Hi Gary - just wanted to say thanks for this video. I did a lot of research and ended up with a similar configuration because of your video. I used the same Jarvis base, with a heavier white MDF lamanite top from Ikea for my top. I already had the top you used on a different desk and needed a bit more space. I was able to use a couple of the pre-drilled contacts in the table top (to really secure it), and non-fluted MRF screws for the rest into the MDF. It worked great and I've been using it for a couple of months now. For anyone else doing this - please make sure to follow the directions in the Jarvis manual and turn the table upright after assembly using the the metal Jarvis base (not the table top) so you don't stress the screws into the MDF. Once you turn it upright, there should be just downward pressure. I am on carpet and have very little shake in mine (none in daily use) when at standing height.
Hi Gary, I eventually replicated your linnmon / fully set up at home. Living in canada, and after shipping and tax, total was $724.50. This was one of the greatest investments i've made for my home office. Owning the setup, I agree with all of your points stated in this vid. My only qualm is that the quality of the Linnmon table is so cheap that my chair swiveling into the corners have already made some dents, but nothing i can't deal with. Thanks again for making this video!
4 years later and this is just the desk I was looking for to match my other furniture and definitely a big help while I am looking to invest in a good sit stand desk and am overwhelmed between all the brand options.
Thanks for this detailed review ! Looking at getting a desk for running ProTools (i see you have a recording studio setup as well), Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desks look TOO good, but after watching your review it looks like they're exactly what I'm looking for.
A great review. Way beyond my budget but I think for a whole family to get optimal use, I can see it's a justifiable investment. Your children are very lucky to have such a caring Dad.
This review and another sold me. I just got mine! It came in the mail yesterday. I'm pairing it with the ikea Karlby kitchen counter top (74inch) today. This was expensive to me, and I wonder how it compares to the smart desk by autonnomous which is a lil cheaper by about $100, however the weight capacity is about 50lbs less.
Gary Cruz hey Gary! Good to hear from you. My set up is coming along just as I had imagined (Surpreme Victory). This desk is awesome! When I first got the kitchen counter top mated to the Jarvis, I just had to try the weight test like you did. Yes, I sat comfortably on my desk while rising from the lowest position all the way up to the top and down again. That elevator ride had no struggle at all. I'm 5'11 200lbs. I took a few pics I wish I could post. wire management is on point too, with a little thanks to the nice space in between the base bridge of the Jarvis. Question, have you found out what the extra port is For? Looks like an Ethernet port. Anyways thanks again brommie
Good to hear your update! M1 and M2 should go to the motors. The H1 Goes to the remote. I hope you have both motors connected? There is an M3 label, but that's only for the larger L desks that use a 3rd motor.
The difference between the uplift and jarvis legs is that they're simply reversed. The telescoping part is just that, telescoping. It has nothing to do with stability, and the thinnest part of the leg is what actually houses the mechanism that supports the desk. The rest of the leg is just cosmetic. But here's one thing about the uplift: Since it's essentially upside down, there is no chance for dust and moisture to fall into and collect in the leg. I'm not sure about the Jarvis, but I do know that the uplifts top is 100% solid bamboo, and it's 30% thicker.
Interesting observation about dust and moisture collection. I'm sure not many thought of that at all. The Jarvis is very tempting and this is a wonderful review, but I guess I should look at the Uplift, too. The top isn't all that important to me.
I was thinking about getting an L-desk variant of something like this. There are lots of extra-cost options you can get and it can be quite expensive, but you can get a tremendous desk for your money. What I have yet to see is someone do a desk setup project on UA-cam to show what a complete sit/stand workstation is like, outfitted with all kinds of accessories (including external filing cabinets on casters, power grommets, computer holder, lamps, etc.) and which options are good and worth the money.
Gary Cruz thanks for making it. I'm in the process of getting a standing desk, I already have the linmon top so all I needed was the legs. Awesome idea. Btw cool motion graphics, love them.
KoOl ciD 21 the desk is good, except the laminate in the front started to peel this month. But my son attaches and detaches a Logitech steering wheel on it every weekend. I’m thinking of replacing it with a wood top.
Hi Lei! Thanks for the comment. I haven't been shopping around for awhile, but we are still using the desk and it's well worth the buy. Glad it was helpful.
Great video, and great idea! I will be purchasing this as it will clearly be better than the ikea bekant sit/stand desk (that i was originally going to get) yet it is the same price! Subscribed!
Hi Quinton! I was in the same boat, thinking about the bekant. But I wasn't too impressed when I visited Ikea. If this top matched my decor, I would have purchased this: m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/art/60274964/ - Thanks for subscribing! I'm going to make an updated video on my cable organization since I've added a few more things on the desk.
Thanks for the feedback! This setup is still solid as you can see in my latest office desk tidy video in my feed. I'd love to hear how it works out for you. Take care!
Is the frame width adjustable or fixed? Also, how is the support in the middle of the desk? It says it supports up to an 82" top and I plan on doing exactly that. Do you think there would be any sagging at 82"?
I saw this review and it has me slightly worried. (They sell their own sit/stand desk so I'm unsure whether or not to trust them.) Have you experienced any wobble? ua-cam.com/video/-x28BQNJt_0/v-deo.html
Treadaway Training I use it standing with a large monitor and other items as seen in my declutter video and don't have issues with wobble. Then again, I don't use it at max height which wouldn't be ergonomic for me.
Excellent review. Would like to hear your take on monitor arm options and PC mounting options. I have two 27" Apple thunderbolt displays, a 34" acer monitor and a MacBook pro I want to mount, as well as a PC box to hang underneath.
StandDesk doesn't require holding down the memory preset, but it's a bit more expensive. Buying from Amazon certainly gets you the Jarvis quicker and also enables some hacks to get it cheaper too. e.g., bitcoin discount via PurseIO, or good rebates via Chase Ink (5x on Amazon GCs @office stores). I'd say you could get the frame down to $400 (and still get the programmable memory set). In my case, I already have a cheap, old Ikea desk that can be sacrificed for it's top. That's darn good. For cheap/quick, it's pretty unbeatable, though "Autonomous" desk might be able to do it. In my case, I went with Stand Desk for a mid-range solution, but if I were going cheaper, I'd do Jarvis; and if I were going higher end, I'd also buy a Jarvis --- except decked out with a RocketMission tabletop (with shelves) and lots of accessories from fully.us
Surprisingly it's still holding up! The laminate on the front edge got loose this year, but I think it's because my son attaches and removes the Logitech steering wheel (constantly).
KH B thanks for the feedback. I'm 5'8" and this desk should be good for you in sitting and standing since the highest point is pretty high for a 6'7" to stand at it (per the website)
Great review, I'm thinking of using the Linnmon as well for a similar build. Do you remembe if you have to take any special precautions drilling through the honeycomb structure? Special screws or anything like that?
You definitely have to be careful where you drill. The areas where the legs would normally go would be the safest. The desk is still ok today surprisingly!
Thanks for taking the time to make a thorough video. Although I'm not going with the standing part yet, I did just snag a few linnmon tops to make a large desk. In reference to the cable management tray (which I really like yours and going to grab a couple), how did you mount it into the desk with the honeycomb area being present?
Thanks for the feedback Justin. I just used screws with large threads. If I was to do it again, I would reinforce with hot glue. Luckily I haven't have any issues.

Thanks for posting this review. How has the Linnmon desk top held up? Is it stable? It's price is really attractive but I'm worried that it won't be very stable/sturdy.
Hi, it's held up pretty well. Been super sturdy (my son even connected a steering wheel to it for his games). Here's what I have on top of it (8min mark): ua-cam.com/video/6PYWYZHlFaE/v-deo.htmlm1s
This is a great video, im considering this kind of setup except i need a top that can hold a 34 inch ultra wide screen monitor using a clamp arm that attaches to the desk. Are you completely satisfied with the jarvis motorised legs?
Did you ever put a PC on it? I have the same 78" wide Linnmon desk and I noticed that over time it will bow down if you put a PC monitor on it. IKEA recommends having a leg support in the center. Will the 78" Linnmon table top bow with the Jarvis legs.
I'm thinking of buying the underframe only SKARATA and purchase another table top for it. My needs is to put 140cm × 50 cm table top. Can the underframe fit this size? If not, is their any trick that I can make to make my dimensions work? Thank you
Gary - great video. I'm a bit concerned about the depth of the Linnmon as a top and hope you can weigh in from experience. I'm planning on an imac and/or monitors on the table. If you were using it in that way do you think the Linnmon's 23" depth would prove too narrow with keyboard etc. Thanks.
excellent review and awesome A/V production! Any experience with attaching a desktop mount to the bottom of your Linnmon? I'm curious how tough the material is at not bowing since its made of particle wood. thanks!
Thank you for the video. Did you ever consider the Autonomous SmartDesk 2? The reason I ask is because I was wondering if there was any reason that turned you off to this suggestion. You can currently get a single motor w/ the table top for ~300 including shipping. I am considering this option, but not sure if there is anything considerably wrong with it.
Hi Gary ! your video review on jarvis is awesome. Can you give me a little bit more infos on the desk stability ? Can you check at standing height at 44-45 inches, does the desk wobble when typing ?
Hey I'm about the buy this desk, after many years, are you still liking it? Anything that buyers need to know? How easy was it to mount to another desk top?
B R Jarvis still running strong. The IKEA desk laminate (around the edges) started peeling. Other than that, the desk has also been holding strong after all these years (no sag surprisingly)
Nice vid... and nice desk... as for mounting video monitor supports... from your experience... does the desk seem stable/sturdy to handle attaching such devices.... thanks. (it's been a year since you posted this... anyway...)
Hi Gary, I wish I saw this review before buying the IKEA Bekant desk. Fortunately I never assembled the desk and am going to return it. At the moment, I am determined to replicate your Jarvis / IKEA Linnmon hybrid desk. What are your thoughts after a year of use? How are the motors of the Jarvis legs performing after a year of use?
Hi J, they are still holding up fine. If you take a look at my latest video, you can see all the added stuff loaded onto it. I love the desk and wish my other desk was the same. I would definitely buy it again.
Hey Gary, I'm thinking of getting the exact same legs and Linnmon top (although probably a smaller size). My understanding is that only the Linnmon's ends are wood and the rest is honeycomb filling. Did you find that you were able to securely screw the legs to the Linnmon top? Also, how's the table doing now after two years? Are both the legs and tabletop still sturdy? Thanks!
Sorry for the late response, I don't get notifications for some reason. As for the top, I wouldn't recommend screwing anything where it isn't reinforced since it's basically cardboard. I used heavy duty velcro to attach a DBX 286s to the bottom of the desk. The desk is still sturdy. I might do an update video on my new gear related channel here: ua-cam.com/channels/y7F4iJbilFoq4pPo1tEHxQ.html
Dara J tabletop is surprisingly ok. The laminate around the front stated to peel only because my son attaches and detaches a Logitech steering wheel every other day. There’s no sag, party because the Jarvis desk has metal that supports the bottom. I will have to replace the desk someday, but maybe in another year or two (with solid wood).
Great review. Thinking of doing the EXACT same thing but I'm hesitant on the Linnmon because of the reasons you described...Paper honeycomb core...Has it been an issue?
@@GaryCruz thanks for the quick response. The only plan for screws is to mount the controls for the automated desk like you did,and a monitor arm mount on the back which is a clamp. Are the edges sturdy enough for a clamp arm mount? 20 lb monitor..
I wanted to like this review... but I'm confused why you didn't do any real testing, like stability at different heights. You did so on the Ikea, briefly, and criticised it, but you didn't show ANY stability tests here. That's probably the most important factor with these desks (next to capacity) and not showing that doesn't give important information to those of us looking to buy one.
Did the linnmon top came with pre-drilled holes ? Or you just take the screws and drill them straight to the desk? I want to make the purchase this week but I'm not sure if that the right way to do it. Thank you.
KH B going string given the fact the boys use it every day for homework and on the weekends, we attach a Logitech steering wheel for them to play Forza Horizon 3
Thanks Laurel - or is it Yanny? hehe - Sorry, I haven't been getting any notifications. I'll be doing more desk gear on my new channel since this channel is now focused on investments and crypto: ua-cam.com/channels/y7F4iJbilFoq4pPo1tEHxQ.html

Thanks for the response. Did you put the legs in pretty much where the pre drilled holes are? Just asking because I cant really tell how wide the wood reinforcements are along the edges

@@williamhayden2492 They have their own motorized legs, but they aren't as good as the Jarvis.
@@GaryCruz noted. This mean the structure is from Jarvis and table top is from IKea.
@@williamhayden2492 Yes, it right in the title of the video and the description. You might want to watch my latest video though: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
Gary Cruz Awesome! Great to hear. Thanks for the super fast response!
See my latest video: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
This is a great video, im considering this kind of setup except i need a top that can hold a 34 inch ultra wide screen monitor using a clamp arm that attaches to the desk.
Are you completely satisfied with the jarvis motorised legs?
I'm still happy with it today! This is an OLD Video too!
Did you ever put a PC on it? I have the same 78" wide Linnmon desk and I noticed that over time it will bow down if you put a PC monitor on it. IKEA recommends having a leg support in the center. Will the 78" Linnmon table top bow with the Jarvis legs.
I have the PC to the side, check out my other desk videos on Gary Cruz Dot Com channel
I'm thinking of buying the underframe only SKARATA and purchase another table top for it. My needs is to put 140cm × 50 cm table top. Can the underframe fit this size? If not, is their any trick that I can make to make my dimensions work? Thank you
What did you end up getting?
Awesome video Gary! How durable is the Ikea desk? Is it scratch resistant?
Sean Cotton hi Sean, thanks for your comment. My two boys use it daily and so far no scratches that I can see. Still very happy with the setup!
2 years later, there are minor scratches. I did get an additional desk: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
Your kids shirt is DOPE.
can you get more BASS out of the microphone
Haha, sorry, I took it to 11
Gary - great video. I'm a bit concerned about the depth of the Linnmon as a top and hope you can weigh in from experience. I'm planning on an imac and/or monitors on the table. If you were using it in that way do you think the Linnmon's 23" depth would prove too narrow with keyboard etc. Thanks.
I have a 27" Asus monitor that has a larger base than the iMac. Keyboard still has plenty of space in front. You should be fine.
My latest desk is 30" - but never had an issue with 23" ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
Reviews on Amazon seem to suggest the table is wobbly when in the stand range of height(s)......
I show some wobble tests in my latest video: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
But do I have to drill holes in the tabletop to actually mount it onto the legs? (Sorry if this is a dumb question I don’t work with furniture a lot)
B1SQ1T no, but it helps if you use a smaller drill bit that the screw to help guide it. No need to go deep.
Gary Cruz so the tabletop comes with holes pre-drilled for mounting everything?
B1SQ1T not for the Jarvis legs. The tabletop in this video is from Ikea. Don’t worry, screwing isn’t hard if you have the right tool.
excellent review and awesome A/V production! Any experience with attaching a desktop mount to the bottom of your Linnmon? I'm curious how tough the material is at not bowing since its made of particle wood. thanks!
I post my other desk reviews on my Gary Cruz Dot Com Channel
Thank you for the video. Did you ever consider the Autonomous SmartDesk 2? The reason I ask is because I was wondering if there was any reason that turned you off to this suggestion. You can currently get a single motor w/ the table top for ~300 including shipping. I am considering this option, but not sure if there is anything considerably wrong with it.
renzo3dr hi, not really since I wanted two motors. Thanks for stopping by!
Here's my latest sit stand desk: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
Hi Gary ! your video review on jarvis is awesome. Can you give me a little bit more infos on the desk stability ? Can you check at standing height at 44-45 inches, does the desk wobble when typing ?
It will wobble more, I did some tests with another desk here at that height: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
Nice review, thank you.
Fred Astaire thanks for taking the time to leave feedback! Did you get a desk yet?
Do you recommend drilling holes in the table top? I saw that it's honeycomb cardboard inside and holes might not be very stabl3
I don’t recommend drilling holes
Hey I'm about the buy this desk, after many years, are you still liking it? Anything that buyers need to know? How easy was it to mount to another desk top?
I still have all my sit stand desk, and they all still work great!
Is it still running, or did it "crap out"? Any updates on it is greatly appreciated.
B R Jarvis still running strong. The IKEA desk laminate (around the edges) started peeling. Other than that, the desk has also been holding strong after all these years (no sag surprisingly)
@@GaryCruz THANK YOU, for the update. 🙏
If one is to shell out $500, it helps to know about the longevity.
Nice vid... and nice desk... as for mounting video monitor supports... from your experience... does the desk seem stable/sturdy to handle attaching such devices.... thanks. (it's been a year since you posted this... anyway...)
Hi Kevin, Check out this video to see the monitor I've attached. It's pretty sturdy to handle two of those. ua-cam.com/video/n7psJ_ttwSQ/v-deo.html

Hi Gary,
I wish I saw this review before buying the IKEA Bekant desk.
Here's an update: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
Excellent review
Hey Gary,
I'm thinking of getting the exact same legs and Linnmon top (although probably a smaller size).
Did you pre-drill any holes before screwing the frame to the table top?
No, the Linmon top is basically honecombed cardboard. It's still holding up though!
@@GaryCruz I've just mine together and the screws are very loose. I'm going to have to get a proper worktop
is the linnmon top sturdy enough to hold 2 mounted monitors?
Yes
Great review!
Thanks Mike! Thinking of getting one?
Yes - I am planning to buy a Jarvis Bamboo Adjustable Standing Desk.
Mike Helmick good choice!
How's the bamboo desk working out? Here's my latest: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
Good video, thanks
How’s the wear and tear on Linmom desk tabletop overtime?
Dara J tabletop is surprisingly ok. The laminate around the front stated to peel only because my son attaches and detaches a Logitech steering wheel every other day. There’s no sag, party because the Jarvis desk has metal that supports the bottom. I will have to replace the desk someday, but maybe in another year or two (with solid wood).
Im about to buy one right nowwww!
How's it working out? I got another one! ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
HI Gary,

with 4 preset options, how do you program sit and stand heights for your entire family?
I just got a sit stand desk to replace my standard desk. My boys only use the desk featured here.
that Linnmon table top with thickness 3.4cm on that jarvis desk frame for 2 years ?
Still going strong!
Great review. Thinking of doing the EXACT same thing but I'm hesitant on the Linnmon because of the reasons you described...Paper honeycomb core...Has it been an issue?
tenknics it hasn’t been an issue, just be aware where you put screws. My son uses a Logitech steering wheel in the middle of the desk with no issues.
@@GaryCruz thanks for the quick response. The only plan for screws is to mount the controls for the automated desk like you did,and a monitor arm mount on the back which is a clamp. Are the edges sturdy enough for a clamp arm mount? 20 lb monitor..
It can Handle the ACER one I have now: ua-cam.com/video/n7psJ_ttwSQ/v-deo.html

I wanted to like this review... but I'm confused why you didn't do any real testing, like stability at different heights. You did so on the Ikea, briefly, and criticised it, but you didn't show ANY stability tests here. That's probably the most important factor with these desks (next to capacity) and not showing that doesn't give important information to those of us looking to buy one.
Thanks for the feedback, how about my latest video? ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
Nice video. Since the Linnmon tops have cardboard cores, did you do anything beyond just screwing the frame on? How is it holding up?
Ted Cybulski holding up fine! Got some minor dents, but normal wear for a desk for a 9 & 7 yr old boys
Ted Cybulski just screwed on. Used the reinforced areas when possible
Still working great! See updates here: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
thanks for this review great work!

Great video! :)
Logan Curtin glad it was helpful!
nice review and amazing dad
Can I ask how did you screw into the table top even though it is honeycomb inside?
Keep it close to where the OG legs would go
Did the linnmon top came with pre-drilled holes ? Or you just take the screws and drill them straight to the desk? I want to make the purchase this week but I'm not sure if that the right way to do it.
Thank you.
The linnmon top comes with pre-drilled holes for the IKEA legs. I just made new ones or the Jarvis legs.
oh i see. when you say you made new ones for the jarvis legs. it means you used some special tool or you just drilled them straight to the ikea top?
I drilled right in using what you saw in the video.
Gary Cruz thank you so much.
How's the desk holding up you so far?
KH B going string given the fact the boys use it every day for homework and on the weekends, we attach a Logitech steering wheel for them to play Forza Horizon 3
Nice video man. How did you attach the Table top to the Jarvis stand?
Thanks, with the included screws
So the table top u bought from IKEA have holes aligned with the Standing DEsk stand?
No, I just screwed the legs right in.
This one has even quicker setup: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
Did you screw the legs into the Linnmon straight in? Or did you have to pre-drill holes

Hi Gary, Amazing review. Could you tell me the weight and dimension of Jarvis Desk Legs package. I am planing to import it from USA and would like to know these details for ships.
Thanks in Advance!!
According to Amazon: Item Weight: 65 pounds
Package Dimensions: 44 x 10.7 x 10.2 inches
pneumatic adjustable desks are much faster than electric/crank, but you need a little strength i guess, not for kids
The end of my latest video has some footage from my pneumatic desk at work: ua-cam.com/video/Smnt9ddmvFU/v-deo.html
what is the size of this desk ?
Can the control pannel fit within the two metal frames?
Great Video - !!
did you say it travels at 2.5" per second? I can't find it in ur video.
element74 it’s been awhile since I posted this. But this desk is still working great!
Do you think the material is strong enough to mount an under desk cpu holder?
For the Ikea desk, it would probably have to be near the reinforcement sections between the particle honeycomb.
Thanks for the response. Did you put the legs in pretty much where the pre drilled holes are? Just asking because I cant really tell how wide the wood reinforcements are along the edges
Hi Neel, Yes, I put them in the ball park area. Since the holes are where the reinforcements are.
Thanks Gary! I purchased nearly the same setup based off this video, just with 47inch top! Cheers!
Congrats! The boys still use the desk a lot as you can see in my desk cleanup video on my channel, we've added a few more things to it.
