Hannibal is not your average sociopath or psychopath. He's capable of feeling love, betrayal, compassion, etc. He genuinely cared for Abigail. Though of her as a daughter and kindred spirit. But Hannibal also has extreme self-control to separate his love from the actions he feels or thinks he must do. Hannibal does things for no less than 5 to 10 reasons at a time. Amusement and curiosity are among the most recurring. He wants to completely understand the human condition and himself. The only way to do that, in his eyes, is by experimenting and seeing what happens. Very deep and nuanced character
I think people don't know what a 'normal sociopath/ psychopath' even is tbh. The disproportionate number of them in forensic psychiatry research and in criminal system and in the media makes people think the 'normal psychopath/ sociopath' is a coldblooded killer. We don't know that. I knew a diagnosed sociopath once. They weren't a bad person imo. Most ppl get diagnosed with ASPD after some kind of incident (typically an arrest). If someone with ASPD never does that they could go through life entirely undetected and seemingly 'normal'. But afaik (they never fully disclosed what happened) the inciting incident for my friend involved a known child predator that had already hurt them trying to traffic their little sister. I find myself hard pressed to say i'd have done any different. I guess the difference must've been in the degree of planning and disregard for empathy. My point is i guess that perhaps we might prejudge some people before they've ever actually done any crime i guess.
@@felixhenson9926If I ever get a criminal record, I’ll be sure to use the paedophile vigilante card ‘cause a lot of people seem to be quite receptive to that reasoning ✍🏻
@@felixhenson9926 my husband has aspd and tbh he just comes off like someone who gave themselves autism through substance abuse... like that's the best way I can describe it. He just also hates authority and doesn't understand the social trust agreement. He gets almost no reward chem release from something you or I might, and so he thrill seeks. He has shallow emotions, and only one at a time. He has to mirror someone until he knows them and can curate a persona around their preferences, but will only do so if they have something he wants (networking opportunities, social status, financial resources, etc.) He doesn't have it in him to be violent because he simply doesn't care enough about other people to hold a grudge or mess his life plan up in a way that could be permanent. He can love others as an extension of himself, and we only work because of my schizoid PD but that's honestly the most "traditionally sociopathic" thing about him. He's not very hollywood, he's not charming or suave or quietly intimidating. I think we probably meet "everyday" aspds all the time and just think they might be on the spectrum because we don't know any better.
You’d think Will was always popping meds for his mental state… but, nope! Aspirin! For many episodes now… perhaps since episode 4 when his brain started getting all firey and he started getting all sweaty and sleepwalky. Also note how much Will drinks, likely to self-medicate for the hallucinations and/or super empathy 👀 Also, who would even prescribe him meds? Hannibal. And Hannibal wanted to see this play out. So, even if he had given him some pills, they probably would’ve been just aspirin or something as well 🙃
Yay!!! The music in this show really is shockingly good, isn't it. Interesting to finally find out what the clock test is for - I don't know if the show ever *actually* said. I'm now scared to try it.
Thanks so much! I have the whole series at home on DVD. It's just so amazing! I'm still mad it's not continued but Hugh and Mads are so so awesome and so are your reactions.
I get so excited to see these videos pop up! I really hope you do continue to make videos about this series because I'd love to hear what you have to say about later episodes 👀👀👀
This was a lot of fun to watch. Great insights and wonderful to hear a psychiatrists' perspective! Subscribed in hopes of seeing you continue with season 2 - my absolute favorite season of tv ever.
The tunnel vision thing regarding diagnosis is frustrating. Radiating pain from the back down the leg, you think 'lower back' but now and then it's actually the leg and you've wasted time & pain for the patient...
I have a lot of favorite moments with Hannibal the one where he thought will was dead and realizes that he's still alive he's the relief in his eyes was real. And the one where Alana charges Hannibal to say will like he said he would. And then she lets him go from Mason verger😅 Alana understood Wheels obsession with Hannibal. And so did not want to be an enabler but you know what do you do😅 Finally wrath of the Lamb😅😅😅 do the entire episode is the reason why I love it😅😅❤❤
Bugger - did you have to recommend a book...now that acts as a stimulus to my curiosity and urge to buy/read it! (Any other books you recommend? I recall buying "The Devil You Know" the same day you mentioned it many videos back, - great read.
I stopped watching Hannibal at the end of season one (loved the slow character study stuff, just couldn't handle the cannibalism), so I look forward to vicariously watching the later seasons (when you get to it in like five years, jks jks)
Brain on Fire is amazing, and the movie is even better. Please watch it next, because it gave me some post-traumatic healing to realize I wasn’t at fault for my sister’s mental breakdowns and the trauma it caused me as a child.
This was an irritating episode due to such short clips and extensive and elaborate discussion for each. I much prefer your reaction videos with less disjointed pacing and more consolidated commentary. Thank you for being receptive to audience comments, and for providing this entertaining discussion series.
What are the odds he would react to an episode of The Sopprano's? Half of the every episode was spent in Dr. Melfi's office. Plus the benefit of hindsight in the practice after twenty years.
BABE WAKE UP DR ELLIOT DROPPED A NEW HANNIBAL REACTION 🤭🤭
I can’t wait until you get to the S2 finale if you keep up with the series
Thank you, Doc!
When the teacup shatters... 😥
I’m gonna scream at his reaction for the season 3 finale. Love crime ifykyk
Looking forward to it!!!!

Been waiting for more Hannibal reactions! So much deception and manipulation makes for a lot to talk about. Thank you!
The way I literally "EEEEKED!" out loud at seeing a new Hannibal Reaction. Love these. 💖
Appreciate your inputs from a professional point of view, and happy that you enjoy the show. I love the show too

Every time you react to Hannibal I feel the need to rewatch season 1 (at least) all over again.
I love your insightful analysis of Hannibal. It’s worth the wait
I just love Hannibal's little smug smile at the end. He is so dang happy to see Will in prison. 😁
Yay!!!
The music in this show really is shockingly good, isn't it.
Interesting to finally find out what the clock test is for - I don't know if the show ever *actually* said. I'm now scared to try it.

Isn’t the c in Encephalitis pronounced like an “s” not like a “k”? Or is it like a British thing.
Either is fine, it was originally a k though, from the Ancient Greek "enképhalos"
Quase não entendo o que é dito mas adoro esse canal
Continua assistindo sem parar coisas em inglês que você gosta! Vai aprender a falar inglês como eu 😊
It's jank o'clock.
Second season videos please!!!
Coming soon(ish)
Have you read much Oliver Sacks?
Brain on Fire is amazing, and the movie is even better. Please watch it next, because it gave me some post-traumatic healing to realize I wasn’t at fault for my sister’s mental breakdowns and the trauma it caused me as a child.

I’m just going to say it: I think Hannibal should lose his medical license
I've given it a lot of thought and you might be onto something...
Reaction on death note?
When are we gonna get Archer Dyrastic voyage part 2?
Pleaseeee watch Supernatural. The codependency between the two main characters is so interesting.
