I was screwing around for 2 hours and cussing up a storm trying to get that doggone bolt back in without jacking up the recoil spring. After watching your video, I got everything back together in less than 5 minutes without damaging the spring. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thanks for this video. I reference it every time I clean mine. I decided to go ahead an order another recoil spring. I figure it’s just a matter of time before I’ll need one anyways and for the price of the rifle, it’s worth it to keep it running.
I just took down my RS22 for the first time and I watched several videos, including this one before I began. I really surprised myself with how smooth everything went, including taking that spring out and then replacing it, without damage to this spring. I did have a spare spring which I purchased from Mcarbo just in case I bent that spring but everything went so smooth that I was shocked at myself. I did Improvise slightly when taking out and then replacing this guide rod & spring but It worked for me without a problem. I think the key to doing this was for me to really take my time and not to panic or get frustrated! I now have confidence and I will take apart and clean my gun more often and I always have that Spare Spring, Just In Case! Ha Ha!
Very helpful advice! I didnt realize before hand how finicky it was, large guntubers make things seem to easy sometimes lol not that its overly complicated either. Some of us are just regular guys who dont spend all their time dismantling guns like those guys though so thank you sir!
A big help. I was having a lot of trouble re-assembling it as the buffer kept falling out. Putting the back end in first and lining it up before pulling the charging handle fixed this problem. Thanks a bunch. That one trick alone made the time well spent watching this video.
Was very helpful and taught me that I don't want to disassemble this too often!! I am not the most mechanically inclined but was able to eventually figure it out. Nice gun.
Great video, thank you sir. Had watched another video and those instructions caused me to bend the recoil spring. This looks a lot easier. Just waiting on replacement spring.
Thanks for the video. I recently bought a RS22M. Instructions say to clean it so I did and experienced the same ordeal with the spring. I kinked it a bit getting it back in. M-Carbo sales the RS22 spring but does not list the RS22M spring. They look the same but my guess is that they are a different stiffness. The Rossi site lists the charging handle for RS22M for $4 but it's currently out of stock. The rifle has never been fired, too cold to go to the range. I will use your technique next time. Thanks
Cool video i hate them spring set ups like that all they need to do is have a screw in that hole that you can back out to put the spring in and then tighten it back up when its in
There is a video on YT showing another takedown procedure though, Its been a year or so since I've looked it up. His way was slick to. Either way, thank you! Hopefully , I won't need M-Carbo again however, I do like their stickers & service! They are a awesome company! They also sell a lightened trigger spring also, there is another recoil buffer that has 2 knubs that supposedly helps. I have 1 but, Idk?🎉
I bent my spring also I tried to put the bolt and the trigger group in as one unit instead of the bolt first all the way back then dropping the trigger group in
Any advice how to lock the pins back into place mine wont for some reason they easily come out but been having the same problem putting them back in after cleaning
No, sorry, I'd thought about this for a while, and the only thing I can say is that the pins shouldn't walk on you after the gun is assembled. The only fix I can come up with, is to make new pins out of brass, or if you can, use the warranty to replace the gun, in a worst case scenario.
It shouldn't stop the gun from working, put it together slowly as to make sure the pins don't slide, it should hold together when assembled. Just watch out for them falling upon the next takedown.
Like any other Gun you clean, just use a solvent to remove any dirt and grime, then wipe it down to remove loose dirt! after it seems clean to you, then put a very thin layer of a quality gun oil on moving parts that run against each other to prevent friction and prevent abnormal ware. That's it in a nut shell!
Yes, occasionally. When I shoot a LOT of lead round nose ammo without cleaning it, it won't go all the way in to battery sometimes. After cleaning the gun good, it works perfectly again. Every once in a while ,it will fail to feed, about every 300 rounds or so. Sometimes no hangups for 1000 rds. For a 22lr rifle, it's VERY reliable. Again...22lr, not very reliable in general, but this rifle, for what it is, is just awesome! If it wasn't so windy today, I'd literally be out there this minute shooting it. :)
Look for the side of the pins that appear smaller, and maybe rough on the edges, that's the side that comes out first, and the side you hammer back in last. Think of that smaller textured end as.. " first side out, last side back in". Hope it helps..
You don't need to pop them out! Just punch them until you feel resistance and they will stay in during the entire process. This worked for me as I completed the entire process with the two pins almost out and there is enough clearance to pull out the trigger housing! It can work this way!
This is so complicated and chatty as to be useless. A rifle that is so tricky just to get a recoil spring inserted is not worth a $100 price for the annoyance alone. You can end up with the 2 pins out and unable to take the bolt assembly out of the gun and have the charging curved handle loose. And that leaves you to find a gunsmith to disassemble and reassemble the gun with the 2 pins inserted ! I am good at figuring out and fixing things and this is the most annoying gun I ever broke down (of maybe 10-15). Save your $100 and get a gun that can be reassembled without knowing 'tricks'.
You're an DUMBASS. This thing is so easy to take down, just don't lose the f#$%in buffer! Try to take down a savage and tell us how fun THAT was... twit.
It is really Not Complicated at all and the key is to go slow and follow the steps shown on this video and also on other videos and use them as a guide. Take your time and don't panic but do go slowly for the first time and you won't have any problems!

Glad to help!
Hey thanks for the video. I ended up kinking my spring the first time around. This really helped me not mess it up a second time.

Thanks, you stopped me from launching the entire rifle through a wall. So much for learning things by doing them.
Better technique to remove the recoil spring than some other videos. Thx
Was very helpful and taught me that I don't want to disassemble this too often!! I am not the most mechanically inclined but was able to eventually figure it out. Nice gun.
i realize Im kind of randomly asking but does anyone know of a good site to stream new tv shows online ?
@Kolton Turner Meh I watch on flixportal. You can find it on google :) -micah
@Micah Anakin thanks, I went there and it seems to work :D I really appreciate it !
@Kolton Turner Happy to help :D
Great video. Love this rifle, but such a pain to reassemble. Your video saved the day. Thanks.
Great video, thank you sir. Had watched another video and those instructions caused me to bend the recoil spring. This looks a lot easier. Just waiting on replacement spring.
I have the mossberg 702 plinkster, exact same gun with diff stocks. Thank you fritz! Your video helped alot🙂

Thanks so much!!!! Couldn't find the bookmark but always search through all the videos on youtube to find this one!!!!
Thanks so much!!! Earned a like and a subscriber!😊
Thank you sir!!!! I couldn’t get the slide to close and thought it was stuck. You need to pull the hable of the bolt! Did not know

First time I disassembled I went in blind and it went flawless. Second time "I knew what I was doing" and messed up my spring lol
✌
I didn't know Steve's Seagal had a UA-cam channel for guns. Cool
Wow now I see how you jacked up the spring last time damit man
Thank you for the video. I'm wishing I watched it before I kinked my spring! Lol
Great video and yes m-carbo is awesome. Great place for upgrade parts
Nice video. We just unboxed ours and the charging handle is loose. Have you had that problem if so how to tighten it? Or are they designed that way?
Mine does that, it's normal i believe, helps it catch and release the "hold open" .
Mine jiggles a bit, but it's how the gun was out of the box, not a problem so far.
really big help, thanks
Awesome video. A great help
I bent my spring also I tried to put the bolt and the trigger group in as one unit instead of the bolt first all the way back then dropping the trigger group in
have you ever changed the firing pin in one of the 22/410 brazil made combo rossi's
I can't look at this guy without thinking of Will Sasso on Mad TV playing Steven Seagal.
Any advice how to lock the pins back into place mine wont for some reason they easily come out but been having the same problem putting them back in after cleaning

fantastic!
Can I get a link to the rs22 spring I can’t seem to find them. I’m wanting a spare
it's the 702 plinkster spring www.mcarbo.com/store/p/44-Mossberg-Recoil-Spring-Mossberg-702-Plinkster-Mossberg-715T.aspx
Can you do a disassembly of the trigger? i popped mine out like an idiot and can't figure out how to put it back together again!
Go to MCarbo and watch their video on changing the spring
Just bought this for my son damn didn’t know it was such a pain to disassemble
I hate cleaning this gun the springs suck
I'll be Damed if I'm going to let something like a spring & Guide rod keep me from cleaning my gun properly! Take your time and just do it!
Is there a video demoing how to actually clean it?
Like any other Gun you clean, just use a solvent to remove any dirt and grime, then wipe it down to remove loose dirt! after it seems clean to you, then put a very thin layer of a quality gun oil on moving parts that run against each other to prevent friction and prevent abnormal ware. Thanks man ill make sure to give it a real good cleaning
that looks like a Marlin 60 spring and buffer
Thank you Steven seagal
Can’t get my pins to pop out

Doug H. in VA don’t mean to be an “ass” but I think most people watching this video already have the gun
You're an DUMBASS. This thing is so easy to take down, just don't lose the f#$%in buffer! Try to take down a savage and tell us how fun THAT was... twit.
Doug, You're an idiot, that's why you can't manage it. Put your helmet back on, and get back in the corner.
I know it's a bitch but I'll give you $50 for it!
