- It's pretty easy to have your order messed up when you're ordering from Starbucks; it's even easier if you're deaf. Steve Hartman went "On the Road" to show how one barista is going above and beyond to change that for one of their regulars.
I learned ASL when I noticed I have a few deaf customers. The look on their faces when they ordered and I replied back was priceless.
It shows that people can still respect and show a person some dignity!
I had a Deaf customer where I used to work and because I wanted to be able to better communicate, I started learning ASL. This was about 8 months ago and it is something I'm considering going to further education after high school for when I graduate next year
This is great, and really sweet. Any chance that this video could be captioned so that deaf people can get the full story, too?
Most deaf people have an app for close captioning videos and on-line movies. My laptop, and desktop, computers came with a close captioning app as did my cell phone.
Oh yes it can be done ! Just check your internet for more features like myself , this story bring me to tears!!!
I wish this was CC'd or had subtitles so that I could see what was being said. But very sweet of her to learn ASL. It means a lot. :)
Tap the upper right hand corner of the video. Three dots will come up.Tap the three dots and it will bring up an option to turn on captions. I see captions are not available for this video.
She is awesome. Not a big deal for her but she learned a new life skill just by trying to be nice for one man. Props to her.
This is very heartwarming.
People kindness at it's finest
Beautiful, I'm not deaf, but I know sign language. I have been teaching my niece ASL
Lovely
"Customer is all they care about"
IMHO, every facility, that serves the public, should have at least one employee that can do sign language.
Talk about going the extra mile. Wow. Great job.
Dear CBS Evening News:
Why does this video, about an awesome Starbucks barista signing in ASL, not have any closed captions?? Many commenters below have noticed this fact over the last *four* years since the video was published. How can deaf people understand it? Please turn on closed captions!
Morgan had a great idea - please caption this for the deaf world.
Please make this with captions please!
Absolutely incredible. Starbuck needs to give her 100k just for the positive press
God bless good souls everywhere!:)
I must say he’s kinda cute.
She embodies Starbucks' ethos -- at least the ethos it professed in the 90's.
She's really pretty
she is amazing person lockout you need to give her a raise she's amazing person special needs people get Starbucks who is Jeff that is a good person will help him the ones go get coffee she Starbucks you need to take her for college class for signing 😂😂
Kindness at its best🙂
I think every fast-food or store or coffee shop should learn ASL i mean it helps to be bilingual and thats such a sweet story
This is so sweet!!!!!
I know ASL and the deaf people were so excited that I knowit.
Great story. Take a look around at the people in your life. There is going to be an elderly grandmother, a disabled cousin...someone. Take a moment to do something nice for them. We so often leave these people alone that they live in great isolation. And a scary percentage of them wind up committing suicide. It doesn't have to be much. A card on their birthday, a call...just a bit of something. I work with suicidal disabled people. Just the tiniest bit of attention, would make all the difference.
It's time to take her out on a date
very inspiring :)
Well done.
good press for Starbucks
Good Stuff 👌🙏
my kind of story
Im not deaf but I can no longer able to talk
What
How about making caption to this to deaf people can watch it?
Va repping!!
Would be great with captions. And seriously... Too many puns
Big pun
Rather than write a note, why doesn't she actually quit being lazy and fully learn ASL so she can do it rather than telling him he's doing it. "three whole hours" wow! lol
So she learned 4 words
What's wrong with four basic words? It's a start. Perhaps in the four years since this was taped, she might have learned a few more words or maybe is even fluent in ASL.
