Definitely getting a NATO again, I stopped wearing mine because I hated the bulk on the outside no matter how much i tried to convince myself it was cool
That's a Vostok Komandirskie! It's a Russian watch from a brand started in the Soviet Union. If you are interested, check out their Amphibia watches, which are water resistant and made out of stainless steel (mine is cheaper and is made out of brass). They cost around 100usd and are a good value in my opinion. Many claim the quality has gotten worse in the last years, so you might find a good deal on an older one second hand, which is why I did. Mine costed 20usd!!
Criticism of the NATO strap is totally unjustified. Cutting the extra strap defeats the purpose of keeping the watch away from the wrist to allow ventilation and lessen sweating. Also the watch can be stowed by reverse looping and it provides substantial cover for the front and back of the watch when kept with other items in the bag or pocket. It's the ultimate utilitarian strap.
I haven't used my nato straps long enough for that to be a problem. Maybe you can fix it with heat, but you could easily damage the strap by accident, so I don't really know...

I recently got a NATO strap for a Vostok my father brought back for me from Kiev in the late 1990s.
Nice to have it back in service.
Wow it's awesome that you can now wear and enjoy his watch!
Good point about using shoulderless spring bars to avoid chafing NATO straps.
It's as close as you can get to fixed spring bars without having actual fixed spring bars haha
Interesting! I never even thought about this. Very cool, now I can wear it two ways :D thanks mate!
I happen to be wearing my nato strap in this configuration as I watch this.
I like the style of the video and will try the method. The SKX is such a beauty
I like this method but those extra holes punch on the inner side of the wrist annoys me so i ordered few nato which comes with less hole punches.
That’s a badass watch. The one with the Anchor. What brand is that?

That's exactly what I do, but I don't cut anything. 😂
One of those is a nato and one is a zulu. The zulu has the extra piece that helps lock the watch into place a bit better. The nato is a single strap.
WHAT??? this is brilliant!
It really is! I prefer this so much over the conventional way. Shout out to the guy who came up with it and shared it!

This is how I wear them too
what about fraying of the holes ? any recommendations ?

The black strap is better because there's no spring bar on the buckle.
I hate leather straps because they smell when you sweat in the summer.
Military don't frick around, well mine (😌) don't 😌
Loose the heavy bracelets and enjoy the freedom of the NATO strap of your choice.
🙌
You're wearing your nato strap the WRONG way
How do you know?
Thank you. This help me so much. My wrist feel more comfortable.⏱❤
