@@ericpelky1246 it's because 24 hour racing needs a balance between power and reliability, and this was 24H Le Mans in the 90s. The Mclaren F1 GTR won Le Mans overall with that HP, beating even the prototype-class cars.
This car was running 2nd overall at the 1997 Le Mans 24 hour race at on point sadly it crashed out it had the potential to be the best placed McLaren F1 GTR at that race therefore this cars only success was the Silver-stone round of the 1997 British GT Championship where it won albeit in the colors of Parabolica Motorsport.

Shifting on this F1 is a challenge because Gordon Murray insisted on the sequential gearbox being opposite. Forward gears push forward and downshifting by pulling back. The normal sequential is pull back to upshift and push forward to downshift
thats just amazing. the chasis design is tune for the desire track. you can design it with braking aid and high corner or you can design it for low speed corner and no braking assist.
You can see the sense of honor on his facial expression and hear that he didn't come to Le Mans that year just for the pleasure of taking part in it. MEGA Driver..

He was saying what a hard time he was having reprogramming his brain, having been driving a normal sequential box in the NSX for so long. That's why Tsuchiya was short shifting the first sets of laps - he was afraid of accidentally downshifting close to redline which would blow the engine. I give him a lot of credit for learning a habitual action backwards and being expected to set a competitive lap time in the span of probably a weekend.
awesome stuff here... also this is the first sequential i've seen that shifts up by pushing the stick forward instead of pulling it back, i'd be so worried about shifting the wrong way out of habit lol
Did he compare the F1 to a really powerful NSX? If so he'd be right, apart from the centered driving position, and that howling BMW engine. So much respect for him as a driver!

It is meant to be the feel and drivability of an NSX with technology and materials taken absolutely as far as they can go, no compromises. He also intended it to have a Honda v10, but BMW beat Honda to the punch.

McLaren F1 had a BMW big block V12 engine that was developed from a real Formula 1 engine that eventually won LeMans in 95 and 99. The new Supra has a BMW Z4 small block engine.
Because as he was learning the car and going slower than track pace, he knew that other cars at race pace could be coming up on him at any time. He wasn't alone on the track, we just didn't see any shots of other cars coming up on him. Being a good racing driver, especially a mixed class racing driver, means having constant track awareness and not getting in the way of faster cars. Unless you're driving LMP1, there's always a bigger fish.

ルマンも凄いんだけど本当は97年のJGTCでF1を走らせてる土屋さんを見てみたかった感はある。現役時代中々マシンの運に恵まれなかったイメージがあるから勝てるマシンで走って欲しかったな、、、

96年JGTCに参戦した時は、過酷なイジメにあって(ブレーキローターの材質変更から、最終的にはエンジンのデチューンまで)それでも国産車勢は勝てず、そのショックから今でもGT500に外国車を入れないよう手を替え品を替え締め出しをしている
来期からGT500はDTMとほぼ同じ車両になるが、もしアウディやBMWが参戦しようとしたら果たしてどうなることやら・・・
そして数年w…DTMはGT3マシン(GT300相当)に移行しちゃいましたからねぇ…
GT500が2リッターターボの市販車の皮を被ったFRフォーミュラまま…もう走らせる意味が不明確な気がするなぁ…

That shifter is so freaking weird. Pushing up is Upshift and pulling down is Downshift. I wonder why it wasn't the other way around.
