It's also clear from your videos, that you guys have already done research before coming here. Another thing to note, the things you observe, especially on religion, etc. it is a common sight in practically the entire country and not just in Penang. Another thing that you mentioned about the predominantly chinese architecture in town, is that historically, the chinese people are the ones that preferred living in the towns whereas the malays and indians mainly lived in villages in the countryside. I'm not sure if you missed it, but there is a Christian cemetery pretty close to that church you visited that has some famous people buried there like Francis Light, who founded the British colony of Penang and Thomas Leonowens, whose wife Anna, was the inspiration for the well known musical, "The King and I" by rogers and hammerstein.
The fact that Malaysia is not considered a secular country, although it has a large population of ethnic Indians and Chinese, considering that most Malays only marry Malays, and that if ethnic Chinese and Indians marry Malays, they by default need to convert to Islam and their children become Muslims, whereas Indonesia does not have such stringent rules, is what makes Malaysia different from the other secular Muslim countries. Malaysia has much stricter religious rules and most Malays wear the hijab, whereas in Indonesia, Central Asia and even Iran it is much more common for girls not to wear the hijab.

Period. Malaysia or malaya are granted independence by the British on the condition that it is a Secular non Islamic, multi religion, multi racial and multi cultural country. Period. The British have unchallengeable legal rights to revoke the grant of independence of Malaya and malaysia. The Muslim Melayu or malay has irremediably breached all the conditions for the grant of independence which started on May 13, 1969 heinous Islamic atrocities targeted the non Muslims Chinese. That was the kickstart of the irremediable breaches that followed until today. All non Muslims malaysia citizens welcomed the British exercising their unchallengeable legal rights to revoke the grant of independence to Malaya and malaysia.
This is not new. All already starts during Sultanate of Malacca about more than 600 years ago before invaded by Portuguese. Modern Malaysia just inherited the prosperous of Sultanate of Malacca, in fact still not comparable with that era.
The country’s laws are still according to the state religion. So, for example, being gay in malaysia is punishable with 20 years in prison with whippings.

Not just multi cultural as by Constitution malaysia is a multi religion non Islamic country. Malaya and Malaysia can never be an Islamic country as that is the condition for the grant of independence by the British and the British have unchallengeable legal rights to revoke the independence of Malaya and malaysia which is much welcome by all non Muslims
it is an Islamic country, as stated in the constitution. but everyone has the space and freedom to practice their religion 99% of the time. except the Malays, others are free to believe anything they want openly. for Malays, not openly.
@@az-fy3mp not islamic country...Islam the main religion of the Federation stated in constitution only for conserved the majority religion and make Islam the highest places. Malaysia not adopt religion theocratic to become islamic country and Malaysia adopted parliamentary democracy
Malaysia is an Islamic country in certain contexts, but not absolutely. Malaysia is not a fully Islamic country as practiced by countries such as Saudi Arabia or Iran, which fully practice sharia law as the basis of government. On the contrary, Malaysia is a secular country with strong Islamic characteristics. Here is an explanation: 1. Malaysia as an Islamic State (in certain contexts): Islam is the religion of the Federation: Article 3(1) of the Malaysian Constitution states that "Islam is the religion of the Federation, but other religions may be practiced peacefully and peacefully in any part of the Federation." This makes Islam special in Malaysia, but does not mean that Malaysia is a theocratic country. Role of the Malay Rulers: The Malay Rulers are the heads of the Islamic religion in their respective states, while the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the head of the Islamic religion for states without a king. This emphasizes the position of Islam in the government structure. Implementation of sharia law: The judicial system in Malaysia combines civil law and sharia law. Sharia law only applies to Muslims in certain cases, such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and religious offenses (for example, not fasting or gambling). However, the jurisdiction of the Sharia courts is limited compared to civil courts. Islamic policies and practices: Malaysia has introduced various policies based on Islamic principles, such as Islamic banking, zakat, religious education, and economic development for Muslims. --- 2. Malaysia as a Secular State: Freedom of religion: The Malaysian Constitution guarantees freedom of religion to its citizens, although Islam is given priority. Other religions such as Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism can be practiced freely. Civil law as the main foundation: Malaysia's legal system is based on British civil law. Sharia law only covers certain areas for Muslims, and civil law has greater authority. Inclusive economy and politics: Although there are specific policies for Muslims, the Malaysian administration also involves non-Muslims in all aspects of social, economic, and political life. --- Conclusion: Malaysia can be considered an Islamic country in the context of culture, constitution, and administration, as Islam has a very important role in the lives of the people and the structure of the country. However, the secular nature of the legal system and freedom of religion indicate that Malaysia is a secular country with a dominant Islamic element, not a fully Islamic country.
