Jon’s inspired me to play Oblivion myself and I had a similar reaction to that Sirens quest. This game has a lot more quest variety than Skyrim but same lack of real choice
Hey Jon, something you ought to know, percentages in Oblivion are additive by nature. So one piece of gear at 30% is good, two pieces at 30% each is 60%... fun stuff happens at anything above 100%.
Near Anvil out in the water you can find a glass helmet called Finn's Gleam, I think, and if I remember correctly it does detect life, water breathing and night eye. First piece of your glass set?
Jon - The sigil stones are randomly picked when you close the gate. You could save the game before grabbing it and save-scum until you get the one you want. Really good way to max out your magika.
There are a lot of mythic dawn agents across the land, and not all are obvious. There are many sleeper agents waiting to ambush you in town as well as out in the wilds of Tamriel.
Jon Ohteese in the chapel of Arkey in Cheydenhal is the other advanced restoration trainer. She only dies if you complete the sword of the crusader. Alternatively you can use a drain restoration on self spell to lower your restoration low enough to use Cirroc in Bruma or Marie Palielle in Skingrad. Also when you completed the pilgrimage quest you became a member of the church faction so you can enter the chapel basement without trespassing.
Jon to train restoration craft a spell that both deals damage to self and heals. This lets you grind up restoration. It feels a bit cheesy, but arguably not more so than paying a trainer.
hey Jon, if you don't have any enemies around and can wait an hour, that'll usually full-heal you and follower NPCs because you're actively regenning health during that time. it's a nice way to keep everyone topped up... just don't do it outside with that whole Vampire thing you got going on.
You still got two advanced Restoration trainers that can help you, even with two other trainers having died. Those trainers are Marz from Bravil's chapel of Mara, and Ohtesse from Cheydinhal's chapel of Arkay.
Jon, Marz in Brazil chapel will give you the master restoration trainer quest, but you may want to pick that up before continuing further in the Knights of the Nine questline.
On the topic of trainers: if you ever want to have master training you'll need the unofficial DLC patches (not just the ones for base oblivion and shivering isles, but a third, also created by the same author). If you want to train to 70 using trainers it is possible: the Knights of the Nine DLC killed both advanced trainers but will also provide replacements
I like how Jon's lamenting his slow restoration leveling, but still uses the healing spell equivalent to the healing power of a lightly scented candle.
The main problem I could see with joining the sirens from a game design perspective is that their low-risk methods would probably get boring quickly. Plus the payout of robbing a couple of people a night and splitting the proceeds with a handful of people probably wouldn't earn the profits that a player has come to expect. I could imagine a thieve's guild quest to either absorb them or break them up.
I believe Marz in the great chapel of Mara in bravil should be able to train you. On an unrelated note there’s a boat-inn in the waterfront district that you should sleep in, it really is such an interesting experience.
the way to level up restoration in this game is creating a spell that heals 3hp for 1 second, then placing something on your keyboard so it keeps casting and go have a walk or something
I recommend the Refractionless Chameleon mod to change the chameleon affect to use alpha translucency instead. It's much better. Chameleon is a cool effect, but high levels of it completely breaks the game. You can keep hitting enemies while they never respond, because they don't know who is hitting them.
I also had a similar reaction to Jon upon putting on my first Chameleon gear. I had sold half my stuff and did some dungeon crawling to afford that Spectre Ring in the Imperial City. As soon as I put it on I thought “this is terrible. I hate this”. I play these games in third person and I prefer how Fallout 4 handled Chameleon, that was perfect
Hey Jon you probably won't see this but if you want better gear you can find a dungeon that has only Humanoid type enemies in your case since you're going for light armour bandits and just periodically go back and slaughter everybody just in case someone has good gear. There are two types of hostile humanoids 1 is bandits who carry light armour and the other is Marauders who carry heavy armour.
Jon, Invisibility isn’t actually “true” invisibility and can be impacted by your stealth skill and footsteps. Chameleon works differently and actually makes you invisible at 100% where they cannot see you even if you jump around in the air, they may know someone’s there but they’ll never find you. It’s completely game breaking.
I had to poke around to find this info so it's second hand (I don't really use the training system in scrolls games) so to start I found this If you have installed Knights of the Nine, it is possible to permanently lose the reference for Master-level Restoration training as both of the advanced trainers, Marz and Ohtesse, suffer from scripted deaths as you progress through the questline and their replacements will not provide the necessary dialogue, though they will still offer advanced training. And this The two advanced trainers who can give you the master training reference necessary to start this quest are Marz in the Great Chapel of Mara in Bravil and Ohtesse in the Great Chapel of Arkay in Cheydinhal. They will direct you to Oleta, a citizen of Kvatch. Oleta's requirement before she will provide training is that you must complete The Battle for Castle Kvatch quest. I assume the advanced trainers are expert and journaymen respectively but I'm not sure as I said training is not really my thing
Has anyone told you yet that your spells don't have to affect a target to train you? You can just spam restoration or destruction spells even if there's nothing to heal/hurt and it will still level you.
Could you console command your way around the Restoration quest, much like you can in Skyrim? Look up the quest ID and the flag for the first stage of the Master quest, and set it to active? Not sure if it's as doable in Oblivion as Skyrim, but would be worth looking into?

You still got two advanced Restoration trainers that can help you, even with two other trainers having died. Those trainers are Marz from Bravil's chapel of Mara, and Ohtesse from Cheydinhal's chapel of Arkay.
Ohtesse in the cheydinal Chapel is a restoration trainer
Jon, Marz in Brazil chapel will give you the master restoration trainer quest, but you may want to pick that up before continuing further in the Knights of the Nine questline.
On the topic of trainers: if you ever want to have master training you'll need the unofficial DLC patches (not just the ones for base oblivion and shivering isles, but a third, also created by the same author). If you want to train to 70 using trainers it is possible: the Knights of the Nine DLC killed both advanced trainers but will also provide replacements
Jon - why haven't you bought or made a better healing spell yet?
He has, he just doesn't use it.
@@RaunienTheFirst Might be even more infuriating. Maybe for training since restoration is broken. . .
Jon out here power leveling Maglir
Jon, Ohtesse in Chydinhal should be able to train you in restoration.
I like how Jon's lamenting his slow restoration leveling, but still uses the healing spell equivalent to the healing power of a lightly scented candle.
I believe that the amount of exp you get per spell doesn’t relate to how much you heal, so weaker spells are better for leveling
@@yuvalhuck1 Oh really? I must be thinking of Skyrim? Or am I just making that up?
Jon calling Maglir his apprentice seems fitting considering what would ultimately happen to Maglir * battle of heroes plays in background *
I was just not expecting the cat girl comment I almost choked laughing
Maglir did well enough but can nvr compare to benor lol thx for yet another great vid Jon as always
"they've got a Kahijiit, obviously for people who are more into cat girls"
Damn, my only weakness!
Competing the nights of the 9 quest line will bring another set of priest to the chapel so you could train that way
Jon, Invisibility isn’t actually “true” invisibility and can be impacted by your stealth skill and footsteps. Chameleon works differently and actually makes you invisible at 100% where they cannot see you even if you jump around in the air, they may know someone’s there but they’ll never find you. It’s completely game breaking.
Lol. Jon noticed the Home-wrecker but dismissed the Faustina Faustian bargain.
I had to poke around to find this info so it's second hand (I don't really use the training system in scrolls games) so to start I found this
If you have installed Knights of the Nine, it is possible to permanently lose the reference for Master-level Restoration training as both of the advanced trainers, Marz and Ohtesse, suffer from scripted deaths as you progress through the questline and their replacements will not provide the necessary dialogue, though they will still offer advanced training.
And this
The two advanced trainers who can give you the master training reference necessary to start this quest are Marz in the Great Chapel of Mara in Bravil and Ohtesse in the Great Chapel of Arkay in Cheydinhal. They will direct you to Oleta, a citizen of Kvatch.
Oleta's requirement before she will provide training is that you must complete The Battle for Castle Kvatch quest.
I assume the advanced trainers are expert and journaymen respectively but I'm not sure as I said training is not really my thing
You could reverse pickpocket weapons, poison, I think even armor if I remember right
Has anyone told you yet that your spells don't have to affect a target to train you? You can just spam restoration or destruction spells even if there's nothing to heal/hurt and it will still level you.
Also you can cast spells much faster if you hold block while casting
Could you console command your way around the Restoration quest, much like you can in Skyrim? Look up the quest ID and the flag for the first stage of the Master quest, and set it to active? Not sure if it's as doable in Oblivion as Skyrim, but would be worth looking into?
Jon - Marz in Bravil chapel is an advanced Restoration trainer. She'll train up to Level 70
Oh, um, apparently getting the Crusader Boots causes her to be murdered...uh, sorry about that
