  • Volcanic activity along the western edge of the Pacific “Ring of Fire” gave rise to a tiny island in late November 2013. Located in the Ogasawara Islands, part of the Volcano Islands arc, the new islet sits about 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) south of Tokyo in waters considered part of Japanese territory.
On request i made some adjustments (history in the beginning) with extra information and i edited a Voice over to the video. I hope you like it. It gives more information than the text. Subtitles are provided as well.
This movie shows how the island evolved from 2013 until 2021 where 2020 was a year of great volcanic activity and great footage in the movie. All of course with maps, small timelapses and o lot of explainer texts. The lightning footage at the end is most spectacular.
Suggestions on making it better are welcome and I could do more explainer texts in images if that is usefull. Even found some material from 1973 which I could put in which shows the birth of the predecessor island. The island or pre island was first discovered in the early 18th centrury.
Credits go the Japanese Coastguard as almost all the material comes from them.

It is very interesting. Thank you.
It's really more convenient to watch with voice overlay 👍🏻

Thank-you for the updates, and for all of the time and effort you spent to make this video, and then to improve it. If you can use a human voice it would encourage even more people to watch and listen to the information which you are presenting.
Are you planning any updates over the next few years? We would like to see what happens, while the island continues to grow. 🙂

It’s crazy to think that most volcanic islands, some of which are very large and tall started out similar to this. It’s a very fast growing island too, quite an active volcano clearly.

In the coming years there will be major eruptions on the island and it will grow again. Some minor have been there the last few months. When it happens a new video on the growth will be placed here
