    Thank you so much for this tutorial, Patti. I have been coiling since the 60's and just finished some coasters with Sari ribbon for my daughter. Coiled coasters cannot be beat! The fact that you did the African design is what caught my attention. In my opinion there is way too little African design being done on UA-cam. I enjoyed every minute of your tutorial and near the end I learned from you the glue gun suggestion. Brilliant!!! Thanks again.

    I lived in Yosemite for 30 yes and knew Julia Parker, Native American, Miwok Pomo, and I would watch her making her baskets at the Indian Culture Center for hours. I dreamed of making baskets like her but I never took the time to collect and dry the natural minerals. I'm going to try making on of your baskets. Maybe I will have the touch in this art like you and Julia Parker, a master. Her daughter Lucy has taken to doing this art. She will carry on the Native Culture of the indigenous people from the Yosemite area. Be well and thank you for your art. 🧺🌻

      What a lovely comment. Thank you for your story. It’s amazing what they can create with the natural grasses and reeds. But for me I had to unfortunately use manufactured products. But still turns out beautiful. Enjoy creating!

    Hi, Patti, Like many others, I appreciate your clear and concise instructions and the camera set-up that shows so clearly what you are doing. Would you please explain (demonstrate) what you have drawn on the paper that is your guide? Thanks so much!

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  10 місяців тому

      I just used the paper guide to make the initial markings on the rope to keep the pattern started. I was going to explain more on the paper but was easier to just do it on the actual basket. I meant to take the paper away so it wasn’t confusing. I guess that may have confused you. Sorry about that. Again I really only used it for the points in the circle when I used the fabric pen to make a mark on the rope.

      Thanks for watching and glad you’re enjoying my videos. For your lid you could start with your first strip of rope the size of your basket then go back and forth on the one side of that strip making it the size you want for your lid.

    W.O.W.!!! Impressive!
    Start to finish, how long did this basket take? I make rope bowls, like you, and most don’t take very long to construct. This being a little more labor intensive, I suspect it would take longer.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  2 роки тому +3

      Yes, definitely takes a lot more time then sewing on the machine. Hand sewing as you know is definitely more labor intensive. But for those who don’t have sewing machines it is great project. It’s also a way to make fun patterns. I didn’t time myself and always adds on time when I am filming at the same time. My guesstimate would be 4-8 hours. A project while watching TV!

      Oh gosh. Hard to put into words. Have a look at the photo of the basket to follow. Start with the black. Start by one colour extending the next by a few stitches and then every round bring each colour a few more stitches wide and carry on like that. Sorry it’s hard to put into words.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  2 роки тому +1

      I don’t know of any patterns to buy but you can make your own. Do a little sketch on paper and colour in what you want different colours. Then just follow that pattern when you wind the rope around choosing the colours at the right spot to make the star pattern. Interchanging the different colours like I showed in the video for the spiral design but you will make a star instead. Make marks on the rope like I did so your star will be even.

I didn’t keep the best track of materials for the other baskets as I was demonstrating on the 4 colour spiral. • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  Рік тому

      Not sure where you live but sisal tends to absorb water so any humidity could make it rot. Or any liquid or dampness in the bowl could cause it to rot or break down. Makes sense when you said after about 8 years. The sisal won’t hold up forever.

    Have you ever just sew the basket and come back to wrap colors? 🐾🐾

      No. With this method of basket weaving I wrap and join the rows at the same so it would not work to sew first and wrap later.
