Thanks for speaking the truth so clearly. I wish all cardiologists would understand this. I have fired mine as it is not my job to educate him. My 40-year-old nephew is a very active athlete; in perfect shape. His cholesterol is slightly higher than our doctor would like (although all his family members have "high cholesterol"). The doctor prescribed Lipitor. We're getting a new doctor.
Hey I have a similar thing. My grandmother had super high cholesterol and lived well into her 80s (very active - farm living). Mom has high cholesterol and smoked and had strokes at 75. (active but city living may have had a toll) Im that guy that made a mix a good and poor choices but steadily moved to better eating and exercise at a young age. My sisters have high cholesterol, smoke, and have high BMI. I feel like Im going to hold off on statins and revamp the diet a little. Apparently the *real* problem may be high sugar causing glycated end products which induce inflammation and then plaque. One of my sisters has started low sugar and it has immediately improved how she feels. Consider a MD nutritionist.
I've been very sceptical about statins for some 20 years. I was prescribed statins last year and flatly refused to take them. To satisfy my doctor who gave me a choice of taking statins or seeing the Lipids consultant, I chose the latter. It was disappointing that he also wanted to put me on statins and I refused. He then gave me 4 months to work on lowering my LDL by 1 point (UK measurement). This was when I learnt about the Ketogenic diet and have been on low/no carbs since. I had my blood test 10 days ago and am now waiting to see the consultant again. I don't believe that my cholesterol levels have changed much, other than perhaps the Triglycerides, but when I see him, I intend to be armed with lots of information I have learnt about the benefits of cholesterol and that it's not saturated fat but sugar that's the villain. Thank you for all the information you put out here. I have shared your video.

I have been taking statins 80mg for 9 months and now have all what you have said. I have now stopped taking them and will not be going back on statins again.
But know that there are SO many strategies you can adopt, Jay, that have huge effects on reducing/eliminating cardiovascular. My interventional cardiology practice went from many procedures every day to virtually zero doing this.

I recommend looking up the channel Biohacker Summit, they have 2.5hrs webinar that give thorough info on this topic. They condensed the info into sn ebook on their website too. One of the important point that pointed out is fixing the gut lining which is crucial for immunity, with bone broth, collagen or l-glutamine. There are various herbs that may help like st John's wort, selfheal, and elderberry.
I have consistently refused statin drug prescriptions. Now my triglycerides and LDL aren't as high as they used to be. Statin drugs are the wrong solution anyway.
1) Muscle damage rare but possible, 2) Type 2 diabetes risk 30-50%, 3) tendon ruptures, 4) Occasionally ocurring irreversible cognitive impairment, 5) Benefits are far less than advertised.
I was put on Stain by my heart doctor. The drug right after my by-pass surgery & got so much pain ...I decided to drop it entirely, an felt significantly better in just a few weeks & never looked back. It was the best thing I ever did. The surgery worked but the satin drug daily routine did not!
My Dr said your body makes cholesterol and that mine was just making more then usual, I’ve been off of any of it for years. 20 years and I’ve been fine.
I'm 52 and I have been taking a statin for 14 years. I find that my arms and legs are weaker, and me shoulders hurts often. If I were to stop taking the statin, would these symptoms go away? I'm on a Keto and Intermittent Diet for the last 4 months and I exercise 5 days a week. I"m healthier than ever, but my LDL is higher now and my doctor want's to increase my statin. I needed a stent when I was 39 year old, and started on a statin, and 3 years later I had another clogged artery. Then, shortly after that, I had a huge stomach ulcer due to all the meds including the aspirin. Shortly after this, I became type 2 diabetic. I want to stop taking my statin. I take Atorvastatin (Lipitor) 40 mg once daily.
When you ask the question in this way online, usually doctors will shy away from giving a direct answer as it is a doctor-patient relationship and open up to legal liability. Basically the FDA and medical authority only want doctors to repeat what they deem is allowable. There used to be a lot of info on the harms of statin, but Google and UA-cam censor much of that info and you won't find it on their platform. This is something I don't think your doctor will give you a truthful answer unless it's a functional medicine doctor. You have to do your own research. I recommend looking up the study: PMC2849981 Statin Adverse Effects - A Review of the Literature and Evidence for a Mitochondrial Mechanism. It has 900 citations and a table that categorize all the adverse effects of statin. If you are particularly skeptical, check table 7 which are all based on random controlled trials. There are studies that say statin is beneficial for Alzheimer's and there is a lack of evidence for adverse effects, I would be very skeptical of the authors and funding of these studies. My father who took statin for years and has diabetes, no doubt the statin contributes to the diabetes, lost high eye sight, lost his muscle, can't walk on his own, remember anything, is now in late stage dementia and basically a vegetable. Statin isn't the only cause, but it is no doubt one of the biggest contributor to his worsen health based on the evidence. LDL is actually crucial for health, it is the oxidization of them that is causing problem. Removing sugar, removing vegetable oils, and reducing inflammation are the big ones to reduce lipid oxidation, along with good all around nutrition. Eating a low fat, high sugar diet is going to be counter productive, which is what your doctor is telling you to do to "reduce cholesterol", which is also counter productive in itself. It is better to reduce carb and sugar to lower triglyceride, c-reactive protein and HbA1c.
The muscle aches usually reverse after several days to weeks off the statin. However, it sounds like nobody has identified the actual cause of your coronary disease, Paul. This is a crucial step to take.

Without knowing my level of soft plaque or inflammation my cardiologist tried to sell me statins, I told her if she prescribed colchicine I would take both. I don't plan on picking up the statins from the pharmacy.
Statins reminds me about Diesel gate. Like anyone who bought a diesel would defend thier loyality and blindly claim confidence to VW. Doctors that have prescibed statins 1000 times, would not listen to facts, but go on prescribing statins, and never listen to this honest Doctor. But its me choosing, which profet I want to follow. I dont do statins anymore.
But 1 out of 2 DOES equate to 50 out of 100, hence a 50% reduction in both cases. It may be deceptively *implying* a greater benefit than actually experienced, but nonetheless is true.
Yeah, people hear that 50% reduction in risk and think that means they have half the risk when they take the statin when there is actually hardly any change in risk. If your risk goes from 2 in one billion to 1 in one billion, that is a 50% reduction in risk. At the same time, your risk went from essentially zero to essentially zero - no change. If statins cut everyone's risk in half, people would line up to take 'em. As Dr. Davis noted, statins do apparently cut risk a little bit (nowhere near 50%) post first heart attack (apparently due to an anti-inflammatory effect) which is the only reason I take a statin. Now, I know someone who doesn't get it is going to say I"m wrong in 5.4.3.2.1.... So let me try to explain it a bit further. Two scenarios, both a 50% reduction in risk: A) 100 of 100 people NOT ON statins have heart attack. 50 of 100 people ON statins have heart attack. 50% risk reduction. Statins take you from certain heart attack to a shot at no heart attack. B) 2 of 100 people NOT ON statins have heart attack. 1 of 100 people ON statins have heart attack. 50% risk reduction. Statins take you from a tiny chance of a heart attack to a tiny chance of a heart attack. So, when people hear '50% reduction in risk' they naturally think along the lines of scenario A, a very meaningful difference. But the reality of statins is more like scenario B, not a very meaningful difference at all, especially considering side effects... Get it?
Dr. Davis, Have you previously given an opinion on statins after CABP surgery? On many boards (i.e. Inspire) folks are dropping statins with no problems.
Hi Doctor Davis this is Donna lovas , you treat Dale , how can i get your book is it at the book store by mayfair . do you take patence with Afib cauese i have that.
I’ve been on statins for about 10 years because I was diagnosed with hypercholesterolaemia this video has put me off taking them, are they really not doing what my doctor said they’d do are they wrecking my body do I stop taking them? So confused 😢
Cholesterol is in your entire circulatory system. Why is there clogging of the ARTERIES close to the heart and not in the veins or capillaries in your nose, ear or knee? This is because the pumping of the heart can cause hairline cracks. Blood pressure is highest in this area. These hairline cracks are repaired by a sticky substance LP(a), to prevent from getting worse. Why don't animals have cardiovascular disease? Almost all animals produce large amounts of vitamin C in their liver. On average 35 mg/kg body weight. So we have to take at least about 3000 mg of vitamin C ourselves because humans cannot make vitamin C. You get strong collagen tissue, strong connective tissue, strong arteries. Hairline cracks no longer form and arterial plaque is removed and burned in the liver. Repair with cholesterol is therefore a consequence of a deficiency of vitamin C. So do not take statins, but vitamin C in a high dose: at least 3 grams, better: 6 to 10 grams Source: Cardiovascular disease and vitamin C (Dr. Rath Foundation)
Thank you, my doctor hates me because I won't take his BS pills. I tried 12yrs ago and suffered shocking symtoms including pain in the chest and I had to undergo more BS tests. Since stopping(the BS pills) I feel so good and no more pain in the chest.
The same doctor who was refusing to test my A1C to reduce expenses because he thought I was cured of diabetes (idiot - willing to put me though a GTT to prove his point) was suggesting I take a statin drug even though my lipids are fine, stating that statins are always protective and preferred over a CAC score, which he claims has too much radiation risk. I know. It's tough for a sane person to take all that in at once without beating your head against a wall to try and clear it from your mind, but this is what we have in good old Canada. The Canadian health care card. Leave home without it.
@@WilliamDavisMDThanks Dr. Davis. What is more terrifying is that he's been my doctor for 25 years. I never saw the light until I was diagnosed with diabetes and started reading wonderful books like yours and others, which resulted in reversing my diabetes numbers to an A1C of 4.9%. So his faults didn't become apparent until I educated myself and now those faults are so glaring I must look for another doctor at age 69. Pretty tough, but necessary and not easy in Canada where we have a shortage. Without any exaggeration, my dog has better health care. All the best to you.
Such an informative video, but trying to sort out what I confidently thought I knew vs what my doctor says. I started Lipitor 20mg two weeks ago out of uncertainty and fear from what I heard from my internal med doc, it was a devastating blow overall...i felt like a walking time bomb that could go off at any point..but I'm really concerned that I'm doing more harm instead of preventing a possible heart attack/stroke. I'm a nearly 67 yo female, started keto (no added fats) a couple of years ago after CAC score of 136. Lost 40 pounds and in normal weight range now, exercise 3-5 times weekly, controlled HBP since middle age, strong family history of heart attack & issues, ate 2 meals a day albeit my breakfast every day was only 8-10 slices of bacon (too much?), lipid testing in Nov '19 showed HDL 74 (increased 30 pt), trig 68 (decreased 20pt) LDL 144 (increased), cholesterol value 232 with cholesterols ratio 3:1 (lowered). I was working & hoping to lower my 2017 CAC score of 136 so I had another done Feb 2020 to prove I had. The new score came back as 286! Cant figure out what I did or am doing wrong. Doctor started statin and recommended a plant based diet, of which both repel me. I know there are a lot of details here, not sure how to proceed. I don't want to have heart attack/stroke or to die. Just unsure of how to proceed. I felt in control of my health previously, not so much now. Also I used to feel strong inside, but now not so sure cause I don't know how to proceed. Could you give any insight to my situation or direction to think about? Thanks in advance.
Your efforts cannot end at diet, as your coronary plaque will continue to grow. You must address the several nutrients deficiencies and dysbiosis that drive coronary plaque growth. I am presenting a 3-part Workshop on heart scans starting Wednesday, March 11th on my Undoctored Inner Circle membership website. But my Wheat Belly and Undoctored programs are based on efforts to stop the progression of coronary calcium scores.
About 10 yrs. ago I had a doctor throw me out of his office, when I said no, I wouldn't take statins (had done so 10 yrs. earlier & got bad muscle cramps in my calves, which made me stop). My Dad had severe heart disease (2 bypasses, 12 yrs apart) & I saw the muscle wasting yrs. of Statins did to him & the resulting weight loss.
Two scenarios, both a 50% reduction in risk:
A) 100 of 100 people NOT ON statins have heart attack.
Get it?
@@UA-camr-ep5xx I was just prescribed statin, trying to figure this out. Your input is greatly appreciated!
Dr. Davis, Have you previously given an opinion on statins after CABP surgery? On many boards (i.e. Inspire) folks are dropping statins with no problems.
Once you identify the real causes of heart disease, Dave, you will quickly see how anemic statin drugs are and how little they actually accomplish.
Hi Dr. davis. What about cases with FH (Tc=320, ldl 250) and atherosclerosis. Then ????
Hi Doctor Davis this is Donna lovas , you treat Dale , how can i get your book is it at the book store by mayfair . do you take patence with Afib cauese i have that.
Hey, Donna! Yes, at all bookstores. And, no, I don't maintain an office any more. I like to say that I do more honest work now!
I’ve been taking Statin for years and I had zero negative symptoms.
I’ve been on statins for about 10 years because I was diagnosed with hypercholesterolaemia this video has put me off taking them, are they really not doing what my doctor said they’d do are they wrecking my body do I stop taking them? So confused 😢
The first one - never and ever take Statines. The second one - Statine never work.
Dr Davis, Is there any medical case when you would prescribe a statin drug?
Yes: non-compliance with strategies that actually do reduce or eliminate risk for heart disease, Ted.
So do not take statins, but vitamin C in a high dose: at least 3 grams, better: 6 to 10 grams

2400 what would you do for a person at this score?
The program is the same regardless of score, Scott.
What about beer, think of me like Archie Bunker, several beers a night guy. If I wont give up the beer am I better off or on statin?
Oh, wow, Ricky: the depth of ignorance of some people posing as health experts is terrifying.
All the best to you.
if you think doctors your colleques are tricking people and playing with the patients lives then why never thought about filing a case against them
Such an informative video, but trying to sort out what I confidently thought I knew vs what my doctor says.
Calcium score what is that?
I not take any more statens
Wish you had known.
I had to get off all of it. I just can’t take it. My cholesterol and it’s all are really high 😳. My Dr. having a fit because I won’t take any staton
Also heard /read Statins can predispose women to Diabetes, so NO THANKS!!
My mom took Crestor for decades, and now she's suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy - a rare and progressive neuromuscular disease. End stage.
Oigh I have taken it as well.. now what do I do?
@@arlenepospisil586first, don’t be afraid. Stress brings on all kinds of neurological issues. I would check a few symptoms. Do gave balance issues? Are you able to walk okay?
Hi Dr. Davis. I was 80 lbs overweight. I'm not down 40lbs. 40 to go. I'm on 40mg Atorvastatin a day. How can I safely wean off this. I've been on it for about 8+ years. My last cholesterol numbers were excellent.
Get off the statin asap and keep losing weight. Dr will tell you to exercise but guess what, exercising while on statins will only hasten the damage they do. I know this from personal experience.
PORRIDGE EVERY DAY NO NEED FOR STATINS.
I'm on that
Is it possible to cause hernias
Not to my knowledge, Boomer.
@dr Davis, is it possible that statins(atorvastatin) can cause hemorrhoids? I’ve been suffering for the last 10 years+ ever since I started using statins, I stop 1 weeks ago and I don’t want to ginxit
After all of my study I would NEVER take a statin drug. My doctor pushes them without even understanding types of cholesterol. I run over 7 miles a day, I eat organic and yet still have high cholesterol. I had high cholesterol when I was 48 years old and I started taking lecithin and my cholesterol went to normal. Now I am 67 and the high cholesterol is back. So, I started taking lecithin a month ago. Hopefully that will lower it again.
The proof is in the comments.
It's interesting how you talk about not believing the statin's industry-sponsored research and yet you like your viewers to buy your book.!!
Doctor, so what would you recommend to lower LDL?
