I made a video discussing the disadvantages of having multiple guitars. If you want to check it out, you can do so here: ua-cam.com/video/gSMXeLtC58c/v-deo.html
I'm always a minimalist, and I have 4 guitars currently, because for different tunings saving your benefit 1 point: Ibanez RG565 = E-standard LTD M-1 Custom '87 = Eb-tuned FGN Iliad Odyssey (24-fret Tele) = D-standard (and drop-C) FGN Boundary = Drop-B I resented all these "detuned pedals" until I was advised by one of those guys at the guitar store who I bumped with at the pub and we had some casual talks, to get a Digitech Drop because they've known my sales history (yeah these guys don't outsell me, they actually look after and gave sound advice). AND THE Digitech Drop was a life-changer! Now I'm regretting buying all these guitars, I could have saved a lot and just get 2 guitars! (The FGN Boundary and the Ibanez RG565 will be sold) The LTD M-1 is my go-to guitar; it's made in WMI South Korea and that guitar is like--it shames the Ibanez RG565 that I have (which is MiJ). It will be on E-standard, Eb-tuned, and D-standard. I'll get an EVH D-tuna so it can do a Drop-D and Drop-C at max. The FGN Iliad (the 24-fret tele) will be on Drop-B, and Drop-A. The PRS SE I'm thinking of buying is going to be for E-standard purposes...though it's more of redundant really... ^^" I guess it's just something to replace the RG565. :)
I’m happy to hear about your positive experience with the guy at the guitar store! That was kind of him to point you in the direction of the Digitech Drop. Part of life is the lessons we learn along the way, so don’t feel bad about getting those other guitars. I’m sure you’ve learned what you like/dislike about those guitars (I know with the Ibanez you’ve shared your thoughts 😄). If you go with the PRS SE I hope it compliments your collection!
Another benefit of having multiple guitars is the significant other may not have any idea of how many there actually are. I re-homed a couple this year and managed to adopt some as well.
I'm a professional musician, but im also a gear head lol I have 18 guitars in total, 2 acoustics, 1 classical, and 15 electrics, but to be honest I only have 4 of those electrics on my regular rotation, because they're just so much fun to play. not like the other ones are not, but I have signature guitars, or guitars that I wanted as a teenager that I wanna keep for collection purposes, realistically you only need 2, maybe 3 good guitars in your life, but the more the merrier right?
If you don’t mind me asking, what are the 4 electrics in your regular rotation? I’m with you on that. I have guitars I don’t play as often but like you said, it doesn’t mean they’re not fun to play. There’s only so much time you can play so might as well play the ones that you enjoy the most. But yeah if you’re a collector then probably the more the merrier! 😄
@@bjackson4 I have CS Nick Johnston signature, a boutique builder HSS Strat, Ibanez MM1, and a Charvel MJ DK24 that I modified with the Tim Henson fisherman set, I play a wide range of genres, so I need versatile guitars
Great video !! I’m guilty of having 20 or so , and I play almost all of them , it’s fun and I’m moody so I have themed guitars for blues, metal, country twang, etc … I love it all and I enjoy working on them. I’ll buy them cheap and fix them up… rewarding and fun hobby

I like having about 5. I try to have roles for them. Ones a couch guitar I just grab to work something out, my pretty old one (60s Harmony). for range (jaguar), for jazz/blues (wildkat), Spanish (classical), work guitar I leave at my office to enjoy (varies)
Beginner myself, but hard agree with #1 especially. I have a Strat that I love, but I’m already considering a second electric to leave in Eb standard because that’s what a lot of the songs I like and want to learn are in 😂
How do I get the social media algorithms to put this video in my wife's feed? 😂 jokes aside these are great points. Esp #2, if you have a special guitar that's your "baby", you need a workhorse guitar for gigs etc which won't leave you (as) heartbroken if it gets damaged or stolen.
@bjackson4 Oddly enough, my #1 is a Musi Vertigo Fusion I bought through Amazon($350). 2nd is my '07 MIK Esp/Ltd Viper-400. 3rd is my '02 Schecter 006 Elite. I'm a huge fan of late 90's to mid '00's korean guitars.
Did I miss the bit where we have an acoustic for playing in places where there is no power or are you instead carrying a battery powered amp into the wilderness. Definitely agree re tunings I have 2 identical acoustic basses E1,A,D,G & F#,B,E1,A usually covers most stuff I try and play along to on UA-cam whilst not annoying the neighbours. Also did you mention 12 string guitars & 8 string basses?
That’s a good point! I didn’t even touch on acoustics, 12 strings, or 8 string basses. Having an acoustic is nice but I also enjoy playing my electrics unplugged 😅.
That's insanity. I'd get paralysis by analysis trying to choose one to play. I'd always be thinking "maybe I should be playing that one instead of this one for this song..."

Well equivalent exchange I guess 😂
@@bjackson4 Not quite equivalent but I believe the additional two went totally unnoticed. 😎
Bottom line!
Every guitarist wants his own harem of guitars!
I go back and forth on this 😅

That’s a solid lineup of 4! 😎. Rock on!!

That’s a cool collection you’ve got! That pickup combo for the one you’re trying to build is going to be awesome 😎

Thank you for sharing! I’ve heard about the couch one before and I find that to be a cool thing. 😄
Beginner myself, but hard agree with #1 especially. I have a Strat that I love, but I’m already considering a second electric to leave in Eb standard because that’s what a lot of the songs I like and want to learn are in 😂
What are some of the songs?
I wish you the best with your guitar journey! Happy learning 😄.
Different scale lengths, different pickups/active and passive, pickup configuration/switching options/coil split, 5 way and 3 way toggle
Exactly 😎
How do I get the social media algorithms to put this video in my wife's feed? 😂 jokes aside these are great points. Esp #2, if you have a special guitar that's your "baby", you need a workhorse guitar for gigs etc which won't leave you (as) heartbroken if it gets damaged or stolen.
Funny 😂. Thank you so much! Yeah, I have 2 guitars that I currently feel that way about 😄. Thanks for watching!
I'm at 35 guitars BUT I'm slowing listing 10 for sale. 20 is enough, 25 is ideal IMO. Most are inexpensive or mid-tier models
What are some of your favorite guitars in your collection?
@bjackson4 Oddly enough, my #1 is a Musi Vertigo Fusion I bought through Amazon($350). 2nd is my '07 MIK Esp/Ltd Viper-400. 3rd is my '02 Schecter 006 Elite. I'm a huge fan of late 90's to mid '00's korean guitars.

I got a cheap hils as a backup for my work horse. it needs refret and will be out of commission for awhile
Which Hils did you get? Do you like it?
I want different guitars because of tones and tunings.
Great reasons 😄
I have 52 and counting. Crazy guitar guy. Don’t ask about my chainsaws!
That's insanity. I'd get paralysis by analysis trying to choose one to play. I'd always be thinking "maybe I should be playing that one instead of this one for this song..."
That’s quite the collection! I won’t ask 😂
I'm poor
Having 1 guitar is fine too!
