an internet rabbit hole for 30 mins everyday and it’s great to relax and just keep that love of learning.
Omg how cool is that!! I need to implement that into my life, thank you for the inspiration 😊
OMG! I should probably import that into my life since I've got many dark fascinations that I would love to learn more about, but I've got so much to do at the moment and I don't have any time to do extra stuff - I don't even have time to eat or sleep sometimes!

Interesting about the ads Ruby, thanks for explaining. You're basically donating your time and bandwidth to their organization, but in order to use their name and footage, you have to declare it.
If you're interested in conservation, I would recommend reading The Sixth Extinction!
Had a very stressful last 2 weeks to get 2 exams preped for 1 essay and 1 presentation nice to know ours are in my situation x
What a coincidence, I'm also currently writing an essay and I have to submit it by the end of this week. Ruby
Such a good choice to convert to studying English literature. So pleased your hard work is paying off. xx
OR EVEN A MEET UP would you consider having a meet up in London maybe with holly too!
omg i would love that
Did you know there was an A-Z sorting list in word that will automatically alphabetically sort out your references. Saves huge amounts of times !!
I have finals too and I'm stressed out 😅 but watching you study is so fun and motivates mee❤️❤️❤️
Have you thought about recording longer Study with me? For example around 1 or 2 hours?
Honestly, until I set some huge and intense deadline for myself, my brain won't kick into gear to study, so yeah sometimes stress is good to get some serious work done...what do you think?
Hi Ruby! Can you do a video on how you plan your essays and how you go about writing them?
Sooo quaint !!
omg i was just going to ask what your dreams/goals are besides your degree. i love this video
Hi Ruby! could you share the name/artist/composer of the song at 11:05 when you work on the bibliography? I LOVE this piece but I can't find it via Shazam... Thank you!

Excellent video. You always make me smile. 😁💖
