IIRC there are accounts of muzzleloaders of old having touch hole liners. The liner is not a new invention, only the stainless steel material used to make them is new.

Funny about resistance to percussion locks among the mountain men. Not surprising. It's just like the people today who prefer cars with mechanical linkages, no computers, etc. I resolved my next vehicle will be a vintage one. I just bought a flintlock. ;-)
The lock is a "Durs Egg" by L&R, and it worked to perfection 2 days a go on a 70 yard shot at a nice mule deer. Winter meats in the freezer! Thanks for watching

Christian, I use a variety of things including bear oil, Wonder lube and Frog Oil. I try to stay away from petroleum based products.
Sounds like you're a mite confused. What I have is indeed a Flintlock Rifle. A musket would be a smoothbore without rifling, I have one of those also.
