Hey guys, I really enjoy the show.
I'm a 32 year old dad, I painted Warhammer when I was younger but gave up the hobby a while ago, unfortunately I still don't paint now but I enjoy drawing some Warhammer inspired things.
More than anything I enjoy seeing 3 grown men just truly enjoying something theyre passionate about.
Keep doing what youre doing. You're bringing joy to many people :)
That’s a super kind comment, thanks so much - Geoff
@thepaintingphase thanks for the mention guys, and in the same breath as Artis Opus and Richard Grey too
probably the last time I’ll be in that group 😂
Another brilliant vid, keep ‘em coming!
You’re welcome.
Or.... this is the First Time
Fun fact: you can play the Darktide board game solo, but can't do that in the vidya game...took them a while to even get you to play with one mate and two AI bots.
😂🤣😂
Good to see Ross on the team. I really like the Skaven but hey, I like Mordheim . Those Sisters look pretty cool too :) I have to say though, GW [inflation or not] are overpriced but hey, if you like their models either pay or move to another miniature supplier. They could be worse, Kingdom of Death for instance :)
I like to see you in the comments too!
I play gloomhaven too, and its roughly £100 but its also an absolute metric ton of cards, tokens, counters etc and 18 models? (albeit not very good quality.) but it definitely seems very much worth the money as there's 100+ hours of content?
As an American the square space is ad with gunshots the whole time was really relatable and I really appreciate you incorporating my culture like that
"Thanks butt bot" superb coloured sprues are a big no for any recycling programmes they are trying to initiate, also altering colours in injection moulding can require different machine setups to cast the same mould could be to keep machine setups standardised to some degree.
A bit of a small snapshot, but my local says that of the 40k stuff sells best. Followed by The Old World, then he says that its Sigmar followed by Middle Earth, Bloodbowl Epic and Heresy all about as much as eachother.
I must say, that I was sad when peachy left, as it felt like you needed a third to bounce off of, but you have found your Mommy Bear, Baby Bear and Daddy Bear is no longer alone :D
Who is who in this analogy lol?
What’s for dinner Mum?
@@FauxHammer You forgot my comment from a few weeks ago, huh? we all know Pat is Baby Bear with his gingy beard.. and Geoff is Daddy with his salt n Peppa
@@MarkOfTzeentch Forgive me, it's been a long few weeks!
I'll take Mommy Bear!
Ross, I think you’ll find that’s my job.
Whats the name of the model at 49:03 sounds like Lord Varalant but i don't get any hits in google?
It’s called A Lord-Veritant. Hope that helps.
The GSC releases where tepid at best, we needed something to ‘pad out’ the armies, like a couple more unique tyranids to chuck in the mix or something?
All parts in the prior sister kits, minus the stone to stand on.
We nerds will still buy the plastic...but what if we reduce our hobby budget by 15-20% and put that into shares?
Space Marine army in a box was a battle company with rhinos released in 2007 with initial Apocalypse launch. Think it was imaginatively called “Space Marine Battle Company”😂
106 marines, and 10 rhinos I think?
@@Sam-vs2es That's so stupid!
I want it!
Yep! I had one of those boxes and sold them off as soon as Primaris landed. There was also a Demi-company box with half a company of SMs.
Yep they screwed the 2E launch box series (sacrosanct) and retired them. It sucks balls because it is a terrible precedent.
The cost thing is a major issue that because of shareholders/short term planning, kids aren't able to get into it. Even if one kid's parents can afford it it's unlikely many of their peers will be into. Compare with a lot more cheaper and more accessible other wargames. The game is more expensive because more models are needed as point shinkflation happens. Even a necromunda basic gang (before rules or upgrades) is close to E50
I sympathise for those who can't afford the hobby. However this argument never makes sense to me and i dont think holds much weight at all. Even in the early 2000s it wasn't ideal for kids to get into. Recent price rises haven't made it any harder for kids to get into.
Looking at the current offerings, I'd argue its even a bit easier. You don't have to buy hundreds of models anymore, you can play lots of skirmish level games now.
@@seanclarke8015 true, the issue is that between models, paints and overpriced rulebooks it's *easier* for a kid to get a console. They also have to find other players whereas for call of duty 74 (or whatever version they're on by now) you just connect to the internet. That being said models rarely get outdated
@OldManRogers Maybe it is, but then it turns into preference of the consumer and any evidence based on that is entirely anecdotal, with little (if at all) correlation between inflation in GW price and new customer uptake.
@@seanclarke8015 true, just at our youth club games group we are seeing way more DND and much less wargaming
came for the good vibe, stayed for the fists (probably Imperial and Crimson) and the "show me on your wallet" ^^
I've just bought the 41st millennium kill team starter set for just over £60 delivered next day , I was happy getting 2 units, scenery, core book, recruit edition, card tokens, play board paper , measuring devices in plastic, dice , the way I see it I got plenty extra when I could have bought 2 units £32.50 each would cost me £65
The key fob thing definitely works. Every foot counts when you need to start your car in a Canadian winter🤣
The first box of plastic miniatures I bought from Games Worksop was in the 80s for fantasy. It was £9.95 for 60 miniatures.
🙀🙀🙀
And how did that compare to your income at the time?
@@_threepointedcircle_ I was a teenager, so that was roughly about half a months worth of paper round money. So for me it was quite a lot but for an adult it'd have been pretty cheap.
@@Big_Blue_Monkey im sure it was a tenner for 30 plastic marines a looonnnggg time ago. im trying to remember if that was a lot of money. im sure blood bowl (version2 with the polystyrene pitch) was like 20quid aswell. i remember my late dad buying me both blood bowl and advanced space crusade from gw liverpool i think and it being like 40 or 50 quid.
first white dwarf is 116 by the way!!
@@LeeRiley-q8e I did say it was in the 80s which is nearly 40years ago
GW - Both Fists? 🤔
PH - Yes. One Imperial and the other Crimson.
GW - Welcome to the Influencer Program.
Toby Longworth’s but Johnathan Keeble is the GOAT I think.
I build gundam so I'm always doing a double cut ,extra clipping but it does make for a better cut
It's good having Ross on the team , having someone that is more focused on painting rather than playing
Ah now they did do a sale in the 90s to commemorate the 100th uk store in Warrington, I was there, and there was up to 50% off. You spent 100 you got a beautiful print by mark gibbons and could pick up a legion of the damned model, I have the art print still
Has it been 2 years of Painting Phase?????
I know, it feels like about 10, we can only apologise.
If you enjoy the Dan Abnett repeat phrases, then just wait until you get to the Burning of Prospero in the Horus Heresy series!
Well unfortunately Geoff just knocked himself off the Christmas card list, I love the Benefictus!! 🤣
Damn it!
Dark Imperium launch box sprues were grey- the sprues in the 3 starter sets were coloured, as well as imperium magazine
I swear mine were coloured. But I could be remembering the magazine more than the box
I thought the bare SoB head looks more like Klaus Kinski than BoJo.
Good shout but maybe showing your age (and my age for knowing).
@@thepaintingphase Definitely.
Wow kinski or Johnson whose more disturbing a person?
I haven't bought any brand new Warhammer for a few years now, but that's mostly because I've been slowly stripping and repainting all the old models I started collecting more than 10 years ago.
I think my cuticles are now permanently dyed from the amount of Isopropyl-dissolved paint I've been scrubbing off with a old toothbrush. 😆
Pat, the collect the dinosaur has given me massive flashbacks because I had the same one! Magazine every week with a bit of a glow in the dark T-Rex skeleton to collect. I found all the magazines not long ago, no sign of the t-rex though!!
I believe it's pronounced 'canoeist'
😂🤣😂
I was so excited for warhammer fest and wow did it suck
Battle Company in a Box. 100 first born plus command and vehicles. But also a lot of Apocalypse sized boxes for battle forces and squadron.
Necromunda Secundus isn't a separate game, it's Necromunda's next edition.
Oh right, thanks for the update. Much appreciated.
Listened to this while assembling my third Space Marine Heroes (Justian’s) model. I dunno why I never thought of clipping the push fit pegs off. Vastly improved the building process
You’re very welcome and thanks for listening to the show.
Great episode and chat as always lads, love it 👊
Great video chaps. Ross looks like a great addition to the team ❤
Thanks so much Zak.
I purposely shower before the show! I’m usually a mess. But thanks!
The algorithm of hate…hate of any hobby barriers. GW gatekeeping their own hobby with high prices😿
Great new team member, suggested name change to the Beard Phase? 😊
Very kind, we love having Ross on board. The Beard Phase is definitely on point!
Thanks Kindly, but I can't grow a real beard though, I am insanely envious of both Pat and Geoff..
in that order
That robot would make a good stand in for the iron man robot in necromunda, as it's not available. We usually use the robot from Blackstone. That thremodon is better.
One thing with the colored minis is that they can be hard to prime white/light gray without covering up details. I did two thin spray coats on my old Space Hulk Space Marines with a white primer from Games Workshop and the red ones still look slightly pink. I will be using blues on them so it will probably turn out fine in the end, so not worried.
Great show - and I almost spat my coffee at ‘I can stretch to three fists and two fingers’ ! 😂
So good…
I compare prices to foodcost. A weeks worth of food.. or this one 15cm plastic thing... 🤔
I only ever compare hobby to hobby. Comparing Hobby to anything important, should never stack in hobby’s favour.
Ah, the battlecry of a people, " 'ow much?"
Boris Johnson… Or Gary Bucci from Point Break?
Oh that’s a damn good shout - Geoff
Warhammer Chaos and Conquest on mobile was my gateway into Warhammer
and we are...The Painting Avengers! hmm...not quite the punch.
You’re not wrong!
Fantastic! I can paint while listening to your banter. ❤
Colored plastic is a thing with some products. The 6 Warhammer Underworlds warbands in my pile of shame are all different color. Also the Warcry starter set Crypt of Blood comes with blue and red sprues. They are both push-fit, although you still need clippers... Those are pretty beginner friendly.
For 40K or AOS maybe they could use different color per faction... although that'd ruin the sprue + upgrade sprue thing with some kits. (ehm... space marines ehm...)
I know what else you do Ross , I'll have to see who I subscribed to first , I have a diddy print farm now , thought I would stop buying boxed miniatures from Warhammer, bandai, airfix, tamiya but nope I've actually bought kill team starter set since I had either of my printers running
GW has pushed me to One Page Rules 100% now. The constant rising of prices has just pushed 3d printing to the forefront for me. Their models are not that great when comparing prices and time/hassle to resin printing.
I made a fairly hefty Anvils of the Heldenhammer stormhost using the first 2 edition storm cast sets. Now they've been pretty much erased I have no real use for the majority of them. As a result I'm not investing in 4th edition, regardless how much I like the models designed for the new edition.
“Show us in the comments where Warhammer touched you”
Proceeds to show you my last 4 wallets I’ve gone through which are all empty aside from moths 😢
1:11:40 I know it's not for everyone, but OPR has Ratmen in their 40k equivalent games :)
*Seeing the title of this video*
Ah, I see Yorkshire calls us to war again.
Nighthaunt was the second edition launch xx
The first warhammer model I purchased with my pocket money was a metal Eldar Jet Bike.. it got stuck together with blue tak & painted with Humbrol tins of paint.
When talking about the "hours derived per purchase", it's a bad argument. You talk about the time "you get to spend" building and painting the miniatures, then playing the game. I don't think I have met anyone that loves to build, paint AND play, most people fall into one or two of those categories. There ware whole industries that have developed for building and painting. It's like saying "I bought this video game and I GET to spend hours 3D designing the character models in the game, then MORE hours drawing up the skins for them and then I get to play it too". Sure, some people like that, but it's not for everyone and, as always, it comes down to the competition. What does the competition sell the same/similar product for? Almost universally less.
Yeah that’s fair… but let’s say your hobby is the building and painting as mine is. I still get numerous hours from a project….
If you play the game and don’t like that earlier part. Do you not still get those hours from playing?
@@FauxHammer yea, sure. But in the case of enjoying the playing but not the modelling/painting, the modelling/painting part doesn’t add to the value proposition, it actually detracts from it.
I can understand why someone who is a modeller/painter would see it as a reasonable value proposition.
As a collector I need to have all of the cool things and, as an Australian, it’s too damn expensive 😂
Unpopular Opinion: The price increase is fine.
I know this is a hard hobby to pay for, for some. But the majority of people out there can pay, and will pay the higher price. Everybody wants more for less but that is not looking at the hobby from the point of view of business, both GW AND your FLGS or whoever you order from online. Clearly, these are not just 'toy soldiers' although we playfully refer to them as such. Toy soldiers, if anyone wants them, are the melted things you get at the dollar store. What you get from GW is still a quite high quality product, and it is priced accordingly, despite lamentations.
I stopped buying. I only 3d print or buy from recasters now. It's too expensive, and the 3rd party bits are better when you don't play ultramarines.
Okay listen dude three big chaos knights for $130 Canadian and going UP in June is indefensible.
Hi James Workshop 🙄
@@matjov lol! Stop crying, you buy the game, I could say the same to you :)
@@KelRiever heard of 2nd hand or printing? 🙄
Is there a painting video coming at all?
Yes, should be one soon.
2:01:08 No we don’t - and Games Workshop KNOWS this!
