- Over the weekend, the Los Angeles Lakers were able to retain Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura. The organization also signed Jaxson Hayes, Cam Reddish, Gabe Vincent, and Taurean Prince. The Lakers now have continuity, depth, size, versatility, and youth. They have have more 3&D players. Pelinka did a great job. Now he needs to add another backup center to help shore up the Lakers defense.

Still No real center that can shoot to put AD at 4 and no high level shooter and 3pts specialist to diversify their game and be a real threat behind the 3pts line , they shouldn't have kept neutral Dlo who's trash everything playoffs and add Gabe " one good playoff " vincent, they can't compete with Denver or the warriors.
They don't have size. AD is their biggest player and he's more of a 4 than a 5. Against Jokic, they only had AD and Rui try to guard him and both are too small against a real center

And center that can shoot is something the lakers never had or needed we one with AD at the four and center who were long and athletic in McGee and Howard. Hayes fits that role. A minor version. Plus our defense bought to be good. The warriors got worse the grizzlies without ja are suspect we will see with the nuggets but the lakers are obviously a top 3 or4 team in the west probably 2 tbh.

Rob did a great job in retaining Reeves, Rui and D'Lo and added some new pieces of Vincent, Prince and Hayes. They need to add one more Center and that should be a complete team.
Thought Plumlee would’ve been a great fit shame the clippers were able to get him back

As a laker fan I was really hoping they’d just bring back all the important rotation guys. Bit sad that Dennis isn’t coming back but I do like Vincent and think that he will have better shooting year playing next to Bron. Really looking forward to Reaves developing more and hopefully really breaking out as a star player. Rui also has a very high ceiling and can be a great player. Awesome free agency.

Rui, Wenyen, and Vanderbilt will all probably play some minutes as a small ball center and then they have Jaxson as a full-time backup. I think they wait and if they absolutely need another center due to injury or something then they grab one on the spot. Otherwise, it is a waste of cash right now.

It was smart not to let Dlo walk for nothing. He took a pay cut and LAL have a tradeable contract. Maybe he will play D and not wilt in big moments.
His defense is honestly fine... he's an average defender and every metric backs that up. He just has the narrative against him now and he's not enough of a defensive stopper to change it. Defensively, Schroder and Reaves didn't do any better than him in the WCF. DLo is just so unathletic that it looks a lot worse when he gets beat than it would for anybody else.

@@jordancharles8598 that’s a lie. DLO had the lowest +/- of any player for 2 out of the 4 games in the WCF. You can’t do that if you’re the “third option” on the team.
He’s not a guy that makes his team better if his shot is not falling. At least Schröder can get you value if he’s not scoring. He’s good for maybe 2-3 forced turnovers per game. DLo won’t get you that and still maybe give you a single digit scoring game in the playoffs as the “3rd option”.
Like game 1 DLo was -25 when he was on the floor in a game where the Lakers lost by 6. That’s insane for the supposed third option on the team.
And DLo’s transition defense is abysmal. He is always caught out in no man’s land with the opponent pushing on a missed shot. On a shot attempt he should either be getting back on D or grabbing a rebound - but he just stands at the three point line flat footed. That’s either low basketball IQ or lack of effort.
Schröder at least puts in the effort to get back and stop the ball.

One thing they’re discounting about Gabe is regardless of how the Finals ended up going, he now has more playoff experience against the Team that’s probably favored in the West next year so that’s nothing but upside on paper at least.

That makes him even more dangerous. The lack of "drive", as you put it, was there before this championships, and he was still the best player in the playoffs by a landslide. A lot of guys act as of they don't care about the narratives surrounding them, Jokic is one of the very few I would buy actually don't care about what's said about him. So he will go out and play exactly like he did this season, if they don't win it won't be because of him, that much I can assure you.

That was an unfair season for LA. They never had any rest from the previous 2020 season and played immediately thus resulting to a lot of injuries. They weren't able to rest.
And before Lebron got injured they were on pace for 54 wins, which would have been the no.1 seed and best record in the entire NBA that season, plus then AD got injured in the playoffs when it looked like they had the Suns' number before that injury, a Suns team that went onto make the Finals. Let's not try to rewrite history and act like that was a broken roster like the one the rolled out on opening day last season or the one before that.

The C+ for Russell is low, his addition after the trade deadline helped LA get MUCH NEEDED spacing. He had some games where the J was just buttery, opening up the floor for everyone else. He struggled in the playoffs no doubt.

The Lakers still have no physicality. They need Dwight Howard ASAP.
Looking at their potential 2nd team offensively they are streaky at best. They have alot of athleticism but Gabe might be the only consistent shooter on that 2nd team. Against good defensive teams they might have trouble scoring in the half court

Hayes and Reddish signing minimum deals is a massive let down for them though. They were the 8th and 10th picks in the 2019 draft. You don’t sign a minimum after your rookie deal expires when you got that high 😞 Rui was the 9th pick and even though he’s hardly balled out, he got himself a nice bag.
