Roxy Music was a 70's band with their own unique sound.

Late 80s? Roxy was ahead of it's time ... this song came out in 1982, and no, their songs don't all sound like this.

I think, 𝙍𝙤𝙭𝙮 𝙈𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙘 would be considered 1980's "New Wave." - synthesizers became a forefront instrument.

Roxy music is a glam rock band. They broke up in 1982. This song was made in late 1981 and released in 1982. New romantic style started in roughly 1979. New wave in like 1981/82. So they already made their last album by the time new wave had started to catch up. This last album of theirs used a little.mroe keyboard for melodies but that was just of the time. Most new new wave bands used drum machines. Roxy music was fully a band. See their last live show in France 1982. Some videos on you tube. New wave was more depeche mode, duran duran, talk talk, flock of seagulls etc

@@rediscoveryrecords1348 Okay, although, "More Than This" sounds a bit new wave, and it is considered on of their genres.

@@R777-RLM if you read wikipedia it has a good explanation even. It says Roxy Music encouraged the model of a new wave band. Model meaning the overall look or appearance. If you asked 100 fans of new wave in the 1980s I'm gonna guess less than a couple out of 100 would name Roxy Music if they named their top 10 new wave bands.
Roxy music doesnt have enough of a synthetic or dance sound. Roxy is a full on band with a keyboard sound they added at the end. If you think of video killed the radio star or fade to grey which are considered the first new wave and first new romantic songs respectively you can see how far away Roxy Music was from that sound. Disco influenced the last 2 albums more than any new wave sound.
Btw wikipedia even has them listed as progressive rock which is even more distant than new wave for them. So I never really go by wikipedia but I can see them as a model for new wave as visually their avante garde early look sort of has the dramatic effect that new romantic and new wave took on.
I think the telling tell for me is that if Roxy Music was new wave then surely Bryan Ferrys solo 80s stuff would be consider new wave. I dont think it is at all. I dont think most people consider Bryan Ferry new wave at all. Visually either and certainly not his videos or asthetic. And Roxy Music's last album was all Bryan Ferry...

@@rediscoveryrecords1348 Dang! That was an excellent, and knowledgeable explanation. As far as new wave is considered; I'm definitely more familiar with, and listen to the synthesizer bases bands such as Depeche Mode and Erasure.

No, not all their songs are "mellowy", although the album this song comes from is pretty restrained. Their first four albums (from the early 70s) are pretty much bat-sh*t insane.
