This scene always cracked me up but more than that I was always blown away by Seller's acting ability. Just think of it, he's an Englishman who is acting to have a French accent (a silly one but still) and then he is playing a guy with a French accent who is pretending to talk with a Swedish accent!!! I mean how do you even begin to wrap your mind around that? lol. Absolutely classic.
@@dentoncify They were saying that Peter Sellers was once married to Britt Ekland, who could have taught him to speak some "Swedish", or he could have imitated "the Swedish chef" from the Muppet show.
when I watched this as a kid with my Dad, he started laughing so hard at this scene that he was coughing, crying, choking, and couldn't breath. I actually had never seen him laugh that hard before then and at first I thought was something wrong with him and maybe he was dying, haha.
Lol.... I had exactly the same experience with my Dad....the interrogation scene where Sellers went down the stairs off the parallel bars was another scene I thought my Dad might be dying..
This was without a doubt one of my fathers favorite movie scenes of all time. My dad could imitate this Peter Sellers character perfectly. Freakin hilarious.
Of course, a big part of the humor in this scene is the fact that even though Clouseau -- pardon me, Chief Inspector Clouseau! -- is supposed to be "under-the-covers" and in disguise, the security guard recognizes him IMMEDIATELY.
The parrot actually needed constant inflation during the scene and it flew off in one take by mistake and was kept in. Some of the best jokes happen by mistake.
He was not only in AYBS but also in A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum. Frank Thornton was supposedly in that too as a quick appearance but I can never figure out who he was.
This man was a master comedian, an English guy doing an over-the-top Swedish accent, filtered through an over-the-top French accent. And I never noticed until now, but after he pulls his fake leg out, the board is actually still stuck to the bottom.
1:42 Scolds an inflatable parrot in his phony Swedish as he's pumping it back up. "Pumin' de airen in de birden." "OH, sixteen chests on a dead man's rum..."
Wow...most likely my favourite scene of all time. And I always thought he said, "it's just an old salty "seedy" seadog from the salty seas." You learn something new everyday... Sellers was the greatest !!!!
OMMG So much going on. So much to say. But for now just two things. The dogs reaction is beyond the realms of pricelessness. A canines first reaction to the unknown ( or as to the yet undetermined ) is to bark.. and continue with a calm steady bark until the percieved threat either escalates or fails to materialize. The freakin dog BEGINS with a growl and bark ( which 32,000 years of evolution and genetics tells him to do ) ... then all growl and bark trail off and he looks up at his master in utter confusion...as if he isnt exactly sure HOW to proceed. OMG OMG This is beyond the realms of genius and silliness !!! I have this video on my desktop as mana and I swear I'll watch it a dozen times in one sitting, but I cannot believe that I've never noticed that at 1:06 attached to the bottom of the peg leg is a piece of 2 by 4 that presumably broke off and remained attached when he got his peg caught in the hole ! Guys, that didn't even need to be there yo....That didn't even need to be in the final edit. My goodness. My my goodness. They must have had a blast filming this. To bring such hilarity into creation. My goodness.
I like how the dog changes from . alertness, to awareness and then ohh parrot is like a ball.. let me chase it. like the plank stuck on his peg leg, so there is a mishap with the parrot. His legs stay stuck on his shoulders as he goes flying off. Poor Swedish fisherman.. " hey we don't sound like that"
EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC Comedy. OMG!!!... That splash at the end always killed me. I practiced speaking like him so much, I actually have him down pat. I do a very good Clouseau.
The deflating bird and the barking dog always get me. That damn dog always starts barking whenever he flaps his arms to inflate the bird. It's just so stupid.. it's genius.
Clouseau's version: Sixteen chests on the dead man's rum, yo, ho, ho, and a bottle of the chest, drink for the devils and drum for the rums for ooohhh...splash...!
I adore and love his movies and entirely agree. However; he had a way to be serious of current events regarding history and the future. Peter Sellers knew how to act on the truth.
"Sixteen chests on a dead man's rum Yo ho ho, in the bottle in the chest Drink to the devil and drink to the rum Save some for the chest and some for the rum" I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING
I love that when the parrot blows away the feet are still attached to Clouseau's shoulder. One of the funniest moments in comedy ever!
All those actors who could keep a straight face while acting with sellers are the real MVPs.
if you only knew how many retakes they did for that scene, so not sure about that. they often break character and start laughing

The wooden leg in Swedish national colours is a nice touch.
The look on Alfie Bass’s face when he first sees him is priceless. Superb acting.....
HA ha, as a Swede i think that Clouseau learned swedish from the swedish chef. I must have seen this a thousand times, but its still as funny as ever.

Peter Sellers var gift med Britt Ekland så det är nog självupplevt. Bara inse att svenska låter som the Swedish chef!🇸🇪👨🏻🍳

I have all of the Pink Panther DVDs and have to get my Clouseau fix from time-to-time. Peter Sellers was brilliant in this part.
