Yeah that’s one thing. The Pocket 3 does seem delicate. It’s DJI’s third time doing a gimbal camera and they’ve got experience with gimbals, so maybe it’s not as delicate as we think. But in comparison to an all weather action camera it does seem delicate.
I chose the Pocket 3 after weeks of watching reviews and have absolutely no regrets in picking the pocket 3. The ease of use and image quality is awesome and I feel the Ace pro image looks too processed.
3:10 The Pocket 3 doesn't have a mode labeled "HDR" but it does have an HLG color profile which IS HDR. If you take some unedited footage recorded in HLG from the Pocket 3 and upload it straight to UA-cam, it'll be in HDR.
Hi Zander, just to note that the Pocket 3 does have HDR. It’s the HLG 10-bit colour profile. It’s correct HDR and will be recognised as HDR by other devices like monitors, iPhone etc.
I agree, love the pocket 3 ! The image is “softer” and slightly brighter and looks more cinematic to me, if you will . I’m saving money and hopefully will purchase soon.
I dont know if its the same sensor but for me having a dji mini 4pro already, I feel it makes sense to have the pocket 3 so all the footage has the same look to it.
When you said both videos looks great ¿?¿?¿?¿What¿? To my eyes, the results are so different. One is over sharpened, too orange, it has barrel distortion, and eve your face is not well focused.

DJI Action 4 and the Ace Pro both use the same exact image sensor. So images from both will look fairly similar. The differences will be in how each camera deals with the processing of the images.

Pocket 3 (for gimbal B-roll work so I don have to bring a large gimbal for my mirrorless camera) + Insta360 Go 3 (on my chest and weird places for different POV) + Insta360 X3 (used the extended poll and attacked to my backpack for 3rd person POV) + Sony a7IV & ZVE1 for better quality video work for me.
oh man, how I hate that choppy movement of the cars at 2:15 on the pocket 3. Is that due to youtube or the camera? On smartphones, I see cameras try too hard to do too much at once and they can't do the one thing they're supposed to do well, which is take smooth video. This shows underpowered or unoptimized i/o. I concerned the pocket 3 might have this same issue with the choppy motion.
I have a GoPro 12 and I love it. I just got it for my bday. I must admit, though, I do want the pocket 3. And the insta ace pro looks great, especially in low light. I do notice that these action cams like GoPro and insta are over sharpened, especially on skin. Any thoughts on how to fix that?
If you are in an urban environment, POCKET 3 = MOST HAVE ..... blur background means faces, license plates and other things that may need an image release in USA because youtube videos are FOR PROFIT. I have a GoPro and have to make sure that nobody is behind me because everything is in perfect focus.
Im looking for something to use for vlogging while hiking. Im leaning towards the Pocket 3. I had a GoPro and didn't like it. A few things I'm iffy with... - What if its raining, a light shower, or snowing? I cant use the Pocket 3? - How long do the batteries last? Id like to use it in below freezing weather (-10, -20, -30C) - Lav mic. I don't want to be using that all the time, would rather use built in mic.
I agree, I’m filming hikes/camping videos of me and my kids and dog. I currently shoot with the insta360 GO3. But I’m on the look for a second camera and initially wanted nothing but the osmo pocket 3. However, since using the GO 3regularly for a while now… I’m starting to realise the action cam features is necessary, albeit less sexy than pocket 3 features. I’ve needed to shoot 1 handed in rain, crossing rivers, I’ve placed it in trees to get shots of myself, I’ve dropped it a bunch of times and I think it’s great I’ve able to bring it along adventures on a lanyard around my neck 😂. I know the pocket 3 is a 1 handed device also, but getting it in and out of my pocket would need 2 hands because of the housing, having to put it back in its little case after every recording has got to be a faff. Also a bit annoying that I still have to store the housing in my pocket when filming. I really wanted the osmo because of the foreground/background separation, but actually I’ve managed to get accidental natural cute clips of my kids in the background on my GO3 and I’m grateful they haven’t been bokeh’d. Also, another thing I’ve thought is that because I’m hiking and travelling to all these different places, i want the environment included in the shots more often than I’m willing to admit. I think Zander is right, I think I’d worry about the osmo a lot more, and if I was to have both, when push comes shove, I’d just grab the ace pro over the osmo just in case it: rains, we go to the beach, we’re going in the sea, I need more battery life, we go somewhere where it would die if I dropped it etc etc. as much as I convince myself I can just bring all my cameras to have all scenarios covered, the reality is, I carry a lot of children’s crap, and the dog is on the lead, and the less camera equipment/accessories the better. But at the same time, the osmo is so cool 😂😅 if you got it in the end and can de-bunk any of my concerns, feel free to convince me to get it 😂 sorry that was a whole bunch of info you didn’t ask for but no one in my life has interest in photography/videography so I talk to people on UA-cam instead 🤣
Amazing side by side comparison. Really appreciate all the subjects you covered. You mentioned you use both cameras and enjoy them for different purposes. May I ask, what editing software you use to combine the camera files in post production? I use Davinci for the Osmo Pocket but I wasn't sure if it is possible to have insta360 and other files inside the same editor. (I do see that you have footage from both in this video so I'm assuming it is possible) This is just in case someone films using both devices.
Both are different classification of camera, it is really down to personal application, for active rugged outdoor lifestyle goes to the ace pro (grab and record), for best video creativity (flexibility cinematography or standard video application, vlogging, urban travel, better image quality and much more) the Pocket 3 (recommended for equipment friendly user “prep, set and record”).

Have you not read the manual for the Pocket 3? Almost everything you've said has a fix or a setting... You've basically said that the Ace Pro doesn't have any drawbacks and it's superior to the Pocket 3 in every way... As if the P3 doesn't possess any features the Ace Pro doesn't have....
It depends. With the Ace Pro you can be relaxed because it is much more resistant, so you can do lots of things that you can’t with a pocket 3 (water, rain, sport, rollercoaster, …). With the Pocket 3 you can do calm creative shots (bokeh, gimbal automatic movement). The best would be able to have both.
Nice video, What I’ve noticed with the people who are using the ace, pro for Vlogging is in the evening time you can see the red flashing light from the front part of the camera on their face flashing is there anyway to turn that red light off?

man, I'm so torn apart I do hear all the arguments about the insta360 pro, and I would like a nice small camera to complement my GH4 for vlogging for 3 years ( so better be durable ), but that image quality on the pocket 3 though, so outstanding for that size...
I'm asking myself the same questions as I have a gh6. I think it really depend if you need to use it in bad weather conditions, underwater and extreme sports or not. Because if we simply look for the image quality, the pocket 3 is the best, especially when there's less light. The pocket 3 is more fragile but the lens of the Ace pro isn't removable. .I'm interested by both too but as I don't have a stabilizer with my gh6 because it's too big, i think i'll go with the pocket 3.

Show me the gimbal set up for the Ace pro as there lie’s the rub of the green. A true comparison should have been between the DJI action 4 and the insta Ace Pro. This is an unfair comparison due to the ease of use. 99% of vlogging is close up filming through city streets etc.
Pocket 3 is good in low lights. But for filming yourself... too much face in the picture. And I prefer watching what's happens on the background. Pocket makes a blur which is not always good. And not wide enough.
In your conclusion, you only raised the Cons of the Pocket 3 and the Pros of the Insta Ace Pro. Does this mean that there are no Pros for the Pocket 3 and no Cons for the Ace Pro?
Pocket 3 is far better for Vlogging, have better bokeh and more natural. Pocket 3 have 10 bit, that makes it much better for post production. But for action, Insta360 is better
Stop making out that the Pocket 3 is a damn action camera... Sorry but it is just a dumb comparison. Next to that pocket 3 has enough things onboard to go into your complaints. Complaining about battery changes but in the end the ace doesn't come with any extra batteries...
I have both. This review is not fair, not honest at all. Didn't mention the features what only pocket 3 can do only the disadvantages. In low light acepro so much worst than pocket 3. Unusable. Better in low light than the terrible gopro but pocket 3 is far better. Also "forgott" to mention that for vlogging acepro is not good choice because its minimal focus distance is too big. You need to use it with extended arm. Pocket 3 is great in this. So I guess it is an insta360 paid advertisment.
Great review as always. I have both of them and they are different tools in the toolbox. I like setting the pocket 3 down and the face tracking will follow me as I vlog. The Ace Pro is great because of the editing you can do with the 360 app. One question, how do you get the Ace Pro to see the DJI mic 2? The bluetooth in my camera doesn't recognize it. I am a dji hater and I must say the Pocket 3 video looked better in almost all situations you were in and the shadows on your face and sky were better than the Insta. I understand your choice overall and yes, the Insta, like GoPro will take a beating and work well. So if you compromise a bit on the quality of the pic, then you made the right choice. I don't have either camera so I have no dog in this fight.
Ace pro is for sure nicer and safer to use whatever the weather but if the goal is image quality the 1-inch sensor makes all the difference. Same happens when comparing insta360 X3 vs Insta360 Rs 1-inch: the first is nicer to use but the latter is way better in terms of quality due the 1-inch sensor. In video/photography the size of the sensor still matters...
some very interesting thoughts there. i would say the ace pro looks amazing, and that low light is phenomenal. considering we have so many months of grey and very low light, that is a big plus, i like the idea you can pause the recording then start, or combine clips - how easy is that? a tutorial on combining/pausing clips and exporting to our editing software would be cool - cos you do tutorials so well.
I have one and it’s very easy: - you pause and keep recording as on Android phones - you can the AI select the highlights or manually and then you can cut and export the highlights as a combined movie - the insta360 software (I use it on my iPhone 15 Pro Max) is fabulous!!! A free edit suit! And with the iPhone 15 Pro chip…wow super fast! I would even say that an Adobe Premiere Pro would take 5x longer on a much more powerful hardware to do the same vi (yes, I hate Adobe software)
@@Steal_exthe Ace Pro allows you to do it internally if you want just the highlights on a video. But if you want to cut and join different files, then you have to use other software.
@@Steal_ex for the same reason laptop and desktop sales have been declining: controls on smartphones and tablets have improved greatly so I don’t need for personal private videos to edit them on a PC. If I can afford a iPhone 15 Pro Max, it’s very unlikely that I can’t afford a PC.
@@Steal_ex why would I do such a thing? Anyone doing any cut and paste will have lousy sound and joining points. The best to do is to edit them on a software that handles all formats. Cut, join, transitions, soundtrack, drive
Yes mate video coming soon, the editing tool in camera is more geared towards saving space on your storage, it allows you to save clips within a clip and either export them individually or as a merged clip, what you do with them after that is entirely up to you. yes, agreed, I love Ace Pro all focus shot and also it shows more clarity too on grass patches and clouds, the colour may be over saturated compared to Pocket 3, I love its ease of use in video recording I supposed Ace pro the steadyflow produces more steady video short vs the mechanically driven gimbal in Pocket 3, good if we have a comparison on that. share if you have done so. Ace Pro is proven to be a better buy and maintaince for the replacable battery, water proof feature etc.., less fragile.. thanks for your great presentation, very informative.

Like I said, it’s my opinion when you use these cameras every day for me the Ace pro is just nicer to use, even if the image isn’t quite as pleasing

Why don't you use face tracking and set your gimbal speed? Ace pro is way too sharp and over saturated

Pocket 3 is best as an indoor camera. Away from the elements. Very prone to blowing out in bright sunlight.
Just use an ND filter no problem.

LOL, then don't reduce sharpening. I shoot in low sharpening mode, the details are still great. Not sure what you're doing wrong.

The colors in Insta look a bit unrealistic, especially skin tones !!
In your conclusion, you only raised the Cons of the Pocket 3 and the Pros of the Insta Ace Pro. Does this mean that there are no Pros for the Pocket 3 and no Cons for the Ace Pro?

Pocket 3 is far better for Vlogging, have better bokeh and more natural. Pocket 3 have 10 bit, that makes it much better for post production. But for action, Insta360 is better

Stop making out that the Pocket 3 is a damn action camera... Sorry but it is just a dumb comparison. Next to that pocket 3 has enough things onboard to go into your complaints. Complaining about battery changes but in the end the ace doesn't come with any extra batteries...

I have both. This review is not fair, not honest at all. Didn't mention the features what only pocket 3 can do only the disadvantages.
In low light acepro so much worst than pocket 3. Unusable. Better in low light than the terrible gopro but pocket 3 is far better. Also "forgott" to mention that for vlogging acepro is not good choice because its minimal focus distance is too big. You need to use it with extended arm. Pocket 3 is great in this. So I guess it is an insta360 paid advertisment.

Ace pro better
Great review as always. I have both of them and they are different tools in the toolbox. I like setting the pocket 3 down and the face tracking will follow me as I vlog. The Ace Pro is great because of the editing you can do with the 360 app. One question, how do you get the Ace Pro to see the DJI mic 2? The bluetooth in my camera doesn't recognize it. Thanks again for all the content you put up on UA-cam.

I am a dji hater and I must say the Pocket 3 video looked better in almost all situations you were in and the shadows on your face and sky were better than the Insta. I understand your choice overall and yes, the Insta, like GoPro will take a beating and work well. So if you compromise a bit on the quality of the pic, then you made the right choice. I don't have either camera so I have no dog in this fight.
Ace pro is for sure nicer and safer to use whatever the weather but if the goal is image quality the 1-inch sensor makes all the difference. Same happens when comparing insta360 X3 vs Insta360 Rs 1-inch: the first is nicer to use but the latter is way better in terms of quality due the 1-inch sensor. In video/photography the size of the sensor still matters...
some very interesting thoughts there. i would say the ace pro looks amazing, and that low light is phenomenal. considering we have so many months of grey and very low light, that is a big plus, i like the idea you can pause the recording then start, or combine clips - how easy is that? a tutorial on combining/pausing clips and exporting to our editing software would be cool - cos you do tutorials so well.
I have one and it’s very easy:
- you pause and keep recording as on Android phones
- you can the AI select the highlights or manually and then you can cut and export the highlights as a combined movie
- the insta360 software (I use it on my iPhone 15 Pro Max) is fabulous!!! A free edit suit! And with the iPhone 15 Pro chip…wow super fast! I would even say that an Adobe Premiere Pro would take 5x longer on a much more powerful hardware to do the same vi (yes, I hate Adobe software)
@@Steal_exthe Ace Pro allows you to do it internally if you want just the highlights on a video. But if you want to cut and join different files, then you have to use other software.
@@Steal_ex for the same reason laptop and desktop sales have been declining: controls on smartphones and tablets have improved greatly so I don’t need for personal private videos to edit them on a PC. If I can afford a iPhone 15 Pro Max, it’s very unlikely that I can’t afford a PC.
@@Steal_ex why would I do such a thing? Anyone doing any cut and paste will have lousy sound and joining points. The best to do is to edit them on a software that handles all formats. Cut, join, transitions, soundtrack, drive
Yes mate video coming soon, the editing tool in camera is more geared towards saving space on your storage, it allows you to save clips within a clip and either export them individually or as a merged clip, what you do with them after that is entirely up to you. I’ll be doing that video hopefully before Christmas, thanks mate 👌
yes, agreed, I love Ace Pro all focus shot and also it shows more clarity too on grass patches and clouds, the colour may be over saturated compared to Pocket 3, I love its ease of use in video recording I supposed Ace pro the steadyflow produces more steady video short vs the mechanically driven gimbal in Pocket 3, good if we have a comparison on that. share if you have done so. Ace Pro is proven to be a better buy and maintaince for the replacable battery, water proof feature etc.., less fragile.. thanks for your great presentation, very informative.
