I don't know if you know of a band called G love and the special sauce but when I heard your voice it reminded me of the lead singer's which is a good thing.
Well now you have to watch The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full), because that is a whole another level of storytelling. And of course Ren with his band The Big Push busking on Brighton Beach (first suggestion would be: I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop). He also plays piano, I have seen a few videos. I think a lot of the 'random' bits are Film, TV and Music references. It seems to me he set out to inlcude as many in the lyrics as possilble. Also that first drop with the descending 360 camera reminds me so much of Dizzy Rascal - Bonkers. Maybe that's the 'Dizzy' reference. Any how it's an absolute blinder and guaranteed to get even a corpse tapping its feet.
Oh, he’s way more versatile than you’ve seen so far!!!! There’s so much more!!! I agree with what everyone says about checking out the live busking performance of him and the Big Push doing I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop is a great next stop! Also Ocean, Hold On, and also some of his deeper spoken word poetic stuff like Depression and Insomnia!

I really hadn't been that much into rap before. I am 55 and the rap that I was exposed to was mumble rap or angry.
Neither of which are things I want to hear. Let alone listen to.
But, I have been learning through Ren and watching reactors.
I'm even learning to listen faster. Lol
There is just something about Ren that makes me want to hear what he wants to say.
No matter how he chooses to do so.
Maybe it's because, he is an incredibly real young man. Who is willing to share his music, mind and life with us.
But, I think that it's more than that.
He has an intense charismatic draw.
He is captivating.
In any form he chooses.
Maybe that is a definition of a true artist.
I'm willing to follow him down any road and learn along the way.

I highly recommend Crutch feat. Bibi if you want to see an entirely different side to Ren. It is an emotional and absolutely beautiful song.

I love how he starts out by making fun of the genre, then shows what he can do with it. Both adopting some of the genre staples (drops, choruses, drum build-ups, plus referencing his own flow as part of his rap delivery) and using double-time+ in parts to challenge the head-nodding. Complex rhyme schemes and switches complicate the vibe, and I love how he's just refusing to land in any one category. Makes for a complex and mind-boggling showpiece of how he COULD be commercial, if he wanted to.
Another favourite of mine. Power is another I love and Genesis 🖤

As a South African watching many US reactions, it is amazing how little of his wordplay and references seem to be 'caught'.
IMHO his wording schemes are really tight and make clear sense as it were. Maybe a bunch of his references don't resonate e.g. Kaiser Chiefs "Ruby, Ruby" for a more US-centric audience.
This is just an observation and by no means a dis. Appreciate your reactions.
Related to the above, it feels like most reaction videos miss a differentiating opportunity. I reckon inserting an 'afterword' section to cover 'I've now listened to the track in the car a few times and here are some things I found cool/missed out/wanted to comment more on...' V few do anything like this.
If course the track has to be likeable enough to warrant playing again... and it's not like you have a limited amount of stuff people want you to react to😅
Yeah I see what you’re saying. These are my reactions and it’s not possible for me to catch everything from the lyrics, instrumentation, mixing and everything in between, in one listen. If I wanted to go more in depth and detailed I would do a “Breakdown” video. I might look into making those

I'm American, but boy, I totally agree. I haven't seen a reactor yet who's caught the red light-Roxanne reference. Not to mention Ren's visual puns and allusions, e.g. that hilarious bar where he's lying in bed, and then we immediately cut to him getting fit. The mainstream music scene in the States is pretty insular and homegrown, in my view, except for maybe the K-pop phenomenon which is fairly recent. It makes for music consumers who simply don't know how to get a wider range of music, they lack the tools.
TLDR - IMO this is tightly constructed both visually and lyrically. Quite the opposite of chaotic.
It all just really depends where you're coming from. I'm not a rap connoisseur, but I do get the red light Roxanne and van Damme references bc I'm older and have an eclectic music taste. Ren is a worldly musician, for sure. I really enjoy the @Sean Staxx commentary, music analysis, and respect he puts into his reviews.

I love Ren's versatility. This is a fun track, definitely leaves me breathless with chaotic structure and the techno beat haha

Ren has a few older ones which do not follow the.. Hi ren sick boi etc etc,it depends which side you want to see as he is like a cube: ie many sides. some older ones have been mentioned below but " children of the moon" is very different as is Ren Ft. Bibi - Crutch,, look at everyside its pure genius and talent.
I know nothing about music but they way he links every line together so it's not unpredictable is genius

I feel like it should be mentioned that the EDM song here isn't actually Ren's. Losing It is by Fisher, he's a popular EDM artist. Ren took the song and rapped over it as part of a retake thing he was doing for a while. He's also done retakes of songs from The Verve, Fatboy Slim, Sbtrkt, the Foo Fighters and they're all amazing. But if you wanna see something really cool, you should watch his 16 bar challenge. It's only a minute long, but that's all Ren needs to be impressive AF. lol
I have been loving all the love Ren has been getting. Amazing talent! I have a band you should check out that I think you will love. The band is Afterlife . . . I would suggest that you start with their song Throat, but you should also check out Part of Me and Envy! Lead vocal, Tyler, is another "do it all" talent.

You have to take this as the braggadocio rap that it is. Much that you may think is nonsense is actually all working around that theme. Starting with the giant fe fi fo fum and all of the names and movies. Like Tom Cruise. And Stevie Wonder. And David Beckham. It all fits.
I sincerely think you’ll have the same opinion to me in regards to ‘Genesis’. For me it’s up there with my favourite hip-hop/rap ever. It’s constructed in a more classic sense but does it’s own thing. You’ll see.
