Steam, i dunno how much money you will need to throw at capcom, but throw enough at them to buy them out to convince them to release stories 3 on the steam deck first before the switch. Or hell I'll take sony reminding itself that it could make a new gen PSP to compete with the steam deck that will run circles around the switch. Either company, just throw money at capcom to get them to work on this game for a far more powerful portable structure. Get some people that have worked on Tales of Arise or freaking persona to help beef up the jrpg story or world and make the best stories game. Thankyou for this review skill-up! Reaffirms my love for this little game and just wanting to see it get better and better and not limited by the console its on.
Another great vid. This game wasn't really on my radar, but I love games with complex party building mechanics so this looks right up my alley. I just wish the switch port was better optimized.
What does LOD have to do with age of computer? It's just like any other setting if you can afford it turn it on. Either you want stuff in the distance to load in and look good or the level of detail in the distance doesn't bother you then turn it off. Skillz, the PC preferrer, should definitely know this so did something change recently that only an insider would know? Or maybe my 1080ti doesn't change this functionality you speak of? Tldr: Turn ON LoD if your fps can handle it. If you're struggling to hit 60 then maybe turning it OFF will give you a few fps. PCs long in the tooth don't benefit from this actually the opposite according to common understanding.
Love MH World, have over 700h played there. Never tried a JRPG before, but I am sorely tempted to try out this. A Frostfang Barioth to ride on - amazing! Thanks for the review.
Ive been buying games from Greenman for 4 years or so now. Most of my games come from them the last 3 years. They have insane sales all the time and usually have great preorder sales. I got RE8 for 41$ a month before launch. I fucking love GMG
I was hoping you would review this. I’ve seen it be recommended by all the other reviewers and seeing it being recommended from you is a final confirmation for me :)
I will buy this to further support the development of good turn based JRPGs. If you have a passion for turn based JRPGs then we need to support titles that are decent to show devs that there is still a healthy demand for these games. Having said that please Capcom bring back Breath of Fire!
I'm curious to see one of these days how you feel about Digital Extremes handling Warframe and the direction they're taking the content. Thanks to you, I fell in love with it back in July of last year but after a year of playing, I'm feeling a strong pull to forget about the game because of DE's constant indecisiveness with buffs, nerfs and reworks, as well as their ignorance when it comes to the game's constant unstable nature.
I used to play warframe too, had 1000 hours in the game but then my monitor broke, and i couldn't game for about 3 months. And when i came back it feels like a totally different game, it's like my past 1000 hours of experience didn't amount to anything lmao. Still wouldn't say it's a bad game though
I don't want to go into too much detail or arguments here cause it's just not really the place, but in my opinion there has been a lot of unwarranted cynicism and backseat game devs in the Warframe community, and the general reaction to the melee nerfs has made me realize just how immature a very vocal part the community can really be. Truth is, live service PvE games need constant balance changes even more than most other types of games because it keeps the game fresh, and every Path of Exile player could agree with that. A couple years ago no one used melee for endgame content, then they added new mods and a 12x combo multiplier and everyone had their fill of melee. Now it's stronger than ever to the point of overshadowing everything else in the game, and it is finally time for a new era of balance. TL;DR is the melee nerfs are very good for the long term health of the game.
@@FunkyyCat_ See, that's the thing, it's fine to change things up now and then, but there should be intent, direction and measure to it, or it will feel like you're just aimlessly mucking about to create needless busywork for the playerbase. A lot of players don't appreciate that, and path of exile is a good example of it.
@@raics101 Exactly my point, thank you. They wouldn't have to rework anything in the first place if they properly stress tested how well everything synergizes with systems that already exist in the game. I tested the reworked melee mods and fine, I can live with that. But why in the world do we have to grind yet another thing for guns just so we can justify their proposed buffs by adding new arcanes? Plus, the Waverider quest is a perfect example of how DE doesn't really have a long term plan for the game and is just coming up with more unoriginal and broken content. The "quest" itself is literally a bunch of K-Drive tutorials and challenges. While doing so, Boon keeps mentioning the legend of Yareli and I'm here thinking to myself "If she's so legendary, how the hell am I just conveniently hearing about it now?"
i feel like the biggest element of fun for the combat in persona is engineering the best persona possible to basically speed through combat in the most efficient way possible. At least thats where i drew satisfaction from it, not so much the combat itself.
My solution for when u alt + tab out of the game, instead of going into settings and turning on fullscreen just hold alt and press enter to go fullscreen quickly :)
Regarding the Switch port, I could have sworn that this game was on MT Framework because the inconsistent framerates gave me serious Monster Hunter World on base PS4 flashbacks when I played the demo, but apparently no its on the RE Engine, the same engine used for Rise which is almost always locked at 30 with very few dips even on Switch hardware, so I have no clue of what happened here, hopefully some patch later on can fix it.
I still got the game for switch. Turn based games are the best when it comes to long transit trips. Although rubbing the joycons around for those QTEs by my lap can be a bit awkward...
"And off they go to slaughter an entire species so they can make a new hat or something..." Replace "hat" with "gun" and you basically have Destiny lmao

The MH games focus on one thing, do it right, and always give you enough content so that you feel it's worth 60 bucks. But kids prefer Pokemon just because it's Pokemon, no matter how bad and boring they are. What a shame.
Well it's more like parents. But even still, does MH have an anime, a trading card game, merch, several spinoffs, etc. in the same way as pokemon? Believe you me, I abhor what pokemons become just as much as anyone else but it's really no surprise why MH doesn't have quite the same reach. Who knows, maybe one day it will. Or at least be close.
I think the best way I can describe the combat is that even if you win a head to head you still get hit. You gotta think about the consequences of your actions even if you win.
I struggle with JRPG combat too, I keep failing to finish games that are otherwise really good because the combat is sometimes SO SAMEY. I did really enjoy the demo of this so I'm going to buy it! Fingers crossed.
Goddamit dude. Another game that I had convinced myself of not getting. But here I am, watching another one of your reviews and being convinced otherwise. TOUCHE TO U ONCE AGAIN U BEAUTIFUL AUSSIE
Even as a hardcore MH fan, I was planning on skipping this. But if the combat is really that engaging, the least I could do is play the trial and see if I can get over turn based combat.
Loving the game so far, but the camera feels sluggish on switch. Like it ramps up to full turn speed over about a 1 second period, which sounds minor but is annoying when it's like that every time I want to adjust my view. I also have to constantly adjust the angle it's looking down at my character at because it keeps resetting to it's neutral horizon line.

Finally people outside the UK can experience them
They've been that way for years now, lol. Actually, I just checked, I've been buying from them (as an Australian) since 2011.
I’ve never heard of them before
I've been buying games from them as a US resident for 5+ years.
@@natsirt152 Me 2 and I am from Germany. They are operating international for quite a while now ;)
"tidy discount" shows in Australian dollars. Big oof
Seriously, whoever is in charge of pricing in Aus must hate gamers.
@@FlyingFocs we get paid a lot more though hahaha, minimum wage in Australia is 21 dollars an hour for an unqualified job
@@FlyingFocs no, its jsut asutralian prices in general, not just gaming. Dollar value is almost the same as usd yet everything is more pricey. I don't know the reason or history for it though.
@@wile123456 probably because Australia is an American company lol

I LOVE games that look like this. All I need is that type of PS2/3 graphics but in hight resolutions and framerate. Hell RE4 on PC still looks great to me.
*Commenting before I watch this*
So as I was scrolling through the list of reviews, I was ABOUT to click on the IGN review when out of the corner of my eye I saw yours.
To hell with all other reviews!
I'll take YOUR word before anyone else's.
OK....now onto the review.
THANKS BRO!
Was watching a Superrad video then had to stop it to watch Rurikhan's video, had to stop that half way to watch Arekkz's video. Of course had to stop that to watch Skill Up's video, the for sure unbiased one. I am sold, just pre ordered the deluxe version on PC.
Skill Up, keep up the good work. I really like how you put in the title whether it sucks or not.
"It's like Pokemon but good." Also where's the Icebourn review?
Iceborne is old. Rise makes more sense. Unless hes waiting for the expansion.
I liked rise a lot more, the combat and artstyle suit the series more.
Love MH World, have over 700h played there. Never tried a JRPG before, but I am sorely tempted to try out this. A Frostfang Barioth to ride on - amazing! Thanks for the review.
My favorite Switch game of the year so far....breath of the wild mixed w/ mh....love it🙏
Ive been buying games from Greenman for 4 years or so now. Most of my games come from them the last 3 years. They have insane sales all the time and usually have great preorder sales. I got RE8 for 41$ a month before launch. I fucking love GMG
I was hoping you would review this. I’ve seen it be recommended by all the other reviewers and seeing it being recommended from you is a final confirmation for me :)
bro your review is insane. U deserve way more subs
subbed
Update: i also saw the same performance issues in the demo on switch. The full game is much smoother though: I don’t see those things
Windowed mode toggle is ALT+Enter on windows.
You forgot to mention the free updates with new Monsties and Challenges. Awesome review as always
I will buy this to further support the development of good turn based JRPGs. If you have a passion for turn based JRPGs then we need to support titles that are decent to show devs that there is still a healthy demand for these games. Having said that please Capcom bring back Breath of Fire!
I’m so happy people are playing this game more. It feels nice
I dont think he cares anymore
i feel like the biggest element of fun for the combat in persona is engineering the best persona possible to basically speed through combat in the most efficient way possible. At least thats where i drew satisfaction from it, not so much the combat itself.
This game is more Pokemon than Gamefreak ever did in the past few years
I honestly didn't know this was on anything other than the Switch.
Same
I'm just happy that another beautiful MH game came out. Good luck to all the fellow hunters out there
My solution for when u alt + tab out of the game, instead of going into settings and turning on fullscreen just hold alt and press enter to go fullscreen quickly :)
As a Lance main in World I look forward to having exciting Sunhi Legend looking combat for a change!
Good review... cant wait for my switch copy to come tmr 🥳🥳
A question though at 6:47 why didn't you play on the borderless setting?
Regarding the Switch port, I could have sworn that this game was on MT Framework because the inconsistent framerates gave me serious Monster Hunter World on base PS4 flashbacks when I played the demo, but apparently no its on the RE Engine, the same engine used for Rise which is almost always locked at 30 with very few dips even on Switch hardware, so I have no clue of what happened here, hopefully some patch later on can fix it.
Ralph it's 1am is Australia, why are you awake?! Why am I awake!?
Capcom are absolutely smashing it at the moment.
I still got the game for switch. Turn based games are the best when it comes to long transit trips. Although rubbing the joycons around for those QTEs by my lap can be a bit awkward...
YES. So glad you reviewed this!
"And off they go to slaughter an entire species so they can make a new hat or something..."
Replace "hat" with "gun" and you basically have Destiny lmao
Ah mate your a legend. Always love your content
Great review and help push my buddy over the line into purchase territory andWill be running co-op together for a little bit of extra fun. Really appreciate you reviewing the JRPG and I hope you do more of them in the future if you feel it’s worth taking a look into.
Informative review! Thanks
why is it that when skill up puts the result in the title its more effective at getting me to click than if it was clickbait?
Hey, Alt-Enter usually changes the window to fullscreen mode.
I love ur reviews and the great placement of criticism👍🏼 no fake rage and always put the weakpoints in n perspective.
Just u may missed out of the huge roadmap on content that drop for free after the releas. Maybe that info droped after ur cutting and edeting phase 🤔
Bro finish Like A Dragon and believe me, you're body will FEEL accomplished
Especially if you manage to complete the True Final Millenium Tower. Oomph. That run took me 2.5 hours!
@@gilded_lady well worth
i need to finish it. I reached the final boss and i died to him when he had a sliver of hp left. I couldnt be bothered running the whole tower again :/
@@IWantToStayAtYourHouse there's a good xp cheese you can run quickly in one of the dungeons toward the end, alot of guaranteed hobos just aoe and shoot them for quick xp
So glad you reviewed this. Can’t wait to continue my journey.
10/10 review will buy now from green man gaming
You did this sublime Justice. Thank You, from the bottom of my heart for your honest reviews
17:31 So what you are saying is when they are bad you add the hard r?
Goddamit dude. Another game that I had convinced myself of not getting. But here I am, watching another one of your reviews and being convinced otherwise. TOUCHE TO U ONCE AGAIN U BEAUTIFUL AUSSIE
Dont get it, it sucks
I didn't get to play monster hunter stores 1 either so this gives me some hope! I'll check it out.
to this day there is not a single bad MH game (most consistent series ever)
I am here waiting for any troll to criticize any of the games of the franchise XD
I've honestly been debating getting this on my switch. You sold me.
Even as a hardcore MH fan, I was planning on skipping this. But if the combat is really that engaging, the least I could do is play the trial and see if I can get over turn based combat.
You can try monster hunter stories on mobile first (it got free demo there). The combat is the same.
Its not engaging at all its literally freaking rock paper scissors, dont buy this pos
OMG seltas queen! Is she ride-able? I have to know!
I know its been 6 days and you probably know by now but no it isn't.
@@regular5571 i was devastated... But thx for the reply though.
I'm playing it, and it does feel like a Pokemon game, but gamefreak listened to the fans and did cool stuff. By that I mean it's way better
17:00 i wasnt expecting that outburst but he has thew right of it xD
Loving the game so far, but the camera feels sluggish on switch. Like it ramps up to full turn speed over about a 1 second period, which sounds minor but is annoying when it's like that every time I want to adjust my view. I also have to constantly adjust the angle it's looking down at my character at because it keeps resetting to it's neutral horizon line.
I felt that, I think there's some settings to tweak tho, I found turning off the autotracking made the camera feel much better
@@adthedark1811 yeah turning off camera tracking seemed to work for me too!
@@adthedark1811 Were you able to do that on switch? I will have to try that, thank you for the advice! I feel like I'm in a constant struggle against my camera haha
@@adthedark1811 Dude I honestly can't thank you enough. I turned camera tracking off and it's 100x times more enjoyable now that I'm not fighting my camera the whole time. Thank you so much for this tip, I might've found it eventually but you saved me hours of frustration! Thank you!!
@@dogs-game-too No problem lol, happy gaming :)
To be honest, I'm just happy to have more Monster Hunter Stories. I really liked the first game and was clamoring for a more fleshed out sequel and I'm really really happy that we got it. It might not be perfect but it's more MH Stories and for me that's perfectly fine.
