Limiting the size of your baggage is so important. When I were a lad I walked long distance footpaths every summer. First year I went into the outdoor shop intent on buying the top of the range 80l rucksack. Bloke in the shop said 'why the hell do you want that, you'll just fill it with 80l of stuff you don't need but have to carry. Buy this 45l bag for half the price. If it doesn't go in, make do without it..!' I've never needed more...

Good advice but I still hike with 120l bergan.
      My wool blanket is massive

👍There we go, great example of what works for you must be right. I suspect you may have broader shoulders and a stronger back than me...!

Torch. Both for inspecting bike and other things when it dims down, and for the campsite. I'm using a headlamp and a usb-chargeable magnet 'button' light.

I like the idea of organising things into garage, bathroom, office, etc. My next trip (UK to Portugal via south of france and over the Pyrenees on a V-Strom 650) I'll do without panniers and use top box & roll bag. I've never had a tank bag before but watching this they look very useful so I might look for one. Thanks for the videos...

I like that Bosch multi-tool set, Nathan.
I'm a tank bag fan, but I prefer smaller ones. Any hardware goes in the rear. When I stop at a cafe, I take the tank bag with me, so I want it to be light.
I found a write-up by you on the X-Adv 750 on the net the other day. Good article based on a test. I am tenuously interested in a secondhand one.

Thanks Nathan. I use a bum bag for my essentials like passport, wallet etc so if my tank bag is stolen I can still carry on.
I use small lomo waterproof bags for anything that can't get wet.
I would be interested which tent you use, I have the vango omega 3 man tent but looking to downsize a little.
The other tip is to leave space somewhere so you have somewhere to put grub etc before arriving at campsite.
Really enjoying these, keep em coming.👍

Worth having a look at the Vango Banshee or Blade if you can find one of the older versions.

Very good. Great, cheap luggage solution - you really don't need much more. Lomo are great value - they have a huge range and despite the low cost, the dry bags keep the water out and are very durable.
As a skint youngster, I would just strap a big sports bag to the bike with all my gear stuffed into bin-bags inside to keep it dry. You need to do the same with the tank bag unless you have a waterproof cover.

‘You might stink a bit at the end, nobody might want to talk to you in a bar’ 🤣🤣🤣. Keep them coming Nathan, very informative and well done mate. Might be good to hear a few essential breakdown or roadside skills that are worth knowing or practising before setting off on a tour.

Clothes? Pack for 3 days, whether 3 days, 3 weeks or i guess 3 months working on the same principle. Clothes made of wicking material can be worn several days and wash and dry easily. Plus if you need a smart set, cheap sports outlets sell golfing wear in the same material. Packs light looks great.
    The 3 day rule.

Or you can go by 1970's biker rule & just wear the same clothing all year round?
I did a camp out with an old road dog who rides a panhead once, all he brought with him was a sleeping bag his baccy tin & the very few tools needed to fix his horse, Never washed brushed his teeth or changed his clothing once. The old school bikers had it sussed just take some fuel & beer money!
      Ride hard roll free...

@@moorshound3243 I appreciate the sentiment but there are limits ... And I quite like company at times, so a bit of cleanliness can be helpful .
Yo each their own, whatever their choices. That's freedom
      Happy travels

I have tried all methods of dealing with a flat, and I favour carrying spare inner tubes. I have seen the mess that slime makes when a valve rips out, and I have tried to patch a tyre in the rain by the side of the road (and when the valve has ripped out...) to me, a new inner tube will always get you going again. As for tubeless tyres with no centrestand in the rain with no mobile signal ......(carry a tent)

Any advice would be handy for changing a tube at the roadside. I got caught out and had to replace the rear tube on my Himalayan and it was an absolute pig of a job, despite having tyre levers and rim protectors I still scratched the rim. The front is a lot easier but the rear was a pain in the arse..at least for me anyway. Thanks for the vids they are very useful.

Practice at home and find out if your tyre choice is a stiff sidewall.
