I live in a rural, low-income community. The school has a Secret Santa in Dec that vendors can set up with items during the school day. The students are sent home with an envelope and the parents can put money in it and a list on the outside on who they need to buy a gift for. Some do not have money, so vendors donate small items to a table and those students can get coupons to pick something for parents/grandparents. Vendors can bring any crafts to sell as it is open to the community and teaching/school staff, but are encouraged to bring items that can be purchased for under $5 to offer students. Anyhow, put some wrapped/bagged candy in this and it would be a great and affordable gift.
This video was well shot, well paced, and had excellent narration. You included details for beginners without boring the intermediate sewers. I have watched hundreds of sewing instruction videos and was so happy to have comprehensive instruction without the unnecessary info and 'what we're going to do, is we're going to. . . " over and again. You have the rare qualities of a great teacher. I just subscribed!
I love that you shared the type of needle to use. I still think myself as a beginner so this is helpful for me. Too many people out there who share tutorials leave that out and I can tell whenever I use a wrong needle by the sound my sewing machine makes. I’ll be making these baskets today.
I can see these being used for mini class gift baskets for every holiday, birthday, back to school, teacher, valentines party, party favors, graduation etc. Thanks Vanessa!!
This is just the BEST ever, thank you. I watched your video a couple of times, then did it step by step watching you by keep pausing. OMG I'm actually impressed with myself, it's so cute. You're a really good, clear person to listen to xxx
You are a wonderful instructor. I plan on making one for my granddaughter who is learning to sew. I will fill it up with sewing tools and then help her make another one. We all know, we could use more than one. Very handy project! Thank you.
Way to cute for words, I got up the next morning and got into my scrap bin and made one !!! I did quilt mine !!! Sooooo cute thank you so much for sharing 👍🏿👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿🙌🏼🙌🏼
I stumbled across your video JUST when I was trying to figure out what to do with some ugly 10 x 10 fabric pieces I ordered from temu. Fantastic! I love your teaching style! Thank you!
Thanks Vanessa! These are so much fun to make. I made 2 of these today, the first one out of denim….🤪but it came out great. I’ve been following your videos for about 10 years now, you always have the best tutorials and are so generous with your talent.
What a cute project and a fabulous video! I watched all the way to the end BECAUSE you sped thru the repetitive parts! GENIUS! Can't wait to make a bunch and put jars of my honey inside for gifts!
Just discovered your channel and I Love this little basket ❤️ I’ve made 2 today already, but what I done with the 2nd one was cut the corners out the interface before ironing it on so that I was left with 4 squares towards another project, I’m hooked already x thaaaank you so much ❤️🇬🇧
As usual, Vanessa, fantastic tutorial (short and sweet) with lots of tips and tricks - always learning. The uses for these baskets are endless, e.g. makeup, bathroom toiletries, Christmas (fabric) for Secret Santa, etc. Thank you again. Your instructions are always concise and to the point...............from Grace :)🥰
This is really cute and looks super quick & easy, Vanessa! As I was watching you, I was thinking that if you sewed two of those leftover squares that you cut out from the corners, together, (lining and outer) they wd fit perfectly into the bottom to stiffen it up. (Bf you showed the plastic insert.) Then I realized if you do all four, you’d hv 4 nice coasters that you cd store in the basket. Maybe cd make extra coasters to fill it up! 😃
Here in from the depths of the UK, loved the tutorial, thank you :) Thank goodness I found the transcript to take notes, another "school day" for me! We don't have a Dollar Tree here, so the cutting mats aren't available but....I think the base from a pre packed deli meat container will do the trick, it's flat and measures at least 6"x6". Could double up if thought too flimsy. BTW all UK followers, if you didn't already know Batting is known as Wadding in our neck of the woods. I'm going to try my first basket with 'heavy' facing only because I have some spare and I think it'll do!. Best wishes to you all❤
Perfect sized basket for table favours at my upcoming quilt retreat. Thanks for an amazing tutorial with lots of tips to level up our sewing skills! The lining seam tip and how to add a sturdy bottom will definitely be used in other projects I make.
Job well done on this tutorial! The baskets are adorable. Bet they would look just as adorable without the handles. Can't wait to make a few. Thanks much!
I have been looking for a container to hold tiny little dolls for little people to hold not only the doll but extra clothes etc. Initially, I thought of the small tin or metal flower pots with handles. Obviously, this is not a good choice for children and then I happen across your video EURIKA! Sending loads of love and basketfull’s of hugs 😘
This was a great video. I really liked the speed in which you did this! I agree with the other comment, hands down the best instruction video. Will make one of these now. I don't know what I will do with it, but it is too cute I have to make it. Thank you
Hi Vanessa. If you wanted to make a little larger starting square, would you still use 3 inches in the corners or is there an equation for the cut outs ? Thanks much
Nice scrap buster. I think I’ll make a few as gifts in a basket and add candy. Thanks for sharing. Your videos are clear and easy to follow. I appreciate you for taking your time to help us newbie’s
These are so cute. I just made 2 of them to hold my sewing clips. Your video and instructions were so clear and easy to follow! My question to you is -- what do you do with all the 3x3 squares that are left? I can do the sewing, but I don't have the creativity to come up with a project. Thanks for the video.
Love the little baskets. I made several of baskets from one of your older tutorials. I use it for my clips. My first thought for these is to make little Halloween treat bags for my grandkids. ❤
This is, hands down, the best instructive sewing demo I've ever seen. The baskets are adorable!
Glad you enjoyed it! Check out my other videos if you enjoy my teaching style. Thanks for your kind words. 🙏🏽🙌🏽❤️
Awesome. I can see several of these holding my many clips. Thanks for sharing your skills.

Love these quick tutorials! I don’t have time to watch for longer than 10 or 15 minutes, so more of these please! ❤

My lil basket is ready to close. Thanks for the tutorial, and the suggestion for a template plastic interior base. I cut a square from a milk jug!

I stumbled across your video JUST when I was trying to figure out what to do with some ugly 10 x 10 fabric pieces I ordered from temu. Fantastic! I love your teaching style! Thank you!
Another great tutorial Vanessa! Quick and easy!! Thanks!
Thanks for the tip of the 'extra' plastic insert
You have by far the best tutorials. You get right to the point and explain everything crystal clear. Thank you. I love your little baskets.
Cute basket, I’m going to use it to hold supplies in my sewing room.

You’re welcome! I’m happy to share. 🙏🏽❤️
Thank you! I think these little baskets are reversible too! Love it 🩷
Old video but this was so fun to make and really cute. I used the square scraps to create and sew pockets to each side on the outside.
Thanks Vanessa! These are so much fun to make. I made 2 of these today, the first one out of denim….🤪but it came out great. I’ve been following your videos for about 10 years now, you always have the best tutorials and are so generous with your talent.
You are so welcome! Glad you got to make some today, too! 🥳🙌🏽❤️ Thanks for your continued support.

What a cute project and a fabulous video! I watched all the way to the end BECAUSE you sped thru the repetitive parts! GENIUS! Can't wait to make a bunch and put jars of my honey inside for gifts!
Thanks so much for your feedback. That’s was exactly the goal! I’m happy you enjoyed it and this will be perfect for honey jar gifts! 🥳🙌🏽🙏🏽❤️
These are so cute! I would also consider making a separate bottom with stiffener in it to place in the bottom in case the basket needs to be washed.
Your explanations are fabulous. Thank you for making so easy to understand.
So cute, fast, and easy--thanks to your excellent tutorial!
