Google Pixel Phone | Bootloop FIX?

- In this video I show you how I fixed a bootloop issue on a Google Pixel (first generation). The principles in this video can be applied to other Android phones and tablets that have a bootloop issue.
***WARNING - IF the reflow gets your phone started, take the opportunity to back up all your files because you don't know how long the memory chip is going to last. Sometimes the chip may last one day, one week, one month, or one year.
***Potential software fixes: 1. press and hold power for 30 seconds with the phone unplugged to a power source. Then plug in the phone and press the power button again for 30 seconds. 2. Try to hard reset the phone through the Android Bootloader Menu. turn off phone, press and hold power + vol down, use volume keys to find the "recovery" option press power button to select recovery, in the next screen press and hold power then press vol up. IF you cannot enter recovery, your storage chip has failed.
To clean up flux after I'm done, first I wipe off the flux with a tissue paper and then I use a Q-tip dipped in alcohol. It is not necessary to clean up flux IF you use No-clean flux.
Phones made after 2016 have changed from EMMC storage chips to UFS storage chips. From the outside the chip looks the same and it still uses BGA 153.

Hi Chavez Hobbies, I have à Nexus 5 and Pixel C tablet, and both devices are stuck on bootloop.
I try recovery mode :
- reboot system now : not work !
- Wipe cache partition : not work !!
- Wipe data / factory reset : not work !!! ( again !? ...yes ! 😤 )
I have 3 devices from Google, the only one work, it’s à Nexus7 2013 but I give for à friend.
I have no solutions for fix the troubleshootings of the two others devices 😢( and I’am not à electronic doctor like you, I have not your skills and capability 😉 )

You're welcome! The Pixel C tablet is a nice one. You can still sell your devices as "for parts" online. Someone that knows how to fix a bootloop issue will buy it. You may not have the skills right now but you can learn by trying. Making mistakes and failing is a natural part of learning. I have messed up sometimes, but I keep in mind that I am still learning.
Those type of reflows have a high re-failure rate. The proper way is to remove the chip and clean everything off and add new balls.
What you can do is do it again, but add flux to the sides of the chip so it flows under to the balls. Then heat the chip until the slightest push/bump of the chip sees it move/wobble - the push/bump joins cracks in solder -. The bump/push has to be very small so the ball surface tension pulls it back into place. Too hard a push will push one ball to the other so they join, and that will short the balls together, ie, you need a total new reball.

My Google Pixel XL is also like this. Sadly, there's no remedy for this issue. The only thing I could is to purchase another. I just bought this phone because of the unlimited google photos storage.
Have you tried reflowing the memory chip? The unlimited photos storage option compresses your photos a bit, so they won't be in their original size. The photos still look good though in this option. If you choose original photo/video quality, the files will count towards your 15 GB of free storage.

I think 1st pixel series has that unlimited google photos at original quality.
@@ChavezDIY The Pixel 1 and Pixel 1 XL are the only ones that back up all photos with UNLIMITED FULL RESOLUTION photos at ORIGINAL quality.
@@Progressive.G That's correct. I confirmed that myself with a Pixel 1 after the comment above. The downside is that the camera is really old and it doesn't do a good job in low light situations and has a hard time with macro shots. I ended up with free full storage of some mediocre shots, it wasn't very helpful for me. I'm okay with storing photos and videos at a compressed "high resolution". If I need the original quality I download them off the phone via USB through my computer.
@@ChavezDIY you can upload your DSLR camera photos through a Pixel 1 and receive full resolution backups...it doesn't just apply to the photos that the phone takes it applies to all photos uploaded through the phone. 👍

You're right, the phone was on Android 11 when I made the video. My phone now has Android 12 so I might be able to make a new video, we'll see if I have time maybe this coming labor day weekend.

Check the video description for more information. It doesn't always work. You will need to replace the memory chip and reflash stock Android. Sometimes its not worth doing all that work.
