William Cheung teaches a very similar technique against a round kick using both hands and double larp sao slapping the kicking leg down and moving with the kick to help diminish the power ,the further the kick travels along its strength curve the power naturally lessons
0:44 The same punching combination I've learned in my pencak silat class and just practiced yesterday, not kidding! We do it just slighty different, we tend to hold the right arm of the partner down after the passing and then pull his left arm towards ourselves to enhance the power of the following uppercut (0:48). We also hit the rips in a more uppercut motion to hit them more with our knuckles. If you do it this way, we quickly discovered in training that the chin of the partner practically falls onto your fist, we had to be very carefull!
I love that he talks about real application vs training. Many Katas lost their meaning because people forgot over the generations how to actually apply it and then made up some BS excuses for how to apply them (only for others to find more plausible applications)
i picked up muay thai 4 yrs ago when i was in my late 20's ... as a muslim growing up, i learned 'silat' now, i can do my tip kicks and leg blocks better when i add both of this 2 arts 2gther...
When people teaching the techniques you guys complaining the art is too slow n then comparing with MMA fighter is faster n blah blah... Let me put this way if you are not able to do the right technique means YOU ARE TOO SLOW than your opponent.. that’s why this technique was setup before the opponent throw any punch or kick, so that you can read n counter attack miserably. And if the opponent react the other round, you at least must have another technique to counter back. And of course, practise is needed to master any techniques rather than watch MMA match n complaining. oh ya.. if you are too good in MMA why not gambling.. you must be rich by now.
Too many moves to remember. What if the opponent throws a punch and retracts way faster than u can catch it? Silat should be simpler. That's why people take up Muay Thai
@@ericpeterson6822 just realised my old comments still got an attention. This drill is only for someone who wants to be more creative in martial arts.. that's why there are so many movement. Of course in silat it still can make a straight punch n KO. Silat Not meant to someone who lazy to learn.. the movement need to be practised perfectly until you no longer depend on the steps.. it just go by itself self conscious n natural.. which we call it self defense n martial arts.. 😄
@@faish956 I think for an untrained opponent, you can easily swap hands here and there, slap here and there, but for a realistic scenario, with a trained martial artist, Silat will need to move into fast striking mode. Which renders the whole movement thing redundant. But still, to execute the moves is a feat itself. If someone can do them without even thinking hard, that's a fighting machine there.
The real question is how do you manage to move like 5 times faster than your opponent? That opens up a whole lot of possibilities ;P. Edit: there are way too many serious responses to how to move 5x faster. Maybe I should have worded it “how do you get real opponents to only throw BS attacks in super slow motion”. Because that’s what we’ve got here. I would be shocked if he could pull much of this stuff off against any reasonably competent kickboxer
Tumbukan itu utk latihan..tpi kalau dalam situasi yang sebenar gerakan pukulan itu lebih bahaya lagi..sebab dlm silat pukulan dia banyak kena tempat kelemahan manusia..
You need to recite some mantera. But us Muslim are forbidden to do such act. I will however give you some verse as an example. Aku anak harimau Hamzah, kulitku menjadi belulang, tulangku menjadi besi kursani....this is just a random example. Hope it answer the question.
Vertis M. Wilder sir, there are few styles of silat. I think Master Maul's fall in the kuntao or buah pukul, pukulan(hitting) category of silat.. So you can find silat in this category. Good luck Sir..

And lmao when someone say, the real life is not have a rules, or ring boxing. In the war at battlefield, do you think there have a rules?
@Fastreal, yes when Suffian shows the techniques that you would really do as opposed to what you practice in class with another inexperienced partner, it is plain to see that this is no 'sport.' It is neck-breaking martial arts at it's finest level.
@@sauceforce9623Silat is not unique in that. Other arts that were designed for warfare as well like Jiujitsu, however, they developed the art of Judo so that people could practice it together without causing permanent damage. Silat has nothing like this. How is your opponent going to get back up again when you've dislocated his shoulder, stomped on and broken his ankle, and Broken his neck?
Wow. I'll one up that crap. Give me your leg extended- thanks- dislocated- or I could hit multiple open points because you exposed them by opening up for me causing you to loose use of your leg for a little bit(jello legs)- nerve points.
Silat and muay thai was born out of warfare, the thai never conquered the malay no matter how mighty the thai kingdom is. Maybe that could put you in perspective
Even though I'm doing mma training now and lots of mma folks will talk about this being unrealistic possibly.... I actually see some good stuff here that I'm certain could work. And I have no doubt that instructor could really pull off what he's doing. His movement seems very focused and effective.
He is very well know in south east asia, the problem is comparing silat to mma is silat was born on jungle warfare and tribal gangfights, the most effective technique are eye gouging, low blow, fishhook, finger stabbing on your neck, nasty chokes, elbow on the back of your head(which is highly illegal in mma),just like when someone took a hold against his opponent in mma, u could easily the opponent could elbow him hard one the back or the back of his head, this is highly illegal kn mma..silat will be severely disabled if u give them a rule like ufc/mma, its never meant for sports..
yearlongjack - all arts start off doing that. Standing and ground. It is part of the process of learning how to do a technique, do it well, teach muscle memory to do it well in a real full speed fighting situation. It's a process. Even the best fighters do this in whatever art of types of sight your can think of.
Then nobody learns the techniques. Sorry, but even MMA and BJJ pratice the techniques before going full steam with them. Silat does have sparing but this is a demo. With students not fimilar so...yes, there has to be a level of compliance at first so learning happens.
He ist not reading his opponents moves he instead allows his oponnent to start somehow and leading his opponent to use certain moves allowing to him finish fight in a way he want's to. That's lesson behind maul's teaching: Face opponent and let it start the way it's supposed to then end it in any way you want.
I've never seen somebody striking with a punch and then blanking while you move his arms as you like without him resisting and punch him multiple times (well except in the movies). Normally a person punch you and if they can't hit you they'll try again in half a second with the other hand, probably coming at you with all his weight and he will move his arm frantically if you try to just push them in rotatory movements... I honestly can't see how this can be applicable. Also, from my kickboxing background I can tell you that blocking kicks that way is very risky. A good fighters will very easily pass your attempt to block and the face is left too exposed. About the "breaking the leg" demonstration, well, unless you are a lot stronger than your opponent you will never be in a stable position to make that move after blocking a roundside kick (which is very dangerous to block with your palms) and your opponent will not just let you push his leg away gently but will try to hit hard making you stumble. The one at 3:37 is quite effective though because he in fact cuts the distance short making the kick useless before the guy can even extend his leg. Probably the only technique that actually works.
Hi Roberto. Thanks for your comments. I pull off trapping and manipulations in sparring all the time (mainly Muay Thai) It works, just not as formally pretty as a demo. It's just rare because people are yet to be educated in it. Lomachenko is probably the most famous example of a trapper right now, but it will get there. Is it high percentage? No, but higher than you think because you're stuffing the counter, or delaying at least. I rarely get tagged for screwing up a trap. Also remember Maul is moving very slowly so you can see what he's doing. He's not swinging in circles, he's throwing the arms at awkward rooting angles. This is a demo of a principle. If you want to talk realism, no one should ever kick mid line in the street.
Loving the hand work. I assume it's just a case of practice makes perfect to get the sort of speed need for those blocks and counters? As for this kick defences; Front kick, in a street scenario you may get away with this. Use it against an MMA fighter, kickboxer or Thai Boxer and it will maybe work once, then they will change the angle of elevation (whilst kicking) and kick in the now unguarded face. Round kick defences- some of these are straight out of the traditional Jujitsu manual and are very valid... I would be very wary of ever trying to block mid kicks with cutting down forearm blocks. First- you're likely to break your arms, second- if you do deflect, then you've no guard, third- some Thai boxers can throw a mid kick a fraction of a second after throwing their hands... how can your hands be in 2 places? Would it not be better to use legs to block legs and arms to block arms?
EZKILL P thank you for the respectful comments and questions. My POV: For this art you don’t plan on ever using a technique more than once on someone. He should never even gotten the kick off-it’s almost a thought experiment for fun. Thai fighters and MMA people catch kicks all the time-more than makes me comfortable for the reason you say-but clearly it can work. Hands against feet and vice versa I think just depends on what you have to and want to do. Blocking with your legs on bad terrain (this art) is likely a bad idea-almost as bad as kicking high in the first place. The answer is usually, ‘it depends’ and often, ‘just for fun’
KickofLegend at least you’re honest.: it’s a just for fun method to stop stuff but it’s not realistic and mainly won’t work.. of course if you’re up against an untrained person anything can work
@Aidan Fisher Mr. Maul just shows his self defense system. If u find it useful then take it, other wise leave it, as simple as that. No need to be a keyboard warrior.
@Aidan Fisher The same thing apply to you. it's not ur business of what Mr Maul does. If you think u r better than him, then try to make your own martial art school or run ur own seminar, and let see how many ppl want o be ur student, or attending ur seminar class. as simple as that. And again, no need to be keyboard warrior !
Tradidional silat put emphasis on a robust stance to avoid a take down. The traditional practicioners mainly use their hand in fight. It might be assumed to use approximately 40% punch, 20% lock, 20% take down (ground fight). and 20% kick. they mainly throw a low and stright kick to the epigastrium, or use the kick when the opponent lose his balance.
I'm no expert by all means but I have some opinions I would like to share. For the people who like to say this and that won't work in a real fight/streetfight.... ofc it won't work perfectly but usually, this kind of thing I believe you have to train till it is in the muscle memory. Your reflects will automatically act that way even you fight cowboy and you say silat won't work but they created silat for war, even now in some military they still practice basic silat. imagine that. not all the training looks practical but it is part of the "training". it is all about your determination, hard work, etc, etc...
Silat is very similar to Escrima/Kali. The philosophy is to get the fight over as quickly as possible for the simple the reason that the longer the fight the more chance you will get seriously injured or killed. So all the move are basically parry your attacker and then disable your attacker. It is that simple. Easy to say. Remember people in this culture have bladed weapons. You cannot fool around.
hahahaha lol hammer fist to stop a kick? Cool story bro... a proper Thai kick will slam into your arms so fast that you only have time to block.. you don’t have time to hammer fist it.. stupid
hahahaha you can find so many Thai kick boxers breaking arms with round house kicks even when their arms are in the stationary guard.. yet you believe that bringing your arms into the force of such kicks is the right method to go! Hahaha
hahahaha funny lol.. by the way I spoke to the owner of this channel and he said that these moves are “ just for fun moves “ and not meant to be realistic .. so hahahaha ! In your face stupid
hahahaha A conditioned shin can break wood and steel. I coach my students holding pads all the time and even blocking a roundhouse holding light or heavy mitts with that hammer fist stance he did will usually cause injuries to my shoulders and sometimes the mitts would tear my lips from the force caused. Just come visit our training camp and we can demonstrate realistically instead of backlashing with words.
man with silat practical will not use hand block if have a kick, they will be a use the power for take down...its fatal block cause thats happened with my hand cmiiw
A hammer fist wouldn't work against seasoned Muay Thai fighters. You would break your hands/wrists. But his foot work and movement is pretty logical. Could work against someone untrained
Do you know silat and muay thai is just neighbour country.. They are in war about 100 years ... Langkasuka and siam .. There is no winner in silat or muay thai...
Nice but needs some updating. Still not realistic enough. With some work it can definitely be useful The goldern standard is can you make it work in sparring agasint a skilled opponent? And can you teach a beginner to make it work in sparring too? Those are the traits of the best combat arts
Johnny Channarong what im just saying is it always depend on you not on the technique no matter how many techniques you watch if you don't really understand what really happen in real fight it's useless . you can still block or parry the same way the instructor did here but not in the way you expect it sometimes you can execute properly sometimes you can't . just like what Bruce Lee said all styles are effective but it just depends on the practioner
Emir EC this video is short and thus is lacking all the necessary move or action against an enemy or enemies. My best word for today- see the silat master and join in their school or club or whatever.
If you look closely, it's not about choreograph. It's about limiting the opponent 's movements that it suits your anticipation, in other words; trapping the opponent so his counter attacks will be his own demise.
@Aidan Fisher as someone who keeps bashing about the teacher, you do have a bad focus towards the simple and short tutorial video of a long seminar here. If you pay attention to the video, the question has already been answered at minute 1:00-1:13 and even before the video reaches the first minute it has explains alot. However if you refuse to accept it as an answer, well it's not my problem.

I totally respect the master but in real world fight situation, I don't think that pretty flowing movement will work. The attacker is not going to just stand after the initial punch. They are going to attack violently. But I'm sure it holds some mert. don't get me wrong. Knowing some type of defense is better than none. I can honestly say these moves don't work in MMA. Which I feel is close to street fights. They attack and wrestle each other to ground. Then back up again.
Remember on the street, there are no rules, no referees and that first punch is probably going to come out of nowhere. Nobody is going to ring a bell and come out shaking your hand. Once you are poked in the eye, kicked in the groin or pushed through a plate glass window, that fight is going to continue. No such thing as tapping out on the street so I hope you are right.

William Cheung teaches a very similar technique against a round kick using both hands and double larp sao slapping the kicking leg down and moving with the kick to help diminish the power ,the further the kick travels along its strength curve the power naturally lessons
Excellent training techniques!!
Silat Is Very practical !
Sou muito fã desse mestre e gostaria de saber si existe uma academia em São Paulo?
Merci pour cette vidéo très intéressante. 🙏
I hope one day i can train with u Master, 🙏
I hope you have a dojo here in the Philippines, particularly in Mindanao. Pls. let me know your branches if ever you have.
Very impressive, i like the weapons side of silat. This guy is very skilled.🎉
I love that he talks about real application vs training. Many Katas lost their meaning because people forgot over the generations how to actually apply it and then made up some BS excuses for how to apply them (only for others to find more plausible applications)
i picked up muay thai 4 yrs ago when i was in my late 20's ... as a muslim growing up, i learned 'silat'
now, i can do my tip kicks and leg blocks better when i add both of this 2 arts 2gther...
What was the silat style that the master used in this video please let me know
When people teaching the techniques you guys complaining the art is too slow n then comparing with MMA fighter is faster n blah blah...
This cat would fuck up MMA fighters every day of the week & twice on Sunday. Silat is to kill nothing else.
@@gabrieljohannson6777 true...it is the propose silat was made...
Thank you teacher
sir i like this arts so much so please can u make an app.....on this
What is the solar style that the master was using
The real question is how do you manage to move like 5 times faster than your opponent? That opens up a whole lot of possibilities ;P. Edit: there are way too many serious responses to how to move 5x faster. Maybe I should have worded it “how do you get real opponents to only throw BS attacks in super slow motion”. Because that’s what we’ve got here. I would be shocked if he could pull much of this stuff off against any reasonably competent kickboxer
Simple... keep practicing it in a real situation :)
Jumat no
Buy your opponent a few beers, wait for him to get drunk, now you're faster than him. Don't try this with a Drunken Master Kung Fu fighter though...
I appreciate your work sir.
Do you know of any good schools that associate with your style in the southeast United States?
Vertis M. Wilder sir, there are few styles of silat. I think Master Maul's fall in the kuntao or buah pukul, pukulan(hitting) category of silat.. So you can find silat in this category. Good luck Sir..
Thank you Sir
Do you know of any training that is near Olando, Fl or North Carolina?
I have not found those styles of Silat I will check.
Thank you Sir
I'd like to see his techniques against one of Mori Higianos top.students.
Do you have a place to train in Egypt?
We need see Jkd 10 and 15 count if you can please thank you sir
Try hammer fisting down on Buakaw’s roundhouse kick. I very much like almost all of the techniques here, but that won’t work.
Go fight this man if u more complain about his technique.. Look how far u can survive.. How long time u can stand up..
i'd also pay to see that live stream :)
@Aidan Fisher where the proof that this master refuse ,inilah kecik x nak mampus besar ii menyusahkan orang
@Aidan Fisher I guess you can just visit him and fight him. I would be happy to watch it in stream
after pushing the opponent away, i'd do a backflip, double twist sommersault, make a strange burp sound.... then run away while he's confused.
Wtf I'm confused
I guess you will only learn this in the long lost martial art of LOONEY TOONS.
This is actually one of the most realistic and honest comments here.
Someone call it useless to street fight, ahaha humor me pls...
Silat actually is not for lil fight on the street XD
Silat is Killing art move to the war, malay warrior use it to killing enemies in one strike.
That's a really poor argument. Wrestling is a war as yet we still see it in sport so is javelin throwing
Exactly thank you for saying that from Malaysia
the fact is long time ago west colonial have lose in close combat with silat..this is history. They rule south east asia with gun and cannon.
Good stuff
I like silat's technic but roundhouse kick defence is some trouble!
You can defend kick like that arms must broken...
kick me all your power, you will have problems for walking . arms are shields when used and trained properly
Wow. I'll one up that crap. Give me your leg extended- thanks- dislocated- or I could hit multiple open points because you exposed them by opening up for me causing you to loose use of your leg for a little bit(jello legs)- nerve points.
hello master.. can you counter muay thai fighter skill?
with ease i'm sure
Not with this technique against trained fighter.
He is very well know in south east asia, the problem is comparing silat to mma is silat was born on jungle warfare and tribal gangfights, the most effective technique are eye gouging, low blow, fishhook, finger stabbing on your neck, nasty chokes, elbow on the back of your head(which is highly illegal in mma),just like when someone took a hold against his opponent in mma, u could easily the opponent could elbow him hard one the back or the back of his head, this is highly illegal kn mma..silat will be severely disabled if u give them a rule like ufc/mma, its never meant for sports..
many in the comments saying the attack was set up...well yeah... if you're asking why then you just don't get the point.
Vero good.. Cool.. May I learn in your camp
I'm curious about how he'd defend a low kick, 'cause my training partners can't kick that high.
There are legs for that, pretty sure a low kick would be defended with abother kick to the knee or something
Try attend his seminars. All in youtube is only a minuscule of what he teaches live.
@@goncalobaia1574 You would be right, i just found it weird that the video focuses on kicks you'd see less often.

What happens if the opponents moves aren’t choreographed 🤔
yearlongjack - all arts start off doing that. Standing and ground. It is part of the process of learning how to do a technique, do it well, teach muscle memory to do it well in a real full speed fighting situation. It's a process. Even the best fighters do this in whatever art of types of sight your can think of.
It would be practical to spar full contact with gear on after practicing the basic techniques in slow form.
You get your ass kicked. Its 2018 and, for some reason, we still have to act like this stuff works.
yearlongjack 🤦🏻♂️ ur silly person , make a challenge with him and u will see.
Then nobody learns the techniques. Sorry, but even MMA and BJJ pratice the techniques before going full steam with them. Silat does have sparing but this is a demo. With students not fimilar so...yes, there has to be a level of compliance at first so learning happens.
Teknik yg mantab.
Sy suka teknik antisipasi gerakan lanjutan
The Best👍👍
I think it's gonna be nice when if u repeat for slow motion...coz wlu gonna make easy way to understanding...
He ist not reading his opponents moves he instead allows his oponnent to start somehow and leading his opponent to use certain moves allowing to him finish fight in a way he want's to. That's lesson behind maul's teaching: Face opponent and let it start the way it's supposed to then end it in any way you want.
This is defence against kick, kinda cool...
Super loved
As for this kick defences;
Front kick, in a street scenario you may get away with this.
My POV:
For this art you don’t plan on ever using a technique more than once on someone.
A+ awesome 😃👍💪🥋🥊
If you want to see realistic silat moves, check out videos from malaysia, indonesia or brunei silat...keep exploring 😊
I like Silat... Salam From Indonesia
おもしろかったです。
I'm no expert by all means but I have some opinions I would like to share.
For the people who like to say this and that won't work in a real fight/streetfight.... ofc it won't work perfectly but usually, this kind of thing I believe you have to train till it is in the muscle memory. Your reflects will automatically act that way even you fight cowboy and you say silat won't work but they created silat for war, even now in some military they still practice basic silat. imagine that.
not all the training looks practical but it is part of the "training".
it is all about your determination, hard work, etc, etc...
@Aiden Fisher i dont, like i mentioned above > just an opinion. Totally forgotten about this comment, dont really care bout anymore.
Only cn be use in movie
I would love to see you tap my roundhouse kick. I'm staying in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
hahahaha lol hammer fist to stop a kick? Cool story bro... a proper Thai kick will slam into your arms so fast that you only have time to block.. you don’t have time to hammer fist it.. stupid
hahahaha you would get a dead arm if the kick is done hard and fast.. you can also fake to a head kick and this Silat fraud would get ko-ed
hahahaha you can find so many Thai kick boxers breaking arms with round house kicks even when their arms are in the stationary guard.. yet you believe that bringing your arms into the force of such kicks is the right method to go! Hahaha
hahahaha funny lol.. by the way I spoke to the owner of this channel and he said that these moves are “ just for fun moves “ and not meant to be realistic .. so hahahaha !
Just come visit our training camp and we can demonstrate realistically instead of backlashing with words.
man with silat practical will not use hand block if have a kick, they will be a use the power for take down...its fatal block cause thats happened with my hand

Poor recording. There is way too much Noise in the background!!
You can only master the art if you learn how to stop time
Great tutorial but laughing sound coming from back is annoying me😂
A hammer fist wouldn't work against seasoned Muay Thai fighters. You would break your hands/wrists.
But his foot work and movement is pretty logical. Could work against someone untrained
You‘re a Muay Thai fighter?
Tomoi or Muay Thai hahaha ........it's not Martial arts ...
You must not have seen him break coconuts with his bare hands or take full power strikes..
Do you know silat and muay thai is just neighbour country.. They are in war about 100 years ... Langkasuka and siam .. There is no winner in silat or muay thai...
You don't see it....U should look again. It's in the stepping. Look closer...
Very nice !
Nice but needs some updating. Still not realistic enough. With some work it can definitely be useful
The goldern standard is can you make it work in sparring agasint a skilled opponent? And can you teach a beginner to make it work in sparring too? Those are the traits of the best combat arts
lol go somewhere else if that's what you like to see
Ritmo Nak lol so you’d like to see unrealistic moves ? lol
Lol combat art??. That one is killing art. Silat never give one chance let go.
Emir EC this video is short and thus is lacking all the necessary move or action against an enemy or enemies. My best word for today- see the silat master and join in their school or club or whatever.
remember, real fight is WAYYY NASTIER and chaotic, always expect to get hurt
Sorry man when you editing a video don't stay near the camera chatting is annoying trying to understand the tips with a noisy background chattering
Adam, you've been Mauled!😅
Wish fight is always choreographed that way I always come on top 'no.
If you look closely, it's not about choreograph. It's about limiting the opponent 's movements that it suits your anticipation, in other words; trapping the opponent so his counter attacks will be his own demise.
@Aidan Fisher I otherwise believes your comment proves of your ignorance aswell as arrogance due to your narrow understanding of the art.
@Aidan Fisher i noticed this reply of yours on other posts and videos copy-pasted with a little edits by you aswell.
I have also read some valid arguments and replies from others that you didn't bother to consider, so I see there is no need for me to answer anymore of your questions.
I can only assume you are a dedicated warrior of the board.
Use the third eye must be developed
i asked sifu ig he had sparring footage. he called me fat, old, and bald. the opponent doesnt magically freeze after the first punch....he also benefits from footwork, feints, combos, and probably has set up the kick with a one two jab cross.

Not if there conditioned. But I would not recommend this for unconditioned arms. Lol
It’s just so much easier to move the body in the same arc as the kick so it has no power. Trying to control the kick just isn’t reliable.
Massallah
No such thing as tapping out on the street so I hope you are right.
but in here indonesia , a guy who know silat killed 2 bandit's with knife at street with bare hand, just check our recent news.. fyi

Its pretty hard coz every single silat is meant to disable the opponent, eye gouging, low blow, fishhook..silat is not meant for sports, its born out of jungle warfare and tribal royal rumble..if there is no rules whatsoever in UFC i will definitely bet on any mediocre silat practitioner
