One of the few unique & truly interesting races in the D&D franchise. Up there with Beholders in terms of creativity. They where by far the most memorable enemy in the Neverwinter Nights expansion Hordes of The Underdark. Looking forward to experience the full story with these in BG3.
Just wanted to say, I've watched pretty much all of your videos and you do a fantastic job. I've been around DnD since v3.5, but getting a refresher on 5 and all of the lore/history has been awesome. Your content is definitely appreciated!
Always thought the mind flayers were interesting monsters and been curious about how they live as a society. I was so excited when I found out that they were taking center stage in this game! Especially the dynamic of being implanted by them! Didn't know alot of this stuff :) great video! 👌
The ultimate creepy evil villain! That one mindflayer in EA who the party asks for help must've broken away. After watching only a few of your lore videos I realized the opening scene had quite a bit in it. Gonna watch it again after I see as many lore vids as possible.... cool! Much appreciated!
Just one comment near the end: The Mindflayer Arcanist is considered a freak, mutant, and dangerous abberant in Mindflayer society. Magic is looked down upon as vastly inferior to psionics, and any mindflayer who would pursue such is considered a defect. If we see something like that, they may or may not be an ally, or at least something we could leverage against the main enemy. I really hope Larian Studios includes tid-bits like that.
Damn, the Mind Flayer stats are fearsome offensively ! But looks like a single one can relatively "quickly" be killed (you know, do 70 damage as a party versus AC15). In BG2, you really *had* to kill them fast before they reached you in melee, as they drained 5 Intelligence points per attack!!! They were the scourge of Minsc and Boo (except when he Raged I think).
It will be interesting to see if Larian actually follows the Monster Manual Mind Flayer. The Mind Flayers seem to be such an important part of the game, maybe Larian will buff them or even add new abilities.
@@WolfheartFPS Other option is they will be fearsome things you never actually fight in combat, but only defeat by the quests or special actions you accomplish, but... since it is D&D, I think you are right that we will most probably fight many types of them!
@@WolfheartFPS I have to believe this will be a vehicle to update and expand on it given it's as good a vehicle as will likely ever exist to expand on them and us turning into one as the game progresses and gaining powers from that probably a bit like the watcher in poe if I was to speculate.
Thanks!!! I started a much more recent lore series. Not sure if you have seen any of that content yet, but its much better than my old stuff. Here's a link to the playlist! - ua-cam.com/play/PL2C80dpweBO8Z0zyTM03eIJC9k2_7uVQN.html
Old video but the Gith remind me of the Ur Quan from the Star Control games. Both of them were mentally dominated and rose up to kill their oppressors. Both of them experienced an ideological schism that split the race in two. Both of them circled the galaxy and met up on the other side to murder... Oh wait that's just the Ur Quan.
Mindflayers don't see themselves as bad guys. To them, the world is chaos and they're bringing the "gift" of order by making what they deem as inferior species all fall in line. They also actually take really good care of thier slaves in general, and believe they are legitimately doing them a favor. Most mindflayers even end up with favorites amoung their slaves and get really attached to them like pets. They'll mourn the loss of their favorites
The Natuloid ship the *Mind Flayers* travel with remind me of the aliens from *War Of The Worlds* by the way grab people with their tentacle and they turn to like ash
You may want to change the sound loop for the fire and crickets. It’s short enough to sound very repetitive and I found myself unable to focus on what you were saying
I'm pretty sure a typical mindflayer is about the same size as a human. The 7ft and 8ft mindflayers are considered to be special and treated as demigods and not commonly seen by anyone outside of mindflayer society
It just wants to be friends, they are even initiating to protagonists into their club. Mind flayers are friends, the whole eating of brains is just them being interested in the real you, and how tasty your brain is. C'mon us nerds have always wanted to be wanted for our brains. This ad brought to you by the GOP.
Considering the personality we create at the start of the game would become fairly pointless, and we would just turn into a brain-guzzling murderer - it's not likely. That said, creative devs can always find ways around obstacles like that. We may come upon a special item or magic that allows us to transform between flayer and regular humanoid form, or otherwise subdues the negative effects of being a mind flayer and allow us greater free will and the potential for a differing sense of morality than that of other illithids. Or turning into a mind flayer could be a 'bad ending' or a failure state triggered by not removing it in time. Lots of possibilities, but they'd have to get very creative to allow people to play as them in this storyline without breaking lore or having to create entire droves of separate content that regular non-mind-flayer characters wouldn't have access to.
@@WolfheartFPS 😂 I felt the same but just know you’ve made the perfect, informative, relaxing BG3 lore videos to watch and fall asleep to. The fire is jarring in that context only. Great work.

i remember in baldrur's gate 2 the best way for me to kill the mind flayers was to summon skeletons that were immune to their attacks

Githyanki or Githzerai warrior Eldritch Knight with a Silver Weapon !!!! Riding a Red Dragon !!!
no mounts in this game bruh
I totally hope someone makes a mod or modual that has a mindflayer protagonist.
Just started playing Baldur's gate 3 and hoping I can leave the worm in my head so I can become one lol
look on the nexus you can play as one rn lol
Actually turning into one would be quite the experience
Did not know the lore of the Duergar : respect for their self-liberation (!), though you don't want to encounter them as such.
Wooow, you got me into this universe from mildly interested to hooked AF in about 9 minutes. Now I'm hyped for your lore content.

3:46 that is a Aboleth
See Mind Flayer, kill it with heavy fire spell.
Mind Flayers are like something out of Lovecraft
Wellllll look at them they look like Cthulhu but just in human size
The inspiration is pretty clear indeed
Lol... because they literally are.
Did you just critically fail a Wisdom check?
@@pilotmorgan8669Hey! He’s allowed to have some wonder about all this all he likes!
Would be interesting if they included a redeemed/Change of heart mind flayer as a playable race with a unique skill paths in psionics in a DLC
cant wait to play as the githyanki!!!
this describes real world humans perfectly.
looking forward to playing an illithid player character! ♥️

Great lore as always wonderful story now I know what I am up against Thanks Wolf
ty for this lore videos i just started playing baldurs gate 3 and i feel the lore is pretty deep and amazing story
I hope they put in more than just mind flayers and tadpoles. Anybody remember the Neothelids? Those would be an interesting introduction 🙃
Good video. I'm really excited about bg3. Hopes are high
Thanks. Same!
WolfHeartFPS giving anyone else Coyote Peterson of D&D vibes? Lol I dig it! “Join me as we enter… the Flay Zone. Here we go!”
I friggin love these history vids Tankz
I am ALMOST ready to purchase this game.
You really should
It seems a tiefling paladin/warlock is going to be pulled in several different directions in this game.
So glad i found this channel. keep killing it!
thanks john!
Fallout has this brain thing as well as movies like falling skies as host.
Great content, well presented, entertaining and informative.

WolfheartFPS...Awesome dude, been waiting for this one
thanks Jam
I wonder what it would be like if you give into and obey the mind flayer
Yes. Humans have long ears so they were probably humans. Makes sense.

just cast a wand of cloudkill and close the door

Awesome video man.
Thanks Kyle
Spooky to say the least. I can’t really think of a scarier creature for a player, Maybe a beholder.
You know your a special kind of asshole if your worst then demons and devils
What book did you pull that mind flayer info from?
Sooo.. they're the Cthulu race
Please do more narrated slideshows long ones

Great videos though 🤗
I have to work on my “Al”s hahah for some reason I developed my own accent . Thanks for watching

I wonder if we play as a mind flayer
Maybe in evil route

No, not yet.
I wish I was a mind flayers *hic*
I would have ruled the world * hic*
But srsly, I hope bg3 will allow us to be mind flayers
What are the Ulitharid stats?
So are you enjoying the game? Your review was kinda like … yeah it’s good but…”
"The MInd flayers are sucksless" xD
Mindflayer must consume 1 inteligent brain in month. In 2020 anticovid riots, mindflayers died of starvation.
Is all this lore from the D&D monster book?
The Mind Flayer statistics are from the monster book. The lore is mostly from reading books and reading articles.

Damn mind flayers sound like the democrat party
THEY ARE CLOWNS
Cause the average Republican is too stupid to be considered an intelligent mind?
Designed after the octopus, is really well done. If know much about octopus, extremely smart, strong, fast , change Color, grow back limbs and more
