As much as the Show devolved after the beginning, this was a great first episode, it actually showed consequences for the Seed characters’ actions and felt genuinely grey.
I never thought it was a problem of Shinn. The show took a sidestep because it started to be all about Kira again and how he's always right. Shinn was fantastic all the way through.
Honestly, the first arc (~13 episode) of GSD is some of the best modern gundam arc. Tightly paced, well animated, stories and characters are coherent and makes sense. It was only after this that the shows showed the cracks in it's shaky foundation.

For all the issues Destiny had this first episode was amazing. Especially that opening scene. I miss when anime used to have more visceral gore like that, it really helps enhance the feeling of death. Nowadays we just get nondescript blood splatters.

same, kira character development is amazing, from someone who is cry baby and fragile become strong, tbh his development is kinda realistic, no one suddenly adapt from high schooler suddenly become pilot who kills people. Lacus also great character, her sense of justice is really high, meanwhile athurn at the time is dont understand who is he fighting for, justice?to get attention or acknowledgment from his father?or what? thats why lacus separate ways because the way of they see the conflict, war and justice just different. she is also one of the reason kira find strengh within himself. tbh im glad that even tho SD has double protagonist, its more like to Kira after middle of story, because he is matured and fight for protect not revenge or attack. beautiful gundam design as well, and OP pilot. haha if u pay attention SEED is like modern ver of Gundam 78 but with more friendship thing. white base and archangle is similar design, 4 legged main ship, the story is about high schooler forced to defense themselves by piloting gundam, they keep defending and run with MC being the only one who capable of operating the gundam.
You know you're in for an _edgy_ ride when within the first 5 minutes of a show the MC sees his family's mangled corpses. That can somewhat justify how incredibly angsty and annoying Shinn is. Somewhat.
U know, I thought shinn was the new MC in seed destiny. But then I thought it was athrun. At the end, I was just confused between shinn, athrun and kira
I immediately sided with Shinn after the death of his family. Not previously seeing Gundam Seed and not knowing Kira, Cagali and Anthrun. It was a rollercoaster ride with him and his questionable actions.
glad to see i wasnt the only one who saw GSD first. In fact this is the first gundam series i watched and i still like it to this day. Seed was unwatchable for me coz first half was boring but not this series

But this episode is just the first episode from Gundam SEED.. but instead of Earth's new models that are being stolen, it's ZAFT's new mobile suits.. also one question, where the heck is Kira?? 시드 시데보다 훨씬 전부터 건담을 봤지만 1화부터 이만큼 두근거리게 만들어주는 건담도 없었는데. 나중에는 악평도 꽤 들었지만 당시에는 다들 눈에 불을 켜고 봤죠.
