Then, we were forced to use our personal Google account for video conferencing. We've been missing a lot of great Google Meet features. Those updates are extremely useful for us, teachers. We need it badly.
Very useful information and I love your setup. You very effectively transition between the full view and the screen view, making the details on the screen visible while at the same time keeping the presentation personal and entertaining. Great job!

Very helpful video John. Thank you. Question about "Host Controls". It has been my experience that the teacher who gets host controls is the one who clicks the Google Meet link in Classroom first, not necessarily the one who creates (or resets) the link, like you mentioned in the video. That means that even if you are the first teacher to click the link and enter the "lobby" you still have the host controls, even if you don't go into the Meet. In order for another teacher to get the Host controls, the meeting code needs to be reset. Have you found that?

With Nod, the hand raise function works great, the problem, though, is that anyone (including other students) can dismiss the hand raise and that's when the teacher may miss.

BO Rooms -- When I "Close All Rooms" my students can STAY in the rooms -- Is there a setting change I need to make? This is super annoying and they think it is super funny! BO Rooms -- Most of my students leave GM open all day. I had a same issue. It was there for a few days and disappeared while my colleagues had the feature on. I’ve done everything I could to figure out the problem. Anyways, the feature just reappeared somehow after about a month. I concluded it might due to the glitches from the system. I hope it will appear soon for you!! I was so frustrated.
I have noticed that when students leave/re-enter a meet and are absent for a portion (sometimes a large portion) of the meet, the attendance log I receive does not reflect that. It only tells the time they first entered and the time they last left. Is there any way to see the actual amount of time they were in the meet and the number of times this occurred or when they left and re-entered?
Sir,The task bar of google meet swipe down and hide usually when curser don't moves. But In my case the bar stucks all time and cover a part of screen.please tell me how I can resolve the problem.
Unfortunately no. You can mute them but you cannot prevent them from unmuting themselves. For younger students I recommend using the push to talk Chrome extension. This will turn your spacebar into a mute button.
We are having issues where someone other than the teacher (who is the one who created the Google Classroom Meet link) is getting host controls. Any ideas on this one. It is usually another adult account. An instructional aide or sign language interpreter.
This is a big problem. The best thing to do is to reset the link right before you open it up to students. This will ensure that you are the meeting creator and therefore the host. Google definitely needs to do some work on their end to make the meeting host controls more reliable.
Do you know if there's a way to see 30+ students while presenting? I have loaded Dualless and I know how to separate screens and I know how to increase the number of participants viewed by increasing the tiles., That great big "You are presesenting" portion of the window still squeezes any number of kids higher than 16 out where I cannot see them and therefore cannot call on them. For this reason alone, I am going to have to switch to Zoom.

Pls is it possible one gets the moderator control for business starter workplace (G suite)
I'm not sure which additions include premium Google meet support. I have a feeling that it may not be included in the starter edition.
@@jrsowash Thanks
Can you or someone else explain how to switch to another language you want to translate when using the GOOGLE MEET in the cellular ? ( it was easy to do this in the laptop )
I'm not sure. I have never tried.
My school has Enterprise education and I had the activity button last week. Now it's not there. Any idea why? My colleagues have it.
How are you creating your Google Meet link? Only the meeting host will have the moderator controls.
I had a same issue. It was there for a few days and disappeared while my colleagues had the feature on. I’ve done everything I could to figure out the problem. Anyways, the feature just reappeared somehow after about a month. I concluded it might due to the glitches from the system. I hope it will appear soon for you!! I was so frustrated.
i dont have the options which u said . how to upgrade google meet
Your school districts would need to upgrade your account
I have a google suite account but only have the background blur option. There is no option to change my background. How do we do this?
It showed up for me today! it will appear eventually!
That's a good question. I'll have to do some research to figure that out. 👍
Can I create breakout rooms without assigning students - can they enter on their own?
Sadly no, you must assign them
is there a way to call into a Meet when video-ing isn't possible?
Yes! If you click meeting details in the bottom left corner of your meet session you will find the dial in number.
Sir,The task bar of google meet swipe down and hide usually when curser don't moves. But In my case the bar stucks all time and cover a part of screen.please tell me how I can resolve the problem.
Is your chrome window maximized?
@@jrsowash no.
Hi! May I know why I'm not seeing the option for breakout rooms in Google Meet?
Do you have the Enterprise version of g suite? Breakout rooms are not available for Gmail accounts or the regular version of g suite for education.
Favorite is Breakout rooms
I have no google meet background
Are you on a mobile device?
@@jrsowash no. I use my laptop
Can I as the teacher mute all my students and prevent them from unmuting themselves?
@@jrsowash so it's not just us? That is frustrating, but good to know.
Since Meet offers anonymous telephone call in, it would be desirable to talk or chat with waiting room, to avoid unidentified guest in
Yes, the call-in feature can be problematic in a school setting. Your IT admin can disable this feature to eliminate issues.
I would recommend using the grid view chrome extension. It will automatically resize the thumbnails to make sure that everyone fits on the screen.
@@jrsowash Thank you! I will try that!
is possible 2 background blur on android ?
Not yet. I believe that is scheduled to be a future release
I have change background for Meet on my Mac
Yes, I've heard a few people have it. It hasn't hit any of my accounts yet.
Who is the meeting owner if everyone with a same domain connects to a session trough the meets icon in classroom under the tab classworks?
Good question.
Based on my testing, it is the person who created or reset the link.
I don't see the breakout room icon up next to the chat, people area of my google meet. Someone help!!! Activities tab??? Is it just for G suite enterprising account users? or is it free?
Breakout rooms require an enterprise subscription.
@@jrsowash Thank you..Great helpful videos for us teachers in this distant learning world.
I am that person who created the link through Classroom, vbut I most of the time, I do not get the controls
It sounds like your IT admin needs to change your meet settings.
This video should help: ua-cam.com/video/cGBO07I0arQ/v-deo.html
Which are available for free google account
When I mute all my students, I have one who keeps unmuting themselves. Is there a way to stop this ?
No, unfortunately. You may need to remove them from the meeting if they are unable to follow the instructions.
@@jrsowash ok thanks but a new feature change backround has also been added
I do not have it
Are you using a g suite account?
i attctually dont have blur
MY phone is android version 4.4.2
I news google meet
