@specmauto2373 mine was really brittle. I ended up taking a blue Scotch Brite pad and rubbing off all the flaky clear coat, then put some Chemical Guys VRP on it with surprisingly good results. There's still some "carbon fiber texture" showing, but you really have to get up close to see it.
i think the reason they didnt leave it is for the other colours. I have a blue Acura CSX essentially an 8th gen anyway, and underneath my vynil is blue. I wont lie, the black vynil looked better on my car. regardless looks clean on your car man!
Thanks! I think coupes have plastic pillar moldings though. Luckily. The sedans definitely had the shit end of the stick when it comes to what Honda used for window pillar trims
Thanks so much! I was wondering how to remove that vinyl. I had no idea that crap was OEM as I had bought my Civic used. I thought the dealership was being cheap to cover up defects.
Depending if it easily peels off or if it flakes off In pieces. If it all peels off in one piece then it shouldn’t be required but if it flakes into millions of small pieces as it gets peeled off like mine did then you may have to take the trims off. I had to for 3/4 windows
Mine is so deteriorated that the sticker breaks apart while I try to pull it off and it take me an hour per door. I still have one door left and been putting it off for months cause I hated doing this. Gonna knock it put this weekend though so I can change the window trim at the same time and stop water leaking in through the door
That’s exactly what mine did. They were so cheap with it. I noticed upon observation that the 06-08 models hold up better over time with their window stickers and window belt mold trims. Idk what the heck happened in 2009 (recession I assume) And the quality of those both went down drastically. Most 09-11 civics all have really flaked and dry rotted rubber trims compared to 06-08 counterparts
@@Specmauto so I finally got around to the final door and this time I used the heat gun from the inside portion of the door, heating up the metal in the area I was working on rather than the front right over the tape which tends to further deteriorate the plastic sticker. Well it still took a long time but the take came off MUCH easier and broke off less often. Hope this helps anyone who’s gonna take on this task.
You need to polish it. There is a bunch of orange peel, and it would likely get rid of those white spots. Idk how you can get rid of the vinyl stuck in the sides, though
Yeah I definitely plan on doing some polishing and waxing on there. A little extra elbow grease and time should take care of the little vinyl pieces leftover. The good news is that what little material is left behind is barely noticeable unless your eye is right up on it. Otherwise it definitely would’ve been a much bigger priority to remove right away.
More I search on B pillar trim tape removal the more I want to do this on my mine!.. Mine is all sun burnt and faded from this California sun lol and it bugs the hell out of me 😅
Just keep in mind if you go to remove that it will be very tedious and time consuming. You will be doing it for hours. Especially if it’s snake skinned from sun damage
@@Specmauto I started peeling the tape off and I see that there’s lines in the paint. Idk if it’ll look good all the way off. Will those marks come off?
On the top of the door above the window glass, they do have the vinyl tape yes. You can buy new ones from Honda for around $13 each for the front doors and $7 for the rear door tops.
That would be a huge waste of money and time. I’d rather not have the tape at all or buy the plastic stick ons from Amazon. I can understand wanting to replace it on a car that’s a different color but I’m not putting overpriced black electrical tape back onto a black car.
Been looking everywhere for this solution. Appreciate you putting in the effort. I'll give it a try on my white model.
Let me know how that works out for you.

Looks great, I've thought about doing something to make that trim look better on my 09 EX Coupe

you can peel it off from the back if you remove the weather seal on the door, you can also buy the vinyl if you need to
hey do you have any idea of a vynil that looks the closest to the OEM one? I took one of the wraps off for the sake of doing a rust repair
Bro I really appreciate this video in gonna do mine when the weather permits
Good luck!

Lo , is been a few weeks due different clothes, hat and new Glasses 🤓, Lol !
Appreciate the video, you give a lot of info many other channels don’t. Did you have to remove the window trim at the bottom?

Honda sells the trim tape. I replaced mine.
It looks better without the tape imo
where do they sell it
@@uaabd7430 Honda dealerships, of course.

what is the tool called that you're using to take the tape off?
Just a plastic blade scraper.
I recommend doing it with the heat gun like I was. It’s a very time consuming job. It won’t be a quick painless process.
@@Specmauto I started peeling the tape off and I see that there’s lines in the paint. Idk if it’ll look good all the way off. Will those marks come off?
Some may not come off but I used goof off and rubbing alcohol to help get rid of most of the residue
Does the 9th gen have these tape too?
No. I believe they have plastic window pillar plates.

Im pretty sure this would be the exact same on my 09 acura csx but not 100%
Should be. A CSX is a rebadged civic with the Japanese market exterior and interior.
Vape nation?
No. I don’t vape.
why not get the honda oem tape (Honda 67864-SNE-A00ZA Tape Set, L. RR. Door Sash *NH70* (BLACK GLOSS 20)) etc? Is there an issue with that?

@Specmauto Amazon only sells vertical pillars stickers only, but not the part that goes over..I'd buy if it existed..
