Pizza review: Russo’s Pizza (New Hope, PA)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 лип 2024
- In this video I travel across the state of New Jersey to a small little river hamlet called New Hope, Pennsylvania. The pizza culture here is rich, stemming from the Italian American settlement in the area, most likely the Trenton, NJ area and also due to the old train station in Lambertville, NJ, which served as a pit-stop for those travelling from NYC to Philadelphia.
Russo's Pizza is owned by someone with years of Pizza making expertise and boy did it show! Come sit alongside me on their patio as I sample their pie and give it a score!

Love their pizza!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I enjoyed the video. I would love that pizza because it has a lot of cheese on it!
Of course John, if you like char, then this could be your top pizza ....on the other side of PA ! Have you ever visited this area?
@@pizzareviewsonthego I was born in Philadelphia, but I was raised in Pittsburgh. I have never visited Philadelphia or New Hope.
Loved the thin crust tomato pie. It is the best so far. We travel far and wide checking out the tomorrow pies. We will be back
Great review! I always appreciate hearing about places that are a bit under the radar! That's definitely some nice looking pizza!
Thanks James for watching, glad you enjoyed it. Two awesome little river hamlets on either side of the bridge, lots to do and see and lots of great pizza in the area. I'm not done with the area.
Beautiful town and pizza. Pity it pooled in the middle. I'd guess the large doesn't suffer from that. Nice aged dough by the looks of it and good to see them cook it to abeetz level. Now I want pizza! 🍕👍⚡⚡⚡
What's up Owen, yes, this could have been an even higher score. Very surprised. I have some more places lined up in the area to review. Apizza level for sure. BTW, lots of Irish pubs in the area too, pretty old ones.
@@pizzareviewsonthego Guinness reviews on the go! Lol
@@pizzareviewsonthego You got to go with a large pie if you're going to order an entire one. Call me crazy but I feel like the majority of pizza places do a much better job on a large than a small pizza
Glad to see someone found Russo's. The entire area from Trenton to Phillipsburg (on both sides of the river) is 4th in the world only behind, in order, Brooklyn, North Jersey, and New Haven.
Staten Island is the top borough for Pizza in NY IMO.
What a crust. What a buttom.Look at this color.WOW!I like this wild, rustic pizza. Also enjoy this little town with its own old vibe.
Nice review. I agree with you as it pertains to the level of cheese on that pizza. I think the pizza guy may have been thrown off a bit by putting large cheese pizza amount on a small...lol. The undercarriage looked incredible. Crust looked very interesting and light/ The sog and wet middle would have bugged me, but it looks like a solid pie nonetheless. Thanks for making the trip.
That's what I was thinking, he put what he would usually put on the 24". The manager inside said the guy was only there 2 weeks, making the pizza. Imagine how much better this pie could even be. My pleasure!
What a beautiful city and pie
I can't wait to go back.
Looks awesome, and unique 😋 I'm jealous
Holy shit I just looked up their menu and it says the large pie is 25". They musn't fuck around there
That's why I got the small. Their large is massive.
Antonio what is the name of the bumper song in the beginning of the video? I need to hear the entire tune !
It's funny how the burnt parts of a pizza can taste so much better than the parts that are cooked perfectly........The combination is what so many people love in a pie.......Your geography and history lessons are so enjoyable Antonio, keep it going like that.......
Thanks Norman. I could see how many would consider it burnt. It didn't taste burned though, it's a slightly charred bottom layer. I will absolutely include more history in my next videos.
I’ve been to Russo’s many times. Love the pizza, their crust can be inconsistent at times, but it’s always got that crisp. I like a little more chew with the crust.
Best Neapolitan pie is also in Lambertville, Liberty Hall pizza. One of the best in NJ & NYC.
I appreciate the recommendation Eric. I have that one on my list...as well as many others. I will be highlighting these places soon, as well as "It's Nutts," in Titusville and DiNapoli in New Hope.
I’ve heard a lot New Yorkers visit of New Hope and Lambertville NJ.
I didn't that region was even known for great pizza. You did find a hidden gem. I love pizzas baked well done like that! Tremendous looking crust and undercarriage. The crisp was there also, I agree with you on the cheese. That's just a personal preference.
The area was the pit-stop for those making a journey from NYC to Philadelphia on train. Many people settled there, very old homes, restaurants and hotels.
All of Bucks County PA has killer pizza, yo
That pizza look really good. I don't get sausage unless it is the Italian fennel sausage. I would have love to bit into that garlic on the crust. Great review Antonio you know your pizza way better than the guy from Boston. I love how you actually eat the pizza. The reason I'm saying this, there is a guy who also reviews pizza and he takes a small bite of the pizza then reviews it. I noted in the comments how can you review a pizza with such a small bite.
I eat a lot more pizza when the record button is off! lol. As long as he finishes that thing off camera! ;)
My neck of the woods. Nice job. Hi ping to try it.
I plan on trying two more places out in the area. Tell Russo's I sent ya ! ;)
@@pizzareviewsonthego Try DeLucia’s in Raritan. 100 year old oven.
@@bb57365 I actually was gonna go today.
By far the best pizza I’ve had in PA
Outside of Angelo’s in Philly, this is probably the best in all of PA outside of Philly
@@pizzareviewsonthego completely forgot about that one that one is also good
@@pizzareviewsonthego have u also tried Liberty Hall pizza in lambertville (right across the bridge)?
Hell yea man, very cool you went across the river to check our New Hope. I ride my bike on the canal path on the Jersey side often. Lambertville is a cool town as well. Place gets packed on a nice weekend
Edit: that mic was picking up the crunching beautifully lol
Jersey where have you been my whole life!? Yeah, I was there Tuesday and still, so many restaurants were packed. Sadly, New Hope pizzerias were empty. And yes, I took quite a few bites there lol...had to show that it was mostly crunchy, save for the first bite.
i want some pie
Amazing looking pie Antonio. I myself like the sauce to the edge. But the crust looks unbelievable!!
Yeah me too and the thing with tomato pies they tend to use crushed tomato. Thanks Budu.
A good one for a rewatch. I always like the ones where you go out of town. I'll bet there are a lot more gems to be found in that neck of the woods, but obviously I don't expect you to be doing that kind of driving around any time soon, now that winter has set in. I'm still amazed at how much char they got on that crust with a gas fired oven. I'm thinking they must use so much cheese so it doesn't get burnt and dried out when the crust is done to their liking.
My plans went to shit this month after getting sick. Frozen shoulder, flu symptoms. Lasted 2 weeks. I'm still a bit weak. I was supposed to go to Stroudsburg PA and Philly. Now get this, I can't taste anything. I'm no longer congested, I feel almost 100% and I have no ability to taste or smell, not a single trace of anything.
Sometimes that char is burned flour. Not the case here, the crust was nicely flavored with that smoky char. I went back the next week and the owner was pissed because the pizza guy was new and the pandemic took away his top guys. He wanted a 9 and said the flop is very unusual for his pizza. One day I will go back for a rescore. Hope the same manager is there, that guy was a trip. It's a cool town, it's as if everyone there is from NYC or Philly.
@@pizzareviewsonthego That sucks, but I'm sure it won't last. I got COVID back in September myself, but my symptoms were fairly mild, and it didn't affect my taste buds, thankfully. If I hadn't had my vaccine shots, who knows? Things might have been a lot worse.
Nice video and review!
Thanks Brian.
That looked really good. Would give anything to have that quality again in the central NJ area. We had a Primos but they moved out 5 years ago was the best around.
Now that’s what a real crunch should sound like. Not like that fake stuff that Boston guy claims on his frozen pie.
Look at that CHAR !!!🔥🍕😳
I love the footage you do at the pizzerias. The pizza don't look that bad either
Russoooo-Punisher
Wow 👏God Bless you 🙏YOU TRAVEL HAVE PIZZA 🍕😀WILL TRAVEL. L O L!!!!!
Oh yes! I don't fly though. I may change that someday.
Russos is the best Pizza in New Hope. If you really want to try great Pizza go to Delucias in Raritan NJ...its mind blowing.
I reviewed DeLucia’s many months ago!
@@pizzareviewsonthego Aside from pizza New hope has great food. Next time you are around check out Zoubis (Mechanic Street - next to Karlas) and Martines -(far left from Bucks playhouse)
@@andreaviola8675 will do ! I did a livestream there when I had those meatballs at that Italian place across from Russo’s
That's very close to being burned. I will definitely try next time in New Hope.
It was a new guy they hired, it didn't taste burned but yes, very well done. Some might not like it.
I like your reviews, you call them how you see them, keep up the good work.
Why do I feel a moonlight review coming up??
I plan on dining at each of those amazing restaurants.
A lot of South Philly Italians are gonna have a problem with you saying tomato pies are from Trenton. Just sayin
@4:50 That the only thing well baked here?
Nope, stay tuned for more hidden gems.
@@pizzareviewsonthego Just joking around.
Looking forward to it.
Oh man, Steve the owner didn't make that pie. You have to go back these days, as he's the only one making the pies and you'll push that score up into the 9's for sure.
I went back the next week to tell them I loved the pie and the manager told me that it’s usually better than the one I had
I was expecting a slightly lower score, with that soggy crust. But it does look damn tasty. I'm thinking they must be baking at a very high temp to get so much char on the crust, and none at all that I could see on the cheese.
You are probably right, but hey, that pizza was too good to not forgive that soggy first bite. I also plan on showing a few more hidden gems soon. Stay tuned.
@@pizzareviewsonthego I stayed tuned all the time!
Ya think it was over scored? He gave sallys only .3 more I meannnnn r u kidding? Lollll sallys got a 8.9 that got 8.6? Lollllll just gotta be a joke
@@alpo2567 did you hear the crunch here? Sally's barely reaches that crunch level. And this pie maintains a similar lightness. And char. If this pie was tighter I'd go 9.1.
@@pizzareviewsonthego what are you Dave now all about crunch lolll sallys is as old school as it gets I’m sorry you know it’s true
You can never have to much 🧀 cheese.
Yes, I don't prefer it but I made sure to mention that some people will not complain !
@@pizzareviewsonthego Yes and I like that dark crust.
There’s no pizza on planet earth that’s as consistent as sallys go to johns bleecker or difara you get a diff made pizza very often!!!! Difara obv amazing always regardless but just saying consistency counts for something and Sally’s has everyone beat by that!!!
I have to agree with you there buddy. Bleecker is pretty consistent too.
@@pizzareviewsonthego maybe when you went but I’ve been there about 5 times and 3 times it was cooked way under. Kinda like your patsys review looked way under cooked. Well atleast for coal oven standards
Who has the best sauce

Why do you waste your time with these places when Sallys is only 2 hrs from you? 😛
How long have you been employed by Sally’s?
@@UMAmherst1 Antonio just doesn’t like old school
Pizza like he thinks he does he’s all about the cheese at johns of bleecker lolll
I gave Sally's Tomato Pie a 9.1 and I don't like old school pizza? lol Dude, Sally's crust is great but it should have a better balance between chew and moderate aeration.
