Rudolf Steiner quotes this in Chapter 6 of his book "The Riddles of Philosophy". The chapter is entitled The Age of Kant and Goethe. Wonderful translation here by Christopher Bamford.

This is my first introduction to Goethe and I feel like I've discovered my soulmate. Though I read and listen to old books, I often find that I have to trudge through the old prose, searching for the meaning. In this case, I found myself totally comfortable and in the moment. Well read and good choice of music and pictures. Thank you.

Out of all the things religions have said about death, I've never heard such comforting words as the ones in the end. "She has placed me here, she will lead me away. I trust myself to her"

The nicest poem I ever read by Johann Goethe, also love erlkonig which I read in high school in the Netherlands, in 1952.

Out mental faculties and the “external reality”(world) are a coupling! It’s two aspects of one whole.

A lot of people think Nietzsche coined the phrase, "Distrust all those in whom the urge to punish is strong," It was this guy though. People be stupit sometimes.

This was written by Georg Christoph Tobler, not Goethe. Though he frequented with Goethe in the Weimar court in 1781, the year before publishing this, and may have taken some matter of mind from the old sage.
