For your lunch food, Amok. I think that's not basil(the herb)... Because the basil can't be crunchy and that is different shape. I think That can be ស្លឹកញ៉ (noni leave) ,or ស្លឹកកន្ទួត (phyllanthus acidus leave). These two leaves always were used in Amok dish.

Cambodian foods are definitely heavily underrated. Most thai foods and desserts originate in Cambodia since the Khmer Cambodia Empire ruled most of South East Asia. The Khmer Cambodian Empire existed before the thais escaped from their homeland China as Chinese pirates to settle in the Khmer Cambodian Empire. Vietnamese and Laotians are also Chinese descendants. Some of the Vietnamese and Laotian foods and desserts are also originally Cambodian. Cambodians have a lot of history and relations with India. Most thais will never accept and admit the truth that much of their history, culture, traditions, art, architecture, foods, formalities, dances, and royal etiquette were copied from or originated in Cambodia. That’s called STEALING. Most thais are continuously acting like pirates lying and stealing from Cambodia to the present day. They tried to steal Angkor Wat since ancient times and now the Preah Vihear temple as well as spreading disinformation about their history and identities. They are rewriting their history with lies in their schools and universities. It’s so wrong, immoral, and disgusting.
Therefore, Cambodian culture, foods, art and history are incredibly rich, but due to the tragic genocide and Khmer Rouge terror, much had been lost or hidden. The thais got most of the credit for what they never deserved unfortunately. Although, they managed to steal and copy many things from Cambodia, there are still many other unique foods and dishes they were unable to take or replicate. I wish there were more Cambodian restaurants and more educated sources shedding light on Cambodia and its rich history, foods, art, and culture. I am glad that more people are learning and researching about the true history of Cambodia and not just believing a bunch of lies from most of the thais. It’s not too late and more westerners are becoming more aware and educated about Cambodia, their people, and their history. 😊
I love Cambodian foods since my Khmer friends from Church introduced me to them. Their foods are so rich and savory with plenty of spices but no excessive chilli flavors. It’s a great delicious balance of flavors! I would say Lemongrass Paste dishes would be their staple ingredient foundation since it is found in most of their traditional cuisines.
Try their Beef Skewers, Cambodian Sausages, Chicken Lemongrass Paste Stir Fry, Amok, Morning Glory Beef Lemongrass Paste Sweet and Sour Soup, Prahok Ktiss, Lort Cha Stir fry noodles, Green Mango Shrimp Salad, Fish Gravy Dip with rice and Veggies ( Thuk Kreung), Cucumber Chicken Salad, Palm Cakes, Sweet Corn Tapioca, etc… Here are the other ones I am sure you have tried these before in the other countries like Steak Green Papaya Salad, Mango Sticky Rice, Chicken Red Curry, Chicken Porridge with Chinese Donuts, Banana Friitters, Jackfruit Desserts, Palm Cakes, and a whole bunch of desserts. Again, they are all originally Cambodian with some Indian inspirations, particularly the curries since curries originate in India. Also, try the yummy palm cakes in Pradak Siem Reap Cambodia, known as the most delicious traditional Cambodian Palm Cakes ever. Enjoy!

Try SOGA Café, Bistrot & School, 69B, Street, 178
Phnom penh, Cambodia. It is run by some guys from Cambodia that either were born in France and or spent a lot of time there. It was excellent French/Cambodian restaurant if you are still there. Thanks for this video! I'll try your suggestions when I'm back there. Safe travels!!
