I once had a coworker back in college who was like “oh you like Green Day too?” while I was playing music in the kitchen (we worked at a BBQ restaurant) and since that’s my favorite band, I was already kind of curious about her. I mean, she was definitely cute, but hearing her say that and naming a somewhat obscure song of theirs as her favorite (Whatsername) definitely caught my attention.
Long, complicated story short: we eventually started hooking up, but then it got really fucking messy emotionally and ended on very bad terms. She winded up breaking my heart.
She was also a total nutcase.
In 2007 I decided that the woman I would marry would be into the Deftones, and in 2012 I met her. At the time, she was a college dropout. We've since been married for ten years, and she got a degree in Microbiology and works as a research scientist. Lots of tats, often compared to that NCIS lab goth.
So the cost/ride calculus worked out.

I think people overvalue having a partner who likes the same things you do. My wife’s taste in music and movies is pretty much exactly opposite of mine (though we have some overlap). It’s way more important that you’re with someone who shares the same values as you.

I was just thinking this. To be fair, my bf and I do have a lot of similar tastes, but we also have a lot of areas where we differ.
I went out to a goth event the other night and I got all dressed up and danced, and my bf went somewhere else with his friends as the goth thing is absolutely not his scene.
I left the event thinking that I really love and appreciate him for just being himself. For not going to these events with me and trying to fit in or force anything that just isn't true to himself.
I really like that we can have some interests that are so different and it allows us to have lives outside of our relationship.
100% agree. Up until I met my wife I had been a gigging guitarist in mostly post hardcore/prog metal/metal core bands for 15ish years. We are polar opposites with our music tastes, although there is overlap. Movies and art we agree on mostly. The one thing that has been integral to our marital success has been shared values. She may hate Meshuggah. I may hate Billy Eilish, but we both agree on the values we are instilling in our children. So yeah, shared values are really important. That and having a killer sex life.😊
I think it's still fairly important when you're younger, since you're probably more active and actually engaging in hobbies/interests. Flying solo kinda sucks when you're younger. Plus your values might not really be set in stone yet anyway. Then you get older, you aren't going out to concerts/art exhibitions/whatever as much anymore, hell you might even have kids. That's when values and beliefs become more important than "we both like band X".

Horse girl categories: Equestrienne (rides and handle horses on some top tier level), farm girl (actually uses horses on the farm for farm stuff) and plain horse girls (likes horses and has a horse to ride occasionally but mostly just shovels money on upkeep).
I would not worry about the first two but I´ve encountered several of the last one and whats seems to connect them all is financial problems and they will gladly lasso you down that moneypit with them if you are not careefull.
What I've learned from today is that I must hide my taste in music, then guys will feel safe to approach me.

My wife only listen to pop, country and folk. She gets anxious everytime someone screems on a song, she can only tolerate rock/punk without screems. That's fine, we can find common ground, but when I drive alone I always turn the music up to some lorna or spiritbox in hiding ahah.

The internet/alt tiktok is obsessed with Hollywood undead this year…I was this year old when I first heard of HU & still haven’t given it a spin…I can listen to Drake but he has a lotta skips so I’m relieved I’m not *into* Drake…I can’t name an Alkaline Trio song w/o googling but as someone who knows people into these bands, why is this so accurate down to the ferret/reptile/neglected dogs ong😂I sometimes turn on nirvana live concert footage for that time travel capsule feel in the background/half paying attention so I know more songs than I can name (2 off the top w/o googling) & have never owned or had a desire to own Nirvana merch (who would the 💷 go to, KC has passed). I only buy merch from living bands putting in hard work, not some vague, sus estate.
