  • It finally happened, after roughly One and Half Years the Mid Norfolk Railway brought their first passenger train into the platform at Wymondham Abbey and what a way to bring back operation on half of the line.
The Spring Diesel Gala was planned to run since the beginning of 2024 with doubts that it would run given the issues with Crownthorpe Bridge and the reworks needing to take place to bring the line back into the market town. Around a month ago workers and volunteers started replacing the rotten wood and also the track and sleepers so they can see what they have to work with.
Up until the evening of the 24th of May then finished the project replacing the wooden supports, sleepers, track and ballast just in time for the Diesel Gala.
The Diesel Gala would have visiting Class 37 37800 'Cassiopeia' from Rail Operations Group, but due to a supposed speed dial failure it was canned and instead newly painted Class 37 37608 'Andromeda' would step in to run along the home fleet (minus the Class 14 D9520 which is still at the KWVR).
During the event newly acquired Class 03 03063 from the sadly passed Paul Mobbs (the previous owner of the loco) was named after him and had a ceremony of the naming of the loco at Thuxton earlier in the day, unfortunately I missed both the running of the 03 and the naming ceremony.
    Home Fleet:
    Class 03 - 03063 'Paul A. Mobbs' (Not featured)
    Class 33 - 33202 'Dennis G. Robinson'
    Class 47 - 47580 'County of Essex'
    Class 47 - D1933 (47596) 'Aldeburgh Festival'
    Visiting Loco:
Class 37 - 37608 'Andromeda' (from Rail Operations Group)
