His name is Mr Leon. But they call him uncle leon. He was my barber for my teenagers and adult years. Used to always go to his Barber shop, he was somebody who you can talk to and somebody who would help out in any way they can. It just pains me to see him like this, because he was never like this at all. I just pray for him and hope that he can find his way back.

But even in 2009 when I lived in that neighborhood, we had one summer with 15 murders just in our little area. They had our hood locked down with cops for about a month.

Charlestonian here! Gullah is a culture. Geechee is the language. It derived from the slaves. Consider it a good mix of an original AFRICAN American language. Every slave that entered the United States quarantined on Sullivans Island before being sent to other parts of the US for slave labor. Slaves were NOT sold at the market. That is a story that is sold to tourists. Slaves were sold at the Custom House, which backs up to the harbor. It provided easy access for Ships to come in and slaves to disembark efficiently. My suggestion would be for tourists to take tours with African American tour guides. THAT is where the TRUE history of Charleston will be taught.

As a white boy in a loud ass pickup truck, when my girl and I moved to F st downtown, I ain't gone lie. I was a lil worried. I'm born and raised chucktown but they do it different downtown. Neighbors were some of the nicest people, we all were flat broke, but if someone needed something, we all helped. All looked after each other. It's good to be a on guard when you in the mix but once every know you and know you're cool, you won't ever feel safer and more welcome than in the hood. I'm on D road now and there ain't no love on D road. Always keep it on me when I'm out on D.
