Most Models Love This Light But Hate The After Effects

- With our upcoming USA workshops, Bec needs additional images for advertising so we did a quick shoot for her to have some new photos to chose from! Ringflash is super simple to use and most models love it because it gives them flawless skin - the only downside is how bright it is and a ring stays in your eye for a long time after the flash goes off.

Great video. The sheet shot of Bec on location was great. The location work is a lot of fun. I was shooting a job recently. Guy says, "you can fix it in post." I reply. "How about we fix it in camera right now, Chief?"
Bec did very well in this shoot, IMHO. we haven’t seen her modelling much in a while. She looked prettier than ever. Thanks!
As usual Peter and Becs makes their photo shoots so much fun, a great learning experience, with amazingly creative and edgy photos. Great job guys! 👍 ❤
Thanks so much!
Thank you, I'm a shooter from SCAD who matured with the photo mag. Stopped shooting in 2003 with the advent of digital crying with the broken heart.
You have given me my desire back.
Thank you thats awesome 🥰
I love the way you interact and work together. Great video as ever. 👏👏
Thank you so much!
Loved the shot in Paris with the sheet. Bec looked lovely in this video and I learned how to eliminate the halo effect! Thanks.
Thank you
whaaaat!??!! you cut off the lowers of Bec’s boots, Noooo 😮not at the knees! Camera club isin’t gonna be happy with this Peter 😜 😉 😅
Dig that Ring flash - Super cool shots!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thank you
Nice video guys, the ring light has always been in my arsenal of lightning, major fashion photographers tool!
This is exceptional with Peter teasing Bec. Great video as normal.
Thank you
Bec getting better with the openings!
I love these so much! In your natural light tutorial vids... which I just watched recently, I learned so so much. I can't wait to try those tips! Thank you folks!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
WOW, love the result, shadow or no shadow! 😄
Thank you! 😊
I just shared this in the USA (on my Socials)... * Welcome to America!
Thanks heaps :)
Amazing, as usual! Loved it all the pics! ❤️
Thanks so much 😊
We can call the ring in the eyes effect "The Manfred Mann Effect" ('Blinded By The Light'). Love your work.
Lol :) thanks heaps
I...love her new boots as well.
love my ringflash! coolest light ever! great video Peter & Bex!
Thanks for watching!
I love when a model doesn’t give up on a look so quickly. So models look at the first shot and says “No, I want to change” or something like that and just quits before giving it a chance.
Yeah Bec is awesome as a model
WOW! What a critically important technique and beautiful results. Bec is amazing.
Thank you so much!
Oh my god, I remember in the 90's when Ring Flash became the thing, then again we have so much control now based on what you showed us in this video Peter Coulson! By the way Sir what will be a good alternative to recreate Ring Light if one does not have one, and is placecing 2 lights at lens level a good alternative?
As you say : Some love, some hate. This is what photography is, to me. I end a liitle book I wrote (2020) with this sentence : "About photography, all is just point(s) of view(s)"
yes exactly 😊
9:18 We are lucky to have the two of you showing us how to take awesome photos with a bit of fun too. Thanks. NYC is just a few hours away from me... but I would only want to say hello, so I won't take a spot from another serious Photographer. I'd love to be a "fly on the wall" though...
Thank you 😊
The Eiffel Tower shot, (which IMO is such a tourist candid shot) compared to that "sheet shot" which is such a nice shot, (shame on you keeping that one almost hidden for us) are such ultimate opposites.
Love the ring-light against the black wall.
Great video, since Bec likes the ring light so much , let's call it a Bec-light so things can become really confusing using a back-light too hehehehe
And again, thanks for sharing !!
Thank you
I would love to see you using a paul c buf abr800 with moon unit 30 in ring flash! I would love to see your reaction to it and see if you like so many others fall in love with that big ring flash light that it produces. Maybe you can make this happen :) Love you guys
Always love this bouncing off each other, shows in the shoot. Great stuff.
Thank you
I have never shot with a ringflash, and the reason is that there are no ringflashes in studios of the city where I live. But still it was a very interesting video to watch. Thanks for it
Thanks for watching
Great photoshoot! Vintage Peter... Cheers! 🥃
Thank you! Cheers!
A gorgeous model,and a awesome photographer,have a great weekend.
Thanks, you too!
No Boston? Come to Boston, I would love to see you guys.
We would love to but we have run out of time this trip :(
those pictures look incredibly good.
Thanks
Bec is the best
Come to Cancun! There are about 2 thousand photographers in the area so there's an audience eager to learn.
We would love to just ran out of time
Peter, if you and Bec haven't already done a video of a fashion shoot using just an Iphone for your camera and available light. Your equipment is very expensive and out of reach of most folks, but virtually everyone uses a phone as a camera and can get some really great pictures if shown how to do it correctly.
Hi Earls we could do that but I don't know what it will achieve, if the lighting is really nice and the models looking amazing it doesn't matter what can we you have in your hand. Check out Nick Knight and his flower photos all shot on an iPhone. ua-cam.com/video/nvaU7rtV9LI/v-deo.html
Bec is hot, and your photography makes her sizzling, Peter. She looks stunning in these photos. On a different note , the last time I used a ring flash was 20 years ago on a little spider. Nowhere as good looking as Bec.
Thanks
I saw the title “Ring Flash” and saw Becs. I opened the vid straight away 😂
So beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
Peter, do you have plans for a workshop in South America in the future?
Yes next year, what city :)
I live in Rio ☀️
ooooo Chicago
Your tour sounds awesome! Did you consider Seattle?
Yes just don't have the time to do anymore cities this year, Seattle next year
Love the outfit Bec! 🥰
Thank you! 😃
Are those augmented ?
Thank you for the instructional exposure...!FRBJR
Thanks :)
Can't wait to see you guys here in LA. Silly question. Is it ok if I shoot with my 500CM Hasselblads ? I love the look of film, I actually modified a 500CM to have two 35mm rolls side by side inside a film back, so the results is a single image going across two films and also going fully across the 4 strips of sprocket holes.
Yes you are welcome to bring the 500cm
Another awesome vid!
Thanks heaps Rick
What ring flash is that? Haven’t seen one like that.
Broncolor
Many thanks for this new backstage session, I didn’t expect to have a new video so quick, to be honest. This is great! I will need to review the notifications for UA-cam in my smartphone, I should have been told much earlier about this video.

@Bec: It is always a pleasure to see you as a Model, that you are happy and you can laugh. I like a lot your high heels because it emphasises your vertical silhouette. You cannot image the envy I feel when you mention workshops, knowing that you will be a Model for the photographers that will attend them.
-
@Peter: I didn’t know about this king of flash, it is very good. It really remarks the body, face and hair features. In some way, it produces a 3D effect. From the 4 options (3 against the white wall, and 1 against the dark wall) I prefer the one where the Model is away from the wall with flashes behind in both sides that eliminates the halo. In any case, all these 4 options provide really good lighting effects against the Model because it marks very well her body,
-
@Bec: I would like to know how flashes impact modelling. Is this something that help Model to pose? Or the other way around? What are the flashes that Models like the most, and hate the most? Is it annoying because it can blind you? Could you please include the answer in one of the podcast sessions?
-
@Peter: I know this session is about flash, but I like a lot the image when the Model has black eyes (when she is looking at the screen) at 2:03 and 5:59. They are really good images. I usually like when a Models looks at the computer’s screen or at the camera’s display because they express hope, but in this case what brings a lot my attention is the black eyes, specially the eye that dissipates into the black hair.
-
@Peter: I don’t know how this is seen in photography but I like a lot the white lighted areas between the parts of the body, for example between the arm and the waist at 10:53
-
@Peter: I also like a lot the pose when the arm is touching the thigh, with the skirt a little bit rised and the silhoutte a little bit bent at 2:43. I am aware this session is not about posing. But I cannot ignore this pose.
-
@Bec: I don’t understand why you say you don’t like you poses, they are really good. I like them a lot. You bend the body very good. The pose that looks like you are half-sit on a high chair is really good (e.g. 4:43-4:45).
-
@Bec: Very funny the picture with the Tour Eiffel behind, it looks like you are challenging it.
-
@Peter: I know it sounds strange but I like a lot the image at 7:06 where the Model is not focused. I don’t know why I like it. The Models seems to be part of my imagination, someone that is not real. I think what we keep in our mind is blurred. It is a kind of fuzzy memories.
-
@Peter: It is good to see the Model from other angles, not just frontal, for example at 9:15
-
@Ana: Many thanks for supporting this session, by recording with the video camera.
Interesting video (as usual 😀), but from what I can see on my screen, Bec's skin looks a bit different on shots with grey background. Looks better, more natural... Is it down to my screen, or grey background makes difference, although it should not since you work with manual settings?
Interesting!
so funny to see you're using a heater... when Europe is at 30 to 40 degrees Celsius... :-)
Damn you look great Bec you are so beautiful wish i could come see you guys but stuck in Arizona doing forest fire training shit
A Japan tour PLEASE!
We would love to go to Japan, maybe next year :)
Hey Bec, should twist Peters arm for a LED light when doing the intro, looked a bit dark, and I am sure everyone here wants to see BEC in the best light. Sorry for the PUN! Lol
Very interesting. I’m not a fan of the larger halo.
Awesome images. Personally I prefer the shadows, but I was born in the 70s.
Same here!
Been meaning to ask for ever: When shooting a model in B&W (in this case against white bg in a black dress) what does fiddling with the green channel do? I get the red, I get the yellow, but green?
Because when you move the green channel slider it makes the luminosity of everything red or green in the picture go lighter or darker
Got it. Thnx
Hey Peter. Can you tell me more about this flash looks like ring flash with a reflector/combo. Or it's because your flash it's for mid format?
Yes it's a ringflash with a ringflash reflector
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer awesome
I love your channel ❤️ .
Thank you so much!
Hubba ❤
Would love to go. The closest you'll get to me is about 1100 miles lol
Me new boots be grand
What flash is this? I’ve been looking for one exactly like this!
This the Broncolor one, not many places sell ring flashes anymore
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer Yeah I noticed that, if they do its a tiny LED one... Thanks, will look for one!
Why did you turned off "most viewed" parts of video statistics? :(
didn't turn anything off, not sure what you are talking about
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer there are no statistics of what part of clip is most interesting on the playhead timeline now
@@RESURRECT2 you have to have more than 50k in views on the video to show up
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer thank you, didn't know that 🙂
Being a model is very difficult, it's not just standing in front of the camera and waiting for instructions, but also controlling your gestures and maintaining your attitude. It's something I've been realizing lately…
I think that working with someone like bec would be something exceptional
Wow
Thanks
Which ringflash do you use?
This is the Broncolor one
She is so beautifully Cool Cool that's Cool
Cool
Nice nails!
Glad you like them!
That shadow is almost exactly like an unsharp mask, no? And the circular highlight in the eyes always distracts me
Pete: Photoshop is two hundred twenty bucks an hour.
Bek: C'mon you can do it with two clicks of the mouse.
Lol, busted:)
The Peter ladies come to Miami and I will swing by to say hi with soda pop..... No booze and that includes wine
One problem with the ring lights is you can often seen the reflection in a models eyes ...
A ring flash only leaves a tiny did in there eyes It doesn't leave a ring
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer I've seen photos where
you could actually see the ring in the models eyes .
Maybe the photographer needed to learn how to set up the lights ...
Yes thats a ring light not a ring flash, it is a constant fluorescent tube which is about a meter in diameter
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer Thanks for the correction .
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer Hello Peter, excellent vids as always. I want to chime in here since I too use the Broncolor Ringflash. The ring flash will indeed leave a very distinct ring in the eyes of the subject when the subject close enough, and like the halo effect - the result is something that some photographers like and others dislike. The reflector that you're using on the ringflash is often used up close to the subject as well. Keep up the great work!
Funny how often the video is out of sync with the flash...
Maybe you need to understand flash and videoing and you'll understand you can never sync flash with Video
I hate that I have a crush on her
Instead of New York why don't you come out to my farm in South Carolina where your models can pose with baby bunnies and chicks in the county. lol Hey a guy can dream right?
I like New York so much and we have heaps of bunnies in Australia
Horrible effect. I'll stick with the boxes.
thanks for that, have a nice day
hello you are not going to America you are visiting THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AMERICA is a Continent named in honor of AMÉRICO VESPUCCI, saludos tremenda elegancia tenéis
Bec is good as usual.
But your ringlight looks more like a beauty dish hybrid.
And I'm still not sold on ringlights except for using them for fill in emergencies..🦘
Peter, do you have plans for a workshop in South America in the future?
Hopefully next year
