I was lucky to Train with Steven for 2 years between 2004 and 2006 , in London Hendon central ( East West Studios). We used to train Silat Wali Songo ( which is called now Satria Arts Fighting) and Silat Cimande on Fridays. Great Silat School, Great Master and Teacher 👊

Nope, different style, Steven performs move here same as "merantau" not "the raid". But iko failed to represent harimau style (power, speed, agility) because he is not harimau practicioner. Yayan is better but still not as good as real harimau practitioners.
Harimau style is some of very hard level of training, take alot of time and practice to learn about it, it cannot achieve only with 2 or 3 years of training.

I really enjoyed this story and am very happy for Steven. I can appreciate that their language of internal arts may have its differences to Chinese terminology, but having trained internal I can say there wasn't anything in his description of Silat's internal understanding that is lacking from the practices of authentic Chinese internal arts. I would be curious to hear what Steven thinks that the Chinese arts are up too, bit more than waving around soft floppy hands lol 🙂

it is interesting to hear discussion about internality. I think in sport psychology it would be understandable by the concept of "embodiment"... not only how to apply the moves, but also how to synchronize between moves and the practitioner's body, posture, character and even personality. All the student may learn the same jurus but would have "interact" and internalizing the moves by their own.

7:25 comes up *and if needed brings down. ( Going up, pin the nose bone, up in the cranium with a diagonal motion from the palm of your hand). Up, twist it in, hit nose bone going up twist and hand fly away in the air and the job is done. Or not and ready to slap that head back down to your knee. Neutralize don't fight.
Life or death matter. Palm up and angled left or right, diagonal. Hit that nose from bottom, (from in between the lip), up and toward left or right eye. Take your finger, feel that sensible bone on yourself. That's where you hit it. Then you extend your feet toward his knee, break it if you hit it. If not he won't use that leg. After all, he'll be bent from the first hit under and up the nose bone.. Get you fingers interlocked, like cops would tell you and bring his head toward your knee going up. Military martial art in words. Don't fight, neutralize. (Without even talking about the Adam's apple, laryngeal prominence. Or groin, balls.
Those students learned well. I'm impressed by many youngsters of my age.

    Hey question:
And no disrespect here,I'm just curious.
I love the arts but im also a stickler for combat realism.Ive seen many knife fights out on the street & we all have seen prison knife attack videos on youtube.
Both are quick and pretty nasty.
How effective is this style in the street?.
Not against another silat guy but
against some psycho, close quaters, that wants to stab u to death.
    I always wonder about that.

  • @GonG108
    @GonG108 4 роки тому

silat has many Wing Tsun influences or vice versa , if you had a WT Master teaching you like you experienced with your Silat teacher you would have been victorious in your street battles , take a look at Dai SIFu Salih Avci or simply Avci Wing Tsun ( he invented the WT ground fight after over 600 street fights ) I would not say this is better or something else it depends always on how intense you have trained .

naruni, "Nurani"/conscience: is a cognitive process that produces feelings and associations rationally based on one's moral outlook or value system.
when you see someone fall and get hurt, surely there will be a whisper in the heart, .. help or not. thats "nurani",
more training of clean "nurani", will increase the "premonition".
the premonition in pencak silat is a warning sign of danger,..deal or no deal.
more high level of firasat, will be increase "rasa"/feeling,
in silat "feeling" is the body's ability to detect natural material around us and also assess or measure the strength of the opponent, so that our body will react naturally to adjust the power in attacking, avoiding and deflect a danger.
and the last is "internal power" (breathing tecnique),
    in ordinary people know adrenalin.
in silat, adrenalin can be turn on and controlled in anytime.
adrenaline..increase the ability of the body (cells, muscles, brain, etc.), in silat trainining will increases percentage of ability. internal power=ability skill ( "ilmu kanuragan") in silat is very very very secret. tq

Pencak Silat and Silat Are Very Different Because:
    1. Pencak silat from Indonesia (registered in UNESCO as a cultural, artistic and spiritual tradition)
    2. silat from Malaysia (registered in UNESCO as a sport developed by Malaysia)
Pencak silat from Indonesia was designed to kill in dance because during the colonial era, Indonesians were prohibited from learning any martial arts.
That's why if you delve deeper into pencak silat you will be able to learn a killing technique that is only taught by a trainer if the trainer feels you are more mature and responsible.
But silat from Malaysia is a sport.
    note:
You can find out the truth that pencak silat and silat are very different through UNESCO

You can't "tell" someone what Chi is lad. Some things just have to be experienced firsthand, and then need no explanation. Seek out Sifu Adam Mizner....( Martial Man does a series of interviews with him on UA-cam that are well worth watching...) Study under him. Other instructors of true internal martial arts can be found also, but all must be able to demonstrate their ability firsthand, to ever be able to be considered legit.

You’ll get yourself hurt badly in the street, join a mma club or just box, that’s all that works in the streets. Who moves around like this in a fight? 🤦🏽‍♂️ if this guy is so good I challenge him to go fight someone his weight in a mma cage fight, I guarantee you he’d get knocked the heck out.
