- Researchers across UC San Diego are collaborating on a new project called WIFIRE to help firefighters get a jump on fast-moving wildfires. The project merges satellite imagery and real-time data from sensors in the field with computational techniques such as visualization and modeling to predict where and how fast a wildfire will spread. Participants include researchers at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), and the department of mechanical engineering.
very good use of BIG Data and good technology
Great use of BIG data and information technology.
It is why we need focus in development process Big Data and try to work in better precision ... Great Job from Team of San Diego University!
coursera brought me here
Didnt Australia had that kind of Technology? and see what had happened to them.
There are unpredicatable but crucial factors such as wind speed, direction, and strength that could shift in a moment, and so forward deployed firefighters to where the data "predicts" the fire will be might be roasted alive. I am not sure I would bet lives on these analytics.
Well, its better to place a bet on Math, Statistics and Machine Learning of Big Data Analytics, rather than place a bet on nothing (or unpredictable factors).
