- Academy award winning Director Oliver Stone talks with UC Berkeley's Harry Kreisler about Vietnam, his movies, and the art of cinema. Series: Conversations with History [Public Affairs] [Show ID: 7800]
Gotta love Oliver Stone.
I love Oliver Stone's films. He's without a doubt my favourite director.
He's so bold. Tarantino was just Weinsteins bitch compared to Stone the balls on him my goodness.
Its true that Stone has released more than a few bombs over the years, however he is still one of the best living directors.
Instablaster
All of his films were brilliant. It’s all about quality. How much a movie makes is irrelevant.
Love Oliver Stone's movies
He's Americana in itself now I think.
So eloquent and an amazing intellect. He's the Homer or Socrates of our times. The way he is framed in the media is disgraceful. Comparative to Orson Welles. A braver filmmaker than the likes of Scorsese, Spielberg etc.
this dudes a genius
anyone that breaks out of the matrix has a strong mind. it is so hard to do. im thankful for mediums like this and people like Oliver Stone that are not afraid to speak their truths
THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO UNCOVER WHAT THEY COVERED UP SO WELL.
Such an intellectual exposition of his era and the president's that he grew up with.
I just now saw this I wish I could have seen this 30 years ago. I spent a year in Vietnam and this will help me look at the truth. Thanks
Love the theme
Good point about Ace Ventura..

Mi director predilecto, y vaya mi admiración por vos. You are great !!!!
where can i get the soundtrack to this show, oh my god, i love those keyboards!!!!
kind of a prophetic comment on Alexander
I've watched a lot of Oliver Stone interviews and I've never seen him look this irritated.
Well he's talking about perception and using our senses many people lack that he's not speaking the same language he can't dumb it down and many resent having to make the effort to comprehend him.
Oliver Stones' movies are in a sense conversations with history, as spoken in this interview; but when you examine most of his movies, a current theme is a loss of innocence, and moreover, modern tragedies that strike a chord in the heart of those that are willing to watch his movies without a severe critical eye..born on the fourth of july and the story of Ron Kovic is great and the only film that gives evidence of great acting by Tom Cruise...only my opinion
Well that is what he discussed about being raised with perceptions about how life is vs reality of how life is particularly with trauma which is more than a loss of innocence and being naive it kills a part of a person sometimes they have to grieve the loss of their own life and identity too. Some soldiers come back from war and they are never the same after what they experience and witness and people who knew them still talk to them as if they are the same because they still have those perceptions so then the soldier feels alone because they know even friends and family don't really know them anymore since who they were no longer exists. Stone obviously was not completely debilitated as some are the creative outlet probably helped him he's being authentic but he layers it in drama to make it more palpable for most.
dude but i love platoon... great movie
When did Stone make this interview?
totally agree.
Based on this interview of course
Caro Olive , ti o sempre ammirato come uomo, e per tutte le cose che hai fatto , anche tutte le interviste che hai avuto con Putin, persona che io stimo molto , un 😘 ☺
Oliver Stone should make a Shakespeare movie. Perhaps Julius Caesar.
I appreciated his acting in both Rain Man and Magnolia; in fact Magnolia was very impressive; but perhaps it was what the subject matter entailed with born of the 4th of july that gave it more weight..in my opinion ("in my opinion" is the key phrase; I'm not stating it as fact...and you what is really funny..I cannot recall making that particular judgement on here, until I looked at the comment again)
You can espect that from O'reilly but from O Stone is realy surprising me (escuse mi bad english)
Stone wants to avoid how the magic bullet made the two bullet holes in the presidential limo windshield. That is one amazing bullet.
13:15 that's why i'm watching this
I know it says it was shot it 97 but it looks more like 77..
It looks late 90s to me.
Gr8
He said he was close with Ron Kovic until recently. Why, did Kovic die? I haven't heard that he's dead.
that says alot about you.
Harry Kreisler forgot The Doors and Talk Radio.
Theme music brought to you today, by...
Nintendo NES
rain man surely?
This looks way older than 1997 lol
Actually, in the movie JFK, he's spot on! Use yur common sense ppl.
The Conversation with History was mostly about how to make a movie.
STONE disagreed that is movies will be taking his reality or any movie that is fiction that differs with history. He treated us to the educational system and critical thinking skills of students. Well I wonder what he would say today being that it’s public school system is utter garbage?
Oliver seems to want to treat the JFK murder and Viet Nam as somehow separate.
I know I don't think they are separate.
When I watch this it will be interesting to see how separate he makes them look.
Have you seen JFK? If so I don't know how you would feel that way.
haha born in the usa 6:30
that really annoys stone
The Money Masters part 1
"Catharsis". "Asphyxic" similar just opposite
Oliver Stone is a real person?
Stones socks, hahahaha :)
You suck .Hhlaha. Obvios moron .
Magnolia?
in the deep future this will be viewed as our prophet from god.
I will be fully satisfied with Stone as soon as he apologizes for making The Doors
Moron.
To be fair, The Doors is the only Oliver Stone film that I couldn’t finish & I feel bad for doing that.
I didn't like The Doors because it was too over-the-top I became numb to what was happening and I just wanted it to end.
...and yet I've seen it 4 times. Go figure.
Wow, I also had that feeling of wanting it to end. The Doors is actually the only Oliver Stone film I didn’t finish watching. I feel bad doing that.
Nice socks ...
oliver stone-hugo chavez - josef stalin-pol pot

Heh Heh!

He should live in Venezuela without his millions of dolars and see the thrue storie, i wonder how many money Chavez paid him
C.i.A. stooge. Say something constractive.
@@rajkobjelica4905 Does the truth offend you? Clown
Oliver Stone is very hostile in this interview...he must have been going though a rough personal time..
I didn’t find him hostile at all.
Oliver Stone is a genius but he has bad taste in socks
Oliver is awesome but a poor choice for interviewer
constructive?.. ok... how about discussing stone's vietnam films... always taking sides... i hate that...
Vietnam war was illegal. USA massacred innocent Vietnamese families. These are documented facts!
I agree with Oliver stones perspectives on a lot of political issues but he seems very argumentative and a little conceited
I didn’t see that in Stone.
I agree with Your statement. I wonder what he would say today regarding our public school systems teaching critical thinking skills that would help students differentiate between fiction and history? Our school system is utter garbage.
this guy seems crazy. not normal crazy, but charlie sheen crazy. ironic really
Anyone would be a little erratic coming back from Vietnam
childlish? go watch it and compare them, THEN well talk.
This guy doesn't have an ax to grind? Hypocrite!
Terrible interviewer
the only movie i'll watch about vietnam war is we were soldiers. Oliver Stone's movies about vietnam were pure SHIT!
No, Oliver Stone’s Vietnam films are actually more realistic. You’re full of crap for supporting disgusting pro-war movies that glorify blind nationalism. Oliver Stone’s films have heart & it’s anti-war. War is wrong!
