Sounds like owner was trying to lull them to sleep with easy-listening music.

Mama’s been feeding them well…fat pink tummies! Years ago friends had squirrels living in their attic. They tried several live traps. The squirrels happily ate the peanut butter and bread, the cheese, etc., without triggering the traps and continued to keep my friends awake playing chase at night above the bedrooms. So, my friend bought an expensive system with speakers guaranteed to emit a noise people couldn’t hear but squirrels would hate. The squirrels hated it…immediately chewed through the cords hooked up to the speakers. No fried squirrels but very dead speakers. I even looked in their attic to see the damage done by the squirrels. Two were up there and proceeded to curse me in squirrel. I beat a hasty retreat and told my friend they were killer squirrels, a la Monty Python and to give them the attic, lol. Eventually they contacted a no kill service like you provide, which managed to evict the squirrels and squirrel proof the attic.

Maybe Guns and Roses blasting out of the radio might have done it.

Haaaaaa yep that music wasn’t to scary haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. I thought it was cute the owner trying to do something to get her and the babies to leave. They tried but it didn’t work.

The thick warm wool in the attic is of course very cosy for the raccoons.
Here in Germany, they used a material called "glass wool" for this kind of thermal insulation.
However, it has a lot of tiny glass splinters inside the pressed layer of cotton wool.
But I don't know what the purpose of the glass splinters was.
I also don't know if this pressed glass wadding is still used today.
In any case, these small glass splinters caused a terrible itching on the skin, and you probably never got rid of the glass splinters in your skin.
It must have been torture for animals to build their nests in such dangerous glass wool.
Here in the video, it seems to have been normal cotton wool that is compatible with living bodies.
Nevertheless, it's good that the little raccoons are out of there.
Thank you very much for your work !

pink glass wool is still used in the US called fiberglass. Nasty stuff to handle!

You have to cover your arms and hands well when working with it. Otherwise, the tiny glass splinters in the material will quickly pierce the skin and remain there.
      They then cause severe itching.
It's a shame that this stuff is still around.

Young lady you are good at what you do. You guys be careful with the nails pointing down. You should have a battery powered leaf blower to dust off the insulation on your clothes.

I would bet all that insulation would dampen most noise that speaker was making. From the sound it was making, it was probably more soothing than anything. It might be effective with like...oh Death Metal or something, but then you have a speaker playing death metal in your attic.

Any advice on raccoons that keep tearing the soffit apart to get in? Our soffits are becoming more and more covered in wire mesh from all the destruction to get in. I really wish home builders/designers would design homes better, where it’s not so easy for critters to get in.
We have to evict yet another batch of raccoons this weekend 😫

I’m sure the insulation isn’t good for the babies to breathe on but momma isn’t too concerned so long as they’re safe at that moment

It took her 3 hours to come back for #2! I hate to think Mom has to hurry and find an alternate den site away from predators in such a short time.

    • @falcon2287
      @falcon2287 8 місяців тому +1

Raccoons always have several dens - when they don't have young they move between dens every few days so their behaviors don't become predictable. So momma would have several locations where she can move her babies. She won't have to hunt for a spot, but she might visit several locations with the first "rescuee" to decide on which alternate den is best.

You are a genius the way you designed that baby box. It works perfectly. I remember when you first came out with them. I had left a comment that you should get the design patented. Curious if you did? You could sell them to other companies around the world. Along with your whole technique, it would make the entire process more successful and safe for so many. ❤

Listen to the calming music they thought was going to bother the raccoon 😂. I would assume something like heavy metal or rap would do the trick. Not something that would lull the raccoon and her babies to sleep every night…lol
