    I've watched both interviews with your boys. You can clearly see how different their personalities are. Ricky really elaborates on his answers and is very expressive. Brian was really subdued and direct. This is the exact same as my two boys! They're 16 and 13. My eldest is serious and deliberate with his words, the younger one is animated and talkative. But we love them equally! I'm really enjoying your videos, blogs, etc... Thank you for sharing with us!

      Thanks for watching :) My boys are very different, but equally wonderful. They are also best friends. The Lord knew what he was doing when he made them brothers.

    Loved this! Your son is so mature and likeable!!!
    Recently our oldest daughter, our first homeschool graduate, gave a friend some college advice very similar to Ricky's. She advised to try to always forge a relationship with every teacher. Never skip a class. Try to always sit up front. Five minutes early is on time because you need to have your work out ready to go when the professor walks in.
    Just found your channel and I am LOVING it! God bless!

      Thank you! He is a good boy, but maybe my opinion is biased ;) Your daughter's advice is exactly what her friend needed to hear. It's funny to me how high school graduates struggle with these basic concepts. Glad you are enjoying the channel!

      It is amazing. My boys are complete opposites, but as you said, each wonderful. Briana is just... well... also different and wonderful. :)

    What a nice young man. I appreciate his honesty. Please tell Ricky that he has truly helped me with homeschooling my son. My son is 10. This video has helped me to know what to make sure my son is prepared for in the future...like professors are very different from teachers and homeschool parents. Great interview. :)

    This was very interesting. I was a year ahead and so went away to college at 17. There were two girls on my dorm floor that were 16, and plenty of others that were 19. And this was in 1981! Several of us had skipped ahead and others started "later" because of their birthdays and school districts.

      He's in his 3rd semester now, and he is very comfortable. Still the baby in his classes, but he is a leader in spite of his age. I don't think it has been a hindrance to him at all.

      +The Fundamental Home I shared Ricky's advice with my son who will be entering community college in the fall. He said who would pay all that money and not go? I was glad to have that conversation with him.

    • @TheBealles

      That's great! It was surprising to Ricky, too, that people didn't care to show up. It seems so strange that he would even feel that he had to give that advice, but apparently he felt it needed to be said.

    new to your channel, frugalsimplelesswithmotheranddaughter ... gave a link... I wonder do you commute? a lot of college kids drink and smoke and do drugs which is so sad, but was it hard to sift through those kinds of students. Our daughter goes to a very small Christian school and we worry about that when she gets into college. Her friends are now all Christians, college wont be like that....what a great interview ... thank you very much.

      Ricky takes online classes and he also takes classes on campus. We don't allow our children to live on campus, though. At 16, we prefer them to be at home.

    Given that both boys mentioned writing, will you extend the length of written work for Brianna, to prepare her for college?

    • @TheBealles
      @TheBealles  8 років тому

      I will probably make changes, but still not add more. I think that, since I know what the colleges are doing now, I can better prepare her without overloading too much. We will definitely talk about MLA and APA. In fact, this year in English, we are specifically studying arguments. She will definitely benefit from the boys' experiences.

      I homeschool my daughter. Knowing that she was college bound I bought 100 blue books around the 9th grade and made essay writing rather than multiple choice approach the avenue of assessment, in all her "humanity" subjects, English, History, Literature, etc. This is what she will get in college so I figured might as well start early. Fortunately, I have lots of writing experience and so every essay was an opportunity for learning writing by doing deep editing. I accomplished this by typing out her essay and then do edits and then have her do rewrites. My mantra is "Good writing is simply rewriting."

    wow, great video guys!! do a lot of families homeschool their children in in your area? were you not happy with the public school system?... just curious to know☺..

    • @TheBealles
      @TheBealles  8 років тому

      There are a good number of families in our homeschool community. Many people make the choice to homeschool because they want to raise and educate their own children. It is not necessarily a reflection on the condition of the local public schools, although that may weigh into the decision. Rick and I made a video about our journey to homeschooling if you want to check that out- ua-cam.com/video/ipfr0Nzq398/v-deo.html

    Hi. May I ask how you all pay for college? We are starting with community college. We are trying to pay cash for college. I know all three of your wonderful kids have a bright future.

    • @TheBealles
      @TheBealles  7 років тому

      Combination of grants, scholarships, and work. Community college is the best place to start.

    Are you in a Christian university? Should Christian universities be more preferable for Christians?

    • @TheBealles
      @TheBealles  7 років тому +1

      No, he is not in a Christian University. A Christian University is an excellent choice for a student who must live away from home. For our children who are still living at home under their parent's guidance and are grounded in the faith, a local state university can be an option. Ricky is considering Bible College in the future, though.

    I want my classes to require 7 pages hahaha, I get 15 - 25 pages as an undergraduate.

    • @TheBealles
      @TheBealles  8 років тому +1

      :) Have no fear. Those are coming. This was just his first semester, and those were the beginning, "easy" courses. Brian's longest "paper" was something like 50 pages. It was practically a book.

  • @erin9868

    Based on what he said, he may want to consider pursuing a BFA, rather than a BA.

    • @TheBealles
      @TheBealles  8 років тому +1

      It just depends on what is available at the 4 year college he chooses to attend. He would really like to pursue animation or illustration.

    • @TheBealles
      @TheBealles  8 років тому

      He does get a bit of flak from others, but we are happy for him to have an opportunity to study what he loves. The colleges Ricky is considering are in state or have articulation agreements with our community college. Believe me, if you watch any of my other videos, you know that I do not like to waste a dollar. :)

    • @erin9868
      @erin9868 8 років тому +1

      Oh, that's really great. Best of luck to him - I hope he finds a program he loves. He will definitely be in the minority of art students with frugal, value-minded parents supportive of his major. It really makes a world of difference. Your kids are very fortunate to have you.

      Well, I suppose I sometimes have a peaceful tone/attitude. Other times, I am a bit more bubbly :) Have you seen my walking video? You can get a sense of it there. I thought Michelle permed her hair. Maybe it's the partial up-do in the video. I normally just wear my hair down.
