the thing I love about mastodon is that every one has completely different opinions about them. they're not just like Metallica where everyone loves the old and hates the new. I'm pretty sure I've heard every one of their albums called the best in their discography while also calling everything else not as good. I love all mastodons music. the diversity in how their perceived goes to show you how intricate of a group they can be.

This is their best album imo. Its so powerful man. I also like their newer stuff but they made some amazing sludge. I wish they'd make another alhum like this.

I heard about Mastodon a little after their Hunter days and then Once More came out..and I really got into them. Going back album through album I fell in love with them because they are so diverse.

Leviathan will always be their best to me. I started listening around 2005 and even after Remission, the concept and ambient ocean vibe had me in love forever.

Main reason I watch this is TBDM, haha. Trevor always trying to give constructive opinion while Brian just sits there, stoned af.

Probably Mastodon's 2nd best album after (obviously) Leviathan. I like their prog stuff, but this aggressive prog sludge is really unique and intoxicating.

Leviathan > Blood Mountain > Crack the Skye > Remission imo

Emperor of Sand>Crack the Skye>Leviathan. Before I get torched, I think the Hunter is their weakest offering, but I also believe the Hunter is still an 8/10 album. Picking Mastodon albums is more about picking one for your current mood rather than which is better. Frothing at the mouth for Hushed and Grim. 🤘🏼

Their first 4 full lengths are definitely their best material. It's so hard to choose my top album overall, as my favorite tends to rotate with time. I would generally choose Leviathan, but Crack the Skye is so fucking epic!

I had a Today is the Day album with Brann on drums and Bill on bass. I loved the work they did on that album which piqued my interest. When I initially heard Remission I loved the drumming but thought the guitar work was just ok, nothing really special. Over time my appreciation grew exponentially. It’s still one of my favorites by this band…

Love this album. Mother puncher to me is the strongest track. Remission is the most primal mastodon has ever been. They have easily became my favorite band after just stumbling upon the song oblivion on UA-cam one day. I'd heard of them and kinda always dismissed them as a by the numbers metal band because of the name and look of the guys. Little did I know that they were the band that would reinvigorate my love of metal. I listened to that entire ep then went on an odyssey of discovery and listened to all of their stuff. I love how diverse they are musically. They have in my opinion two of the best musicians in music today in brann dailor and Brent hinds. Brann is a huge sounding drummer whose playing seems like it's coming from a giant kit, but turns out it's the most basic you'll see out there. Brent is one of the most original sounding guitar players out there. No one has such a blend of style and composition. He's a fantastic song writer and one of the most creative soloists out there. Every album is musical dynamite. Metal heads will argue all day about how they're not metal anymore. Or how they've sold out. They just write music. They're not trying to attach themselves to a genre. That's the most refreshing thing about their music. They don't give a fuck what you think about it. They'll always have the respect of fellow musicians because of the talent and brains behind what they put out.

I remember the day I heard Mother Puncher, I immediately stopped trying to play AC/DC, bought a HM-2 pedal from BOSS, and never looked back

An awesome record which helped to reinvigorate the metal scene because at the time a lot of popular metal was lame butt rock like Godsmack and Disturbed so to hear such an aggressive and heavy new band was so refreshing.
The playing on this album is tighter than a dolphins asshole.
