This comes from a great little disc, and continues to be one of my favorite Dar recordings (Darecordings???). Anyone still listening in 2019?

I find that I find just about everything dar sings entoxicated, the lyrics and guitar I would beinterested in chatting with others who are as taken by her music as I am.

In the vein of Tracy Chapman and Dolly Parton--when she sings, you feel like she's singing to you. That's what I've found.

Used to listen to this on K-Pig from Santa Cruz,CA. Laura Ellen, rip, played it. So did Mr. Hedge who has gone missing. Like me. ha. I'm gonna have to go visit them and see how things are going. Did they have to play pop to satisfy their sponsors? Ack!

Saw Dar sing this at, I think, the Royal Festival Hall in London, tossing her hair back and stamping a foot. Wish she would come back.

Stop arguing about the singer of the song! Damn, people! Do you all argue about which flavor of ice cream or which color or which flower is 'best'? Just enjoy it for what it is...or not...or whatever! Humans always needing to declare something better than something else...always needing to down-talk something...depressing...

Exactly! Why do we organize things in our brains in some kind of order.
This is a nice song written be Fred, and celebrated by Dar's cover. I like them both.

Fred enjoyed talking about becoming a lesbian songwriter. I feel the two perspectives complement one another. Both versions remind me of wild women I've loved and had to let go.
Dar Williams voice might be less suitable for "I Shot Your Dog" than Fred's is and, unlike Fred, I never sold Dar any biodiesel for a tour-bus.

I used to only like this version, but I like both now. There is a third version of Fred doing it live, and he puts the capo on the first fret and moves the Key up to F Major, and plays it a little quicker. Try to listen to it sometime. I like all 3. : ) By the way...where is Dar? Hello...album? New songs?

I love hearing musicians sing from the POV of the opposite sex, not because I am gay-centric, but because I think it showcases the performer's ability to tell a story that is not their own and still make it heartfelt and believable. Dar does this in "Highway Patrolman" with equal impact. Another great example in the same vein is Rodney Crowell's "I Wish It Would Rain".

mhm I agree, Dar brings meaning to it that I don't feel with Fred's version. Then again with Rebel Rebel I prefer the original meanings it gets across the female covers just miss.
