About five and a half years ago I found a baby mouse that had wandered away from his nest. His eyes hadn't opened yet so he was under two weeks old however he had fur so he was older than this one. My mom and I took care of him just like this video demonstrates. It was a lot of work but it was the most rewarding experience that I've ever had. He's still alive and is my little buddy to this day.
Gerald (the transexual mouse). That's because his testicles didn't show up for longer than it generally takes and I thought that he was a girl for a while and his name was Genevieve.
Thank you for having a tender heart enough to take care of one of the most vulnerable of creatures...and probably one of the least considered. Some people think, "Well, why is this person wasting time on a mouse when there are so many other more important things that need to be done in this world!?" I say, there are now over 7 billion people in the world...so enough people to take care of all creatures big and small!!
It is neat how people often think it is almost immoral to spend time and money on an animal. Animal keeping is a hobby like any other. People whose hobby is making model boats, skiing, travelling, old cars etc. never get the same criticism. People still like to separate themselves from other animals, to see humans as so much different, so above them and then there is the whole guilt question about us killing and eating them. It is almost like an obsession to keep animals at arms length with many people, they do not understand or respect those of us who enjoy caring for, learning about, being with animals. It is somehow seen as sinful when all it is is just another one of those things that makes life worth living, like art, music and sports. I suppose we show them a side of animals they do not want to see, that animals are aware, conscious and emotional beings just like us. Being kind to animals is actually of great importance. The more a culture respects all life, the better it will treat its humans.
I about lost it when you dabbed his mouth with a Q-tip after a particularly messy round of food from the brush. You are so gentle and kind with such a tiny life and it just warmed my heart; I have had rats and mice in the past (though never pinkies) so I know full well what wonderful creatures they are. I really admire how skillful and diligent you are, with everything so tidy and well organized, with what appears to be a custom made heat vent system (I apologize if I'm wrong!), and just so much love for this little guy. He was so lucky to have you as his mommy.
Thank you for giving this absolutely precious and fragile being a chance at life. The simple act of dabbing his cheeks clean in between servings shows just how much you care.
Stuart was destined to be snake food when he was a tiny baby. If I had not taken him away from his mother at the petstore he would not have had any life at all. A handraised mouse is one of the most magical pets you can have. They fully imprint on you, they think they are either human or that you are a giant mouse and trust you completely, They are so affectionate, they are like little dogs in a miniscule package. You love them so much and they love you.
Wow this preparation for one little guy , it nice to see people who values every life as being important even as small as this little guy . Every creature deserves to have a chance to survive , I wish there was more people like you .
How sweet of you to give this little guy the love and care he deserves! I had many gerbils years ago and was very attached to the whole family! Bless you for being so compassionate!
These make me miss my mice and rats. I miss those little paws and feeling a baby pink nose on my skin. :c They're such wonderful, amazing little creatures.
The music is making me laugh so hard idk if I just have the giggles but between the fact that this looks like a cute little fuckin pig worm hamster and the shave his belly with a rusty razor music I just can't stop laughing
ikr. I had the volume down when I first started watching this video but as soon as I saw your comment I turned up the volume and I couldn't stop giggling. it's so random but at the same time perfect for the video😂
Keana Astalos Old Irish 'Sea Shanty,' traceable to least 1st half of 19th century, probably much older. Interesting accompaniment to baby mouse feeding vid!🐭💕
it takes a lot patience , well patience of an angel and you are that angel. so sweet to watch this innocent little mouse being fed ever so gently. thank you for posting .
Your videos have been watched by me daily to make sure I'm getting my little guy to where he needs. He was bought for food for my tarantula and I was like "how cruel" and now I'm hand raising him. He's 9 days old today and we just got past the bloat and dehydration which scared me so bad. My 4 year old son is waking up for every feeding with me and loves our little guy so much. Thank you so much for helping us get past our first week with our little guy. We appreciate your help! and can't wait to give him his mouse mansion!
I will. I've raised rats. Never from pinky but from pretty young and love rats. I'm very excited to try a mouse. He's very sweet. He calms right down in my 4 year Olds Hands
You are such a caring person. Seeing your video where you picked him up from the store, seeing his siblings lying down in the same pile of baby mice with their loving mother circling them, and knowing their fate makes me sad.... but at least you gave Stuart a good life.
We are on Day 4 with two little pinkies. My son found them on the floor of my husband's auto shop; they must have fallen out of a car. We are grateful for your video and others we've watched to teach us about the proper care and equipment for these little creatures. Once we learned about the "milk spot", we felt more confident knowing when they were full. We already love them so much, and the broken sleep is so worth it.
You just amaze me with the miracles you work with these adorable little mice! I have learned so much from watching them. Now i am currently working towards getting together a little mouse house dream home of my own. You have inspired me to have mice again. Thank you for your videos! I am glad i found your channel. I will continue to watch and learn. PS Have you written a mouse care book, if not you should think about it.
@@hkgglll6299 do you even know grammar and did you have your period or sleep on the wrong side of the bed and it was a joke. People can't take one joke for the life of em 😂
Oh, why didn't I think of the paintbrush?? I used a syringe for everything, and the smallest I could find was still too big. I accidentally applied a smidgen too much force trying to help one latch on to the end... that was the last straw for me. They were not just any sort of mouse, but an endangered subspecies. Peebles jumping mice do not live in burrows, but prefer to nest in thickets above ground, due to competition for space from prairie dogs. Ten years ago, my mother let her backyard go completely to seed for a year, and had become somewhat infested with the mice. Sadly, as I was clearing things for her, I accidentally exposed several nests, scarring the parents away. My mother didn't care and just wanted the place cleaned up, so there was no time to leave the babies somewhere the parents might find them. I found five litters, and rescued them all, but ended up chasing all the parents away, but if I didn't help them, then mom may have killed them outright. However, it is grueling caring for one, let alone 20, and I lost half of them before I got desperate and did something not strictly legal. I took them to the local petstore and told them they were orphans of a pet mouse. This lie was necessary as wild and domestic mice are not supposed to mix in a petstore, but what else could I do? They were skilled at getting nursing mice to accept orphans, and pinkies of different species mostly look alike. They survived, and apparently went on to be adopted.
Elder Millennial you did the right thing. it was brave of you to realize you couldn’t care for them yourself, and there wasn’t much of an option for you other than to give them to the pet store
I raised two baby mice that I found abandoned in a shed I was cleaning out. Raised them and they survived, had to wake up every two hours to feed them but when they opened their eyes it was such an amazing rewarding feeling.
wow you are so knowledgeable I didn't know it was that hard to look after feeders/baby mice! I live in newzealand what do you think the best sort of mouse is?
CreekValleyCritters Beautiful clip. We are in mourning over our wee chap (mouse). 'The Amazing Mr Gru' He passed away this week, at the age of two and a half years. Incredible wee beings, sooo intelligent and affectionate !! He would come when called and loved kisses and cuddles :) He was never locked in a cage (they hate that), had his own bachelor pad !!
John Doe who could possibly imagine how wonderful these little creatures are unless they have had a pet. Impossible to understand, no? I always smile at T. S. Elliot's (?) "And I believe a mouse is miracle enough to stagger a sextillion infidels" (from memory only).
This was incredibly helpful. I've been tying to feed a newborn mouse but failing miserably... Pinkie had her best meal just after watching this, thank thank thank you!
Because it is an old children's song and because I had to wake up very early to feed him.......it also just seemed to fit, it was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid and this musician does an especially good job of it.
My baby rats were ensconced inside my bra until they were old enough to go four hours between feedings. Then I was able to keep them at home inside their incubator until I fed them on my lunch break. During their stay in my bra, I got pretty creative with hiding their formula in the employee bathroom and sneaking in feedings.

The small, soft paintbrush idea is amazing and practical for a tiny animal! I've only fed kittens with a dropper, and even that was sometimes hard. Thank you for this educational video, though as you say it's not easy to raise a little mouse. Nevertheless I was very uplifted and inspired. I love the Drunken Sailor song too! :)
+Vanessa's Animal Physically mice are similar enough to us that they are the main animal used in researching human diseases. Mentally they are similar enough that they are used to research human mental illnesses and conditions. They share the same baseline intelligence that all mammals have. We humans have just elaborated on that, this is what makes us so much more intelligent, but at our core we are the same as all mammals in terms of emotions, thinking processes and social behavior.
Yessss we are very similar when we are little embryos, even when we are fetuses. Also we share a lot of genes (I don't remember what percentage though)
+Bobsfog Pie When I got Stuart, I was planning to use him as a UA-cam ambassador for his species, something that was very much needed considering how many incredibly cruel videos are out there about mice. A hand raised mouse makes the best mousy ambassador, they grow up thinking they are human and can show the intelligence, awareness and affectionate nature of mice the best. If I had not bought Stuart he would have become snake food within a few days. I could not take the rest of his family because I only had time, space and money for one at that moment. When Stuart was born there was a very good employee at the pet store. Although the mice were being sold for snake food, he was taking a lot of trouble with the breeding of them and caring for them better than most pet stores. I think this may have been one reason why Stuart was such a wonderfully good natured, beautiful and healthy mouse. But when the employee moved away, things became very bad for the mice and most died of neglect. I don't think things went well for Stuart's mom, but at least one of her babies got to live a long, full and very meaningful life, showing the world how wonderful mice really are and making the world a slightly better place for mice.
CreekValleyCritters did you name Matilda after the movie matilda? If so, then I am assuming the petstore would be her horrible parents, the snake would be her mean principal and you would be the teacher who adopts matilda and then they just like happily?
sebastian salazar Umm its a book and its by Roald Dahl (sorry if I spelled it wrong... It's by the same person who wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)
I loved the song! Also, very great instructional video. I am not ready to try my hand at hand-raising a baby mouse, but I will if it needs to be done. Thank you so much.
So far so good! Havnt lost any babies and they almost have eyes open! Im so excited my son and daughter have been helping with the feeding cleaning etc. . So yes great videos thank you!
Thank you so much. I think you just saved a little pinky mouse by teaching me what to do. When he opened his mouth for the first time with a paint brush dipped in pediatric electrolytes I was so happy.
How cute and you are so caring. God bless you! I remember clearly when I was a child in india my mom discovered a nest full of baby mice.I wanted to put them back for their mom to raise them and my mother with depraved indifference threw them out and within minutes they were snatched up by an eagle. I was shocked and angry at my mom for days. Good of you to be so caring.
Usually I hate when cute animals videos has their audio replaced with some stupid song, but in this case, music so cute and so fitting to the video, I love it.

I don't think things went well for Stuart's mom, but at least one of her babies got to live a long, full and very meaningful life, showing the world how wonderful mice really are and making the world a slightly better place for mice.
+CreekValleyCritters love u
+CreekValleyCritters and the song
Bless you for taking great care of these beautiful little critters...❤️ :')
Did you name Stuart after the movie Stuart?
Julietthekiller 445 Yes, except that I called him Little Stuart and not Stuart Little :)
CreekValleyCritters did you name Matilda after the movie matilda? If so, then I am assuming the petstore would be her horrible parents, the snake would be her mean principal and you would be the teacher who adopts matilda and then they just like happily?
sebastian salazar That's a movie? I thought it was just a book!
Sam B it's a book? I thought it was just a movie😂 (no joke)
sebastian salazar Umm its a book and its by Roald Dahl (sorry if I spelled it wrong... It's by the same person who wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)
Wow its pretty sweet and amazing that he is dedicating all his time to take care of baby Stuart I hope u are as well as him
he/she that mice is so cute
I loved the song! Also, very great instructional video. I am not ready to try my hand at hand-raising a baby mouse, but I will if it needs to be done.
Thank you so much.
Omg so cute i never knew that mice can be so adorablely cute. 🐁😍
Wonderful video, I'm glad to see how much love the person gives to the baby mouse.
So happy this baby has a good home. A life is a life no matter how small. :)
you are so kind giving away all your time for little adorable Stuart 😄😊💕💜💘
He is so adorable......sooo tiny and fragile - I'd be scared of hurting the little bebe. 💗💗💗
We used to have a fancy rat but he was already grown when we bought him. Such a cute and lovely thing, he never bit us.
Have you checked out my video series 'Raising a Baby Mouse 1-10' ? It goes into much more detail on how to raise a baby mouse......
I love that u named him little Stuart that was my favorite movie as a kid
How cute and you are so caring. God bless you! I remember clearly when I was a child in india my mom discovered a nest full of baby mice.I wanted to put them back for their mom to raise them and my mother with depraved indifference threw them out and within minutes they were snatched up by an eagle. I was shocked and angry at my mom for days. Good of you to be so caring.
Usually I hate when cute animals videos has their audio replaced with some stupid song, but in this case, music so cute and so fitting to the video, I love it.
You're an amazing person!! Thank you for taking such good care of little stuart!
Getting my babies tomorrow so excited!!!!!!
