    Does Kimberly suck? James brins up a lot of fundamental reasons why Kimberly is bad. He didn't even get to cover a LOT of it, as there is actually so much more that he missed. Now NO ONE is bad in SF6, but if Kimberly isn't bottom 2 on the tier lists, he has no idea who would be!

    Sometimes I feel gaslit as a Kim main. FGC creators will say "Sure Kimberly is good." "Kimberly is better in season 2" "Kim can win." and the game is balanced well enough that is technically true, but that doesn’t make her good. Everything about her is so unsafe and reliant on knowledge checks and gimmicks, partnered with her inherent low damage makes her have to work harder than almost every other character. Yet no one is really talking the state she’s in and just keep saying she’s "good". Niche mixup twitter combos does not a strong character make. I feel like every character has a least one very strong gimmick, Bison’s launch has proven you don’t need to have everything if you have a few incredibly strong tools, but Kimberly feels like she’s lacking in that. What exactly about Kimberly is powerful? That’s what I want to know.

      Why do you play her? I know James picks a character he can reliably complain about, and I say that as a fan. But if you see nothing that makes your character stand out and strong... Why not switch
      Edit - I'm having fun wrt James I just don't have another answer for why he wouldn't play Cammy if he thing Kim is so bad. I don't get it. If a choice you're making every single time you load the game is making you miserable... Stop. Please.
      Someone could try to put together an argument against this video and they might be right or wrong
      But regardless you and James believe she's weak. Too weak. Please play someone else!

      @@jpVari These characters aren’t just mechanics we use to press buttons more effectively than the opponent. Kimberly has a lot of appealing traits in her playstyle and her design. I think most Kim mains still playing her love Kimberly’s design or maybe the bushinryu playstyle from Guy or Zeku. That’s why I still play her. I like Kimberly. She appeals to me. Playing her is fun. It can be hard to find a character that fits, lots of fans are still being underserved in that regard. Makoto fans must be having it rough. I may move on but it won’t feel as fun as playing Kimberly unless they introduce another fast, ninja style character. Maybe Ibuki will be good if she makes it in one day.

    All seriousness though, the Zangief matchup is no freaking joke, I’m always trying to either back/neutral jump from him to avoid the grab range or teleport/EX teleport to try and catch him slipping to get some hits in. I’m still ride or die for my Bushinryu Bae 🥷🔥🖤

      I'mma be real, Kim's teleport being two different colours is kinda bullshit for her. There's no mixup involved, I know exactly what she's gonna do depending on the smoke colour, its like if Faust's teleport attack had him hold up a sign that said which direction he was gonna hit you from before he teleports.
      A real simple buff for her would just be having the smoke be the same colour regardless of which of the two she uses.

      @@jimkuback5008True, you’re not wrong there, I do agree that the teleports are unfair, I really try to mix up when I use them. I’m definitely backing James on the spray can problem. It should be start with two cans then if you want to double her inventory, do the EX reload. Standard reload could cost no Drive Meter and however many cans are left after the round, they carry over to round 2.

      It wouldn't change anything. It doesn't matter which teleport she does, one single timing of a button can stop both options because they arrive at the same speeds. Blanka can just hit HK and stop either Teleport for huge damage. Other characters can just Jab and get Counter Hits and confirm into bigger combos regardless if she's in the air or on the ground. The color really changes nothing.

      @@UltraChenTV bmp works for either on Dhalsim, I don't know everyones answer but if Sim does everyone probably does. I was about to say if color is supposed to be an advantage it'd be an accessibility issue, anyway.

    I keep saying this but Kimberly should be able to get back to two cans with regular reload.
    That way we can manage cans in our gameplay rather than ex reload being The only way to get back to 2 cans.

    The "party starter" so called. But actually there is a BIG difference between a low party-starter and a high party-starter in that it strongly modulates the ability for your opponent to move since proximity guard doesnt exist in this game.

      Proximity Block is in SF6, it's just been majorly reduced from previous games.
      Drive Impact is a major use of Proximity Block but non-System Mechanic moves have it too. Guile's sweep is a great example, and some characters have had their Proximity Block hitboxes increased in patches like Ryu's Standing Light Kick in the Akuma update.

    Capcom LOVES to make cool, interesting looking and diverse new characters and then make them AWFUL so no one will play them. Then in SF7 when Kim/Jaime/Manon aren't in the game they can just say "no one played those characters anyways." 😢

    Her hidden variable needs a touch up too. You have to spend meter to appear from the sky. All her regular buttons go the same distance and place. She’s easy to predict

      You just KNOW at one point in the production the teleport went different distances and speeds and all that and it was too strong and they were like, "NOPE." Hahaha. Makes no sense how it works right now. The air teleport SHOULD just be free, or since it's an OD, you SHOULD have multiple locations or timings you can have. You're spending two bars! Should have more utility than it does!

      @@UltraChenTVagreed! 1000% which is crazy too because Dhalsim can teleport on the ground and the air whenever he wants…she’s a ninja, it should just be a part of of her kit. I referenced Hanzo from SamSho…..she needs those tools!

      Yeah. Honestly I don’t know how to buff her Teleports without making them too strong. But what sucks is that they are essentially useless as a result. But as fitting how I think they want you to play her, she’s basically just catching people off guard constantly. Everything she does is a risk, but since she has like 900 really risky options, they seem like they want her to just hope to catch people off guard constantly.

    Kimberly also feels like the character most damaged by nerfs. Beta Kim was being called the best in the game (which she wasn’t that was Ken) and Capcom nerfed her in several ways before launch because everyone was kneejerk salt posting Kim twitter clips. Now even if they reverted her back to her beta version she wouldn’t be top 5, but her recent ‘buffs" show that we’ll never go back to that Kim. I don’t know what Capcom is doing with her or what they’re afraid of with Kimberly. She may never be good.

    kimberly isnt unplayable but alot of what she does are knowledge/reaction test and not fundamentally good tools. Her mixups are super meter hungry and the reward is not high damaging. Any high level player will just hold parry and take the throw than guess the mixup unless in corner where she is deadly but dam near the entire cast is deadly in the corner. Kimberly having good corner game is not exceptional in sf6. She just isnt that good. If you want mixups play blanka, jp, aki. Their mixups are high damaging and they have good neutral. The only thing kim has going for her is her stmk. She has no threatening low so you can walk back on her, you cant use her hop to hop over normals like a divekick, they nerfed her run cancel pressure from beta, she has no reversal anymore. If you want a speedster play cammy. Kimberly doesnt fit any where unless you just like the character.

      Kim can apply nasty mixes and cycle through RPS quickly.
      There is a rhythm that a good bushinryu player has with mixes. She has great mix potential. You have to do the balancing act with her Dr meter.
      Considering that like 95% of the player base isn't tournament players, Kims win style runs players over.
      If you dont teleport/slide and use her buttons you'll increase your win rate by like 50%
      Kim's problems is the need to win multiple guesses in a row.

    Almost no one seems to know that Ryu actually has the farthest cr mk according to my research. It's also a frame slower than Ken's of course.
    Jp doesn't have a cancelable cr mk, he also doesn't have a 6f medium. Both things I've heard people say recently make it very hard to be strong

    Hey James, big fan and also Kim player, still working through the video but I wanted to leave a tip will reframe how you can approach Kim neutral. This is inspired by Punk's replays. As you probably know, punish counter advantage also allows moves to cancel into higher versions of specials than usual, and that's very important for vagabond edge since the 3 versions are very different. So when you play a whiff punish style with Kim's good movespeed, you can turn crouch jab into a M version knowdown or crMP (very low recovery medium) or stMK into her H launcher and that's enough to get the party started.

      @@UltraChenTV It's worth the practice! The whole idea is to get people to second guess pressing buttons that would keep you out. And getting that meterless H launcher means you always have the resources for her EX air grab for lots of damage and corner carry. You only need them to reconsider their max range options to get into that stMK xx drive rush space. The relevant BnB you really need is stMK xx drive rush crHP (adv) xx run-stop, crMP x2, stMP~stHP xx run-slide. Good luck!!

    I already saw how flawed Kimberly was before her launch nerfs that removed her EX DP and nerfed other moves. SF6
    Is a big buttons game and you can’t win tournaments with tiny buttons and no ex DP
    Gief eats these types of characters for breakfast so RIP

    Lily can HP Wind Clad to attack and regain a stock together.
    Jamie can throw and drink together. He can also end combo attacks with the drink.
    They should give Kimberly a special attack move that ends with her gaining a can.

    Kimberly could be 38th out of the 23 characters in the game and I'm still getting clapped. I can't stand her.
    However, when she's not winning 8 interactions in a row against me, you have really shown how bad she has it. The fact that Training Mode gaslights you is criminal.
    She should absolutely be able to reload while a can is out and I think she would probably probably be fine to start with 1 can in Rounds 2 and 3. And give her standard Throw damage.

      The problem is right now is she's all knowledge checks. They work because no one plays her, you have no MU experience against her, once you figure her out she's got nothing. She'd be less irritating if she was more common and you saw enough of her to get used to her. She'd be more common if she wasn't shit.

      @@G0rgar People keep repeating that, but i seen kim play in tournaments and do well regularly against tournament level players. Getting good results. Go watch the latest TNS. The high level Kim's aren't getting washed and when they lose its not something specific to the character.
      She can mix well and she fills the mental stack well enough that she will get her opening. On the condition the the bushinryu player is able to keep up the balance of pressure and reads.
      Kim has good offense. The issue is damage and the need for extra guesses.
      I would say neutral, but punk had her at almost legend 1 rank using her neutral.

    Also her 3MK is minus on hit unless at certain ranges, and spawns a big hurtbox above her leg while she's sliding. her j.2MP spawns a big hurtbox making it really easy to anti-air, and its minus on block, and has 8 frames of landing recovery.

      YUP. And there's even MORE on top of all that, like her counter hit 5LP is almost useless compared to every other character. It's +7 so NOTHING REACHES that can extend the combo. It's so dumb! Man, I didn't even remotely get as far as I needed to in this talk. Hahaha. I swear I need a part 2. LOL!

    I am Master rank with 10 characters so far, and I am best at playing Kimberley (she is my strongest character personally) but as a character she is so garbage that I don't even play with her lol

    Kim definitely needs help though I do feel like she has mix-up potential that's still untapped. The thing is parry can nullify so many mixups and you have to really condition the opponent in ways Kimberly has a difficult time doing just because her neutral and damage are so underwhelming.

    I also would like her lvl 2 to be adjustable long range close range and far range with heavy, light, and medium, like why not, it’s not usable as a I caught you in a lot of cases

      My extra idea was that Level 2 should grant her 4 Spray Cans if she lands it. Make it a pseudo Level 2 Install Super. But it's the ONLY way to get 4 cans. However, that way, if you get it, you can party for a brief period. And THEN on top of that, it's more worthy to use her Level 2 twice and rob yourself of your Level 3 powerup. Right now, I think her Level 2 is the worst in the game because it does no damage, has no invul, etc. AND it robs you of your Level 3.

    I struggle a lot with Kim and I thought I was the only one who thought maybe she needs more than what they gave her I have made things work I've made it to master but all the points that this amazing dude on UA-cam has pointed out makes a lot of sense I've been struggling a lot with her because everyone else has amazing buttons and Kimberly just doesn't you want to talk about having loyal fans Kimberly and Ed are the only characters I've even touched or played and I barely even played Ed Maybe a few games with him at most and that's it Kimberly is the most played character I have and I'm the biggest fan of this character I love her to death but she needs more normal damage she needs more Buffs she needs to be at least be like an all-rounder and yeah they did give us a few Buffs like you know the new stuff from season 2 but it's not enough to change some of the main problems this character has I'm still at Kimberly made until this day and I still ain't gave up on her even though I've lost a lot with her LOL I've won a lot too and I love this character I just hope we can get more Buffs with this character soon❤ She'll always be my baby

    and while they changed some of properties of her tatsu as an anti air, it still isn't a GOOD anti air like any shoto's. still find my self getting hit out of it from jump ins

    Tbh I'd rather have the can over these shitty medals that rarely are game determinative, and often mean I need to land a full extra hit if I decide to go that route. Like, sure you only get your 2-3k damage off a can mix, but it is still a relatively safe mix. The risk of a Manon command grab just really isn't in her favor til about 4, (which obviously means I had to have gotten at least 3 hits before that), and if they read it you may as well be dead. Plus the buff on level 3 rarely ever feels notable, because her level 2 is still just way more reliable. They may as well have just given Manon a gun.

      Yeah. In my actual rankings, I think I have Manon lower than Kim. When I’m salty, no one is worse than Kim. Hahaha!

    I would argue she is supposed to be that Millia or El Fuerte kind of character that has weaker tools than everyone else, but has strong mixups and oki because she gets more opportunities. I can see her being a huge problem, especially at online where you will just get mauled by a good Kimberly and feel like you never even got to play the game and died

    I still get blown up by her mixups, and sometimes it seems like she can combo off just about anything, maybe im wrong. But to give her more dmg or better normals would just make her too op or unfair imo because im already guessing for my life. Maybe i just need to understand her better and Chen has taught me a lot about her here so maybe i just need to practise more. But yea she can be annoying as hell at times at least for me.

      You just have to understand her mixups. Like her Teleports can only go to two spots (regular vs. OD) and the same timing of a button press blows up both. Non of her block strings into Teleport are safe: they are 100% counterable if you’re ready.
      And all her Spray Can mixups are still just Strike/Throw/Shimmy mixes, the same thing most characters can do and for a lot more damage than Kim. Etc. etc.
      But she FOR SURE destroys people who don’t understand her mixups. That’s the dangerous thing about her. If you haven’t studied her mixups, she is super scary and can just delete you so fast. But most of her mixups are fake and huge risks. She literally is just hoping you aren’t prepared for everything she can do so you won’t blow her up because you’re caught off guard.

      He's so good! He's my current inspiration. But like in the example I showed, I just hate that Kim does all this work for so little damage! Even with her damage back up to 100%, it's not a SIGNIFICANT like "omg she's bison now!" level of damage. But every little bit helps and there's NO reason to do so little damage, especially when you want to power up but the enemy doesn't have enough life to justify spending the Level 3 in Round 1 or Round 2.

      Jinrai is interesting. If you have an OD DP, Jinrai loses a LOT of luster. Although Ken can try to keep making you burn meter by making you OD DP him. But characters without an OD DP have to hold Jinrai mixups like Kim.
      For Kim’s fHK, however, EVERYONE gets to blow it up without spending any Drive Gauge AND get decent combos on her if you’ve labbed out a good Juggle. Honestly, I’d take Jinrai over fHK any day of the week.

      @UltraChenTV Without OD DP you aren't forced to hold the mix-up, you can OS it.
      If Ken does:
      Medium jinrai - hold down back and jab with a 4-6 frame delay (it may be 4-8 frame it's been a while since I've labbed) it way you block the low kick and jab the overhead.
      Every other jinrai kick you can mash jab and either won't come out due to it being a true blockstring like heavy jinray and OD (if low follow up is selected) or blow up the overhead with the jab.
      With that being said, I agree that Jinrai is better.

      True, I’ll have to practice that timing. But also, it’s not fast enough to punish it if you delay it too long and he does no follow up, which means he can try to PP you in return. Or even let you whiff and punish you as I’m sure there are ranges he can make it safe. But I should learn the late timing just to at least force that mixup.
      But again, no timing required for Kimberly. LOL! Just block and Jab. Like with Ken, she can do no jump follow-ups and PP the Jab, however, but it’s a HUGE risk for her because if she gets Thrown, she loses more damage that she can dish out after a PP. And that move has horrendous startup. :-(

      @UltraChenTV I just checked the window for medium jinrai, delay 4-9 frames.
      You are right that you can't punish if you delay it too much, but you can block the low, interrupt the overhead and heavy follow-up, that is guaranteed.
      The caveat is that if spaced from max range cr. Mk, the low follow-up can be delayed to the last follow-up frame to trap 4 and 5 frame delay, 6-9 you are safe from the other follow-ups.
      After your block your light kick can reach from most blockstrings ending in jinrai like jab jab or target combo mp to hp, only cr. Jab cr. Jab light kick into jinrai ends with the low being safe but you can interrupt with jab between cr. Jab to light kick
      Raw cr. Mk at max range and a little bit below, isn't punishable, so imo PP isn't that probable.
      It's a huge risk totally, but its at least a mindgame which may dissuade your opponent to press and continue with grab or to retreat safely.

      You have no idea HOW HARD I've tried to make that move work. I've labbed like 543625789 scenarios with it, creating theories of how to use it, ways to make it stronger, etc. And it still just gets me killed a lot. LOL!

    Honestly as a Kim main i'm fine with where she's at right now. While unfortunately she barely got anything huge in S2, they fixed a 'lot' of her previous issues with her moveset that she had in S1 and she feels more complete right now. The way they buffed her just makes me feel like Capcom is testing the waters with her and not give her anything too crazy yet. I'm still remaining hopeful around Season 3 that she'll be even better like Aki is this season, but i've been winning a lot more with her lately so i'm straight waiting for another year lol

      That's good. And I agree with you and the assessment from a lot of other people: Kim can become WAY too scary too easily with the wrong buff. Most of my Buff ideas, I think, are VERY reserved. They are mostly QoL than anything. So I agree that Capcom is being very wary with her. Also, Fighting Game devs hate giving set-play characters a lot of strength the way that they have making Grapplers strong. So I think there's a lot of egg shell walking with Kim buffs, even though as a set-play character she has as good of set-play as a lot of non-set-play characters. Hahaha.

      @@UltraChenTV Yeah your buff ideas are great, especially the can ideas since if she can reload while the can is out she'd be able to use cans more in neutral which would go great with S2 OD Izuna buff that also helps makes can setups in neutral a lot easier to do. And also like you implied how she needs a buff off the scaling of her can explosion, Kimberly just needs less scaling in general since like you showcased in the video her strike/throw mix reset archetype isn't enough.
      Also the way Capcom buffed for her SA2 just made it seems like they wanted it to be a combo ender instead of what it's intended to be which is an anti-projectile super, but there's no reason it can't be both? Like they increased the hitbox, but it's still not enough. My idea for that is if they buffed it where which button changes the trajectory of where here super lands, similar to Aki's SA2. But yeah overall the point i'm trying to make with my example buff is there's a lot of little things they could give Kim without making her busted, so you going into detail of how frustrating her weaknesses are is euphoric to hear.

      My idea for her Level 2? Since I think it’s the worst Level 2 in the game largely because of its few practical uses, on top of everything you’re robbing yourself of getting the Level 3 buff. So in essence, you’re nerfing yourself by using a Level 2. It sucks.
      So my idea is to make her Level 2 a pseudo-Install super. If she lands it, she resets instantly to 4 Spray Cans. It’ll be the only way to ever get 4 Spray Cans, and so she can party for a brief period, using them in Neutral to get a Spray Can mixup. And that way, using Level 2 twice in a match actually doesn’t hurt you anymore and makes up for never getting her Level 3 buff.

      It’s because Lucia and Kim are both so interesting. When I lab with Kim, I feel like I find new tech every time. And the tech is neat, they… just don’t do enough to make up for her inherent weaknesses.
      But Cammy and Gief (and AKI) are all in my back pocket. I still lab them and find stuff with them as well. I’m planning on taking all 3 for a spin in Ranked very soon, probably after EWC.

    You made a strong argument here, but let’s be honest… they need to be careful with any buffs. She can rocket from bottom one to demon way too quick. Also says something about the game when your bottom one can still mall you in the corner.

    I think james is going at this wrong. Kim has her run into overhead/low or plus 1 in neutral. A successful hit makes life miserable for your opponent. James is trying to play footsies with a character that isnt great at it. Gotta use the tools she has. It maybe be random, but that is a power she has over others.

      It’s all so risky. The overhead and flip kick take forever to start up. I get hit out of them constantly. And sliding is -12. Her running attacks are all VERY risky and get stuffed a lot.

      Honestly, if the Flip Kick ACTUALLY hit people out of the air, I’d think it would be better. Right now, people like to Neutral Jump against her because it blows up all her Run options. If that Flip Kick ACTUALLY anti-aired like it looks like it’s supposed to, I would use Run a lot more.

      Her crMK is actually really good. It's weak because it can't be canceled. But the nice thing about AKI is that she really doesn't care if you walk away from her. She has easy ways back in or to pressure you to come into her.

      Lily wasn’t even the worst at the end of Season 1, IMO. I think she’s much better in Season 2. She’s not top tier, but I think she can fight really well, now.

And they nerfed her crouching heavy punch. 💀 I was already mad enough when they took away he backward condor dive. Thawk had it in 4 but I guess she doesn't deserve tools lol.

      Since Akuma in SFIV, they determined they don’t want to let anyone jump backwards and do an Air Special Move (BLANKA SAYS HI). But I don’t think Lily is drastically improved, her Level 1 being faster gave her a lot of new combo routes which is nice. But I do think the overall balance shift helped Lily. Like I said, my opinion of her went up even before Season 2, so a lot of it is that. She’s just really annoying to fight against, especially the people who have really gotten good with her. I’m also biased because Lily blows Kim up really badly. At this point, she’s not the worst, I can at least say that much. The problem is that it’s hard for her to get out of the bottom 5 because everyone else is so strong. 16 characters are legit vying for top 5 leaving only 7 characters behind. Lily is definitely one of them and though she doesn’t feel bottom 5 to me, she sort of defaults into that spot. I do think Manon and Kim are worse than her and Honda and Jamie are debatable. But every character can win, even Kim and Manon. At this point it really is hard to say this game is unbalanced.
