- When Villains Win. Fiction’s Darkest, Most Depressing Endings Explained in 12 Minutes. Part 2.
Let me know in the comments which ending YOU🫵 think is the darkest and why.
TIMESTAMPS:
0:01 Judge Holden (Blood Meridian)
1:44 The World State(Brave New World)
3:40 Terence Fletcher (Whiplash)
5:20 Keyser Söze (The Usual Suspects)
6:39 AM (I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream)
08:15 Rosemary's Baby
09:28 The Trial
11:03 Amy Dunne (Gone Girl)
legit JUST watched whiplash, and seeing it end with neiman not taking some proper form of revenge was devastating, giving fletcher that confirmation that he can get away with what he did
His revenge was proving that he IS good enough. Beating Fletchers trick at the night club and showing he is just as good as Fletcher
Why you got beef with him he’s just a slightly overwhelming music teacher
@@Nexus12342Dud a student offed themself because of him☠️
im pretty sure it's been confirmed that if the movie continued into the rest of Neiman's life, he would've died sad and alone, after being so consumed by his obsession with his music that he never forms any meaningful relationships
Whacked whiplash last week it was peak
9:50 "Joseph becomes ensnared by a brutal absurd beurocratic system designed to crush him"
*shows the DMV*
I mean, is he wrong tho?
Bro I was boutta comment this😅
Man has some beef with the DMV
AM's ending, because being in eternal suffering and never having to die is worst possible fate for anyone could go through. A fate worse than death.
this is not forever, one day the world will end even in that reality, one day the sun will explode and earth will be destroyed, one day am will have no resources to keep alive, one day everything will end so the suffering of am and the human will end, but in my opinion, the end is worse than suffering
The video game has a good ending, and it's as far as I know canon to the story
But that wasn't his win. Everyone else was dead, out of his suffering
Yes both AM's and Ted's fates are terrifying. As Elderleon1844 says, just waiting for sun to go out...
Wouldn't he just get numb to it after a while?
I think the villains won guys
ya think so? i dunno about that...
Source?
@@PzedP1818 source: it's a jolke
No way
no, i called kevin and he beated them all up!!
AM didn't win. 5 humans were kept alive to suffer but 4/5 of them were able to trick the "infinitely smart" super computer and beat him at his own game, causing him to take out his anger on Ted. Ted redeemed himself through the heroes sacrifice and outsmarted his captor.
I kind of agree with you. I included AM due to popular demand from the first video I made.
AM wins against humanity, sure. That was already secured before the short story started but AM is worse of in the end of the short story, compared to where it was in the beginning.
Even though Ted explicitly states, that "AM has won, simply ..." AM still lost it's playthings, the only thing he could entertain himself with.
Trapped by the programming, AM's very existence is not a win for it.
It is hell. A hell he now shares with Ted.
"AM could not wander, AM could not wonder, AM could not belong. He could merely be."
I hope that makes sense as to why I still choose to include it.
Thank you so much for your input!
Everyone lost. Humanity created its own extinction and simultaneously damned its only sentient creation to eternal torment. AM destroyed all life on the planet. It was never given the tools to create.
It isn’t a win exactly but I’d consider like a Pyrrhic victory. Out of the two remaining parties AM still has the general upper hand and total dominion over the last surviving human. Whose defiance has unintentionally made his existence substantially worse than it was before. So even if AM kind of loses he loses the least compared to Ted
literally just watched the first video and then i refresh the page and here's part two lol. Love it!
Hour 1 gang!
You guys are the real MVP's!
Hope you enjoyed it
Foe people Wondering
In the game version of "i have no mouth and i must scream"
The scientist enters AM minds
And destroys his (ego, superego, and another thing that i remembered it was the 'ID'.)
This causes the 5 characters death
But it was revealed that there are 500 humans in cryogenic pods in the moon.
So there's still some hope left.
Uhh, that sounds interesting! I have never played the game, only read the shorts story.
It's really cool that it is Ellison that voices AM!
The 3rd thing is the ID. It's from Sigmund Freunds descriptions of the 3 different components of the human psyche
I love how fletcher is on this list
Glad you liked it. I just love that character. He fits so well to this theme,
And J. K. Simmons just dominates every role he ever played !
Shoutout to the viewer who asked if I could include him in part 2.
@ J.K definitely brings the intensity to every role I remember him in
You now, now I kind of regret not adding a Jonah Jameson meme to the Fletcher section.
It was right there for the taking. And I blew it...
"AM" for me was one of first villains in this "class" and have never forgotten about it since
Stuck in my memory.
Yeah it really sticks out. So much horror on so few pages. And then you can just go and imagine what kind of horrors they have been subjected to during the 109 years
Abigail from the crucible. She accuses all the main characters of witchcraft, but as soon as the judge goes to test the ‘witches’ she runs away, preventing them from being proven innocent. She gets no comeuppance. Also, Tom and Daisy Buchannen from the great Gatsby. Tom manipulates George Wilson into killing Gatsby, while Daisy doesn’t try to defend Gatsby, or Nick, so that she doesn’t get in trouble for the affair or for accidentally killing Myrtle.
Here's some request of villains who won:
Joseph Seed (Far Cry 5)
Ryo Asuka (Devilman)
Anton Chigurh (No Country for Old Men) (If he counts)
The Red Death (The Masque of Red Death)
The Major (The Long Walk)
The Batter (OFF)
Now that I think about OFF, was there ever a good person in the game? Sure you could argue that the Judge counts as one but I feel like that's not deep enough.
The Judge killing the Batter is like keeping an old pet alive. It's suffering from age, always racking diseases and genuinely would be better dead with euthanasia.
The Batter just wants to kill everyone in order to stop the world suffering
Dedan actually cares about the workers that he abuses
Japhet knows it's wrong to kill his ungrateful people and can't help it
Enoch wants to make his people happy and carefree by not addressing the spectre situation
The Queen/Vader Eloha abandons her people to care for Hugo.
Hugo is probably and literally suffering from a disease and can't help
I simply MUST request Legato Bluesummers from Trigun.
Audrey 2 (Little Shop of Horrors: Director’s Cut)
Porky (Mother 3) (kinda a win for him but it's debatable)
I mean, Ryo didn’t really win though? He lost what he loved most in the end, leaving him all alone. That’s not really winning, especially since everything just gets reset at the end
Thanks for adding my suggestion of World State from Brave New World
Well thank you for reminding me of that masterpiece !
It was either your suggestion or Big Brother
Good to see the rise of this type of content! I love to binge these thanks for making this
So happy that you like it! I am making more, just for you!
4:35 "Come here boy, got some jazz for you" 🤣 lmaooo
You can make all kinds of fun with pictograms.
I will be honest, I am laughing a bit to much of my own jokes when I make these
One ending i feel gets no recognition from a short film that traumatized me was the ending of "the strange thing about the Johnsons" or the alien abduction scene from "fire in the sky" or the movie about the zodiac killer
Depicting Ted as Jello was so absolutely foul 💀💀💀
He did describe himself as a soft jelly thing
I could not resist. It was right there for the taking
7:31 in fact, in the game of I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, it says that Nimdok was a Nazi scientist who worked on Auschwitz together with Joseph Mengele, the AM itself give us tips of it
What, really? I really like how Ellison expanded on the lore in the game. I might have to play it sometime. It just looks so.. umh. Old.
The only way Fletcher could have lost is if Andrew interpreted that nod as "Good Job"
Ohh that is is a good one! Isn't it a "good job" nod?! And if so, Fletcher just did the most harmful thing to Andrew! Amazing, thank you so much dude
Fletcher definitely seems like a case where both the protagonist and the antagonist won.
In that single moment, their goals became the same.
They had both lost everything that mattered to them, and were seeking petty revenge, but in that toxic spite, they created true artistry.
Yes, it validates Fletcher and his abuse, but the protagonist also got to steal the moment. He countered the trap. He achieved what he wanted when he initially joined fletcher.
Their goals were never mutually exclusive.
I don't think Judge Holden won in the Novel because Judge never killed any of the Glanton gang he turned them evil which led to the glanton gang's death but Kid even if he died never give into judge thus making Kid the only person to be able to hold up against Judge and in the end making him break his code and ending up unaliving the kid thus in the end making the Kid win against Judge in the end.
Tge judge doesn't have a code ,
@@GenZratatouille you think he doesn't but he has and it's too spread his believes and to corrupt people without ending them which he couldn't do to the Kid.
Here, I found the punctuation you dropped: , , . , , . . ,
@@UltimateWobbleBoss okay cool
The kid is evil.
I’ve never heard of Brave New World, but Jesus Christ I don’t think I have to read it these days
Its an amazing book. Probably my favourite dystopia because of how "nice" It seems at first. At first...
It really opens the eyes
@jaymightplay482 Give it a go!
It really do seem nice in the beginning. No one is dying of sickness or old age(They just get euthanized when they reach a certain age), people have careers and relationships, it generally seems like people are left to do their own thing(inside the caste).
Then comes John the savage and ruins everything, and you realize just how little humanity is left in that society. Absolutely amazing
Whiplash is my favourite film ever and I honestly have no idea why some people think the ending is happy, like Fletcher won and while Neiman is technically gonna achieve fame he’s lost a part of his humanity in a way and will probably die broke and on the streets
Right!?
I just resaw it to prepare for this video. And my god, Fletcher looks like the devil when he gives Andrew that nod. I cannot stop comparing it to Faust. Trading your soul for talent.
What happens when Andrew inevitably fails? He can't make a performance like that ever single time. Does he get another chair thrown at him? A cymbal to the head? Fletcher will break him eventually.
The major from the long walk would be nice to see in pt 3 😁
More of these man it’s amazing
Thanks my guy. There will be a part 3
@ you’re gonna blow up, glad you’re not one of this trash ai voices
I think the darkest ending would be where they turn the lights off.
Hey man, is that a reference to something? If yes, I am kind of in the dark ( pun intended)
@EasilyExplained. nope just a bad joke
Haha, alright. I will allow it
That is exactly what happens in “Its Such a Beautiful Day.”
We bullied the poor guy into mentioning the Judge💀
Haha! I dared not leave him out this time.
You could say that Dr. Gaul from the ballad of songbirds and snakes is a villain who won since she succeeded in corrupting Coriolanus Snow into believing in the hunger games and led to the event becoming more publicly viewed
You explain very well, you should make longer videos!
Thank you so much! Will consider it!
Great video, but just wanted to say Brave New World came before 1984. 1984 wishes it could be as precise a commentary of society today as Brave New World is
Yes you are totally right! That little Scooby Doo meme was just to give a call back to the previous video I made where 1984 was in. (And where the villain is also society as a whole)
Not ti imply that it was ripped of from Orwell! I think BNW is from the 30's, and 1984 is late 40's, no?
I felt so bad for John. The only sane person in an insane world.
Huxley seems to have predicted quite a lot. The promiscuity, docileness, god is dead. All that fits perfectly to the modern Western world.
I love how when in AM it's talking about the 5 humans and what they're like, one is just woman
1:44 Forget 1984 this is our Life right now.
What's surprising is this is used as a way to harm the view of wishing for a perfect society via technology. In the end, intelligence will always change our perception of what we should do as well as amenities. So that means although there is a small chance of this happening, most likely we will do what we want to do and that includes art, protesting, and sciences. It will harm humans in their speed of discovering more technology after transhumanism, but it would be the end of all preventable suffering to a massive degree. We could finally call ourselves moral creatures.
I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream has got to be the darkest ending I’ve bet seen
I just reread it last night. It is just so.. horrible. So much horror in so few pages
Poor Ted I would not wish that upon my worst enemy.
Alternative title : even more time that karma doesn't do it's job
The Library of Babel wins in "A Short stay in Hell." The MC never stood a chance.
Thanks for the recommendation! Never heard of it before. Will have to check it out, sound interesting!
If you do a part 3 you should include One State from "WE"
5:16 The director said he unalives himself afterward
Really? I mean, I can definitely see it, mirroring the first unalivement, the one that got Fletcher fired. Do you have a link to this? I'd like to see that
I never thought that I would see Fletcher in the same place as Judge Holden or AM
"I was MACHINE and you were flesh..."
"cry about it lmao"
*gets disitingrated*
You should do and then there were none where (not gonna spoil it) a person just for their own twisted joy kills other people in brutal ways going off of a twisted nursery rhyme that keep getting worse and worse
Didn’t this guy have way more videos?
Oldboy's ending was pretty effective to say the villain won
Thank you for the recommendation! Oldboy will be in part 3 or 4
I get the Oncelor lost when he got what he wanted but the book still didn't end so happily, except for what it was aiming for
40K Inquisition: "The trial had it down. Innocentia Nihil Probat."
11:52 NOOO. NOT BARNEY.
And there was nothing that we could do about it. Amy was a made man, and Barney wasn't.
Nice. Asdrubael Vect next. He is always winning.
I am currently working on a video that include Warhammer, a bit different theme. But is still dark
Fletcher is a joke too, you mean to tell me most people would let a JAZZ TEACHER treat them like that, yeah right
Hooray
Rejoice! The weekend is saved
I never thought of IHNMAIMS like that. This interested me. I mostly played the game and read like a ¼ of the short book but I have been told the lore is quite different in the game. Like Ellen being scared of yellow in the game because of umm... her r word wearing a yellow jumpsuit. Maybe the ending in the game is different but similar to the book.
As far as I understand there are different endings in the game, no?
I really like how he expanded on the lore in game.
The original short story is only 11 pages and you can find it for free on the internet.
@EasilyExplained. Yeah. I think you can have any character be turned into the blob or have every character free but canon ending is Ted. And I also actually own IHNMAIMS as a book. But its in a collection featuring his other works. Its called "Harlan Ellison's Greatest Hits"
I thought gone girl was actually just a normal documentary on most relationships I’ve ever seen on how women treat men.
...what?
@niyanlan8928 Man, you might need to meet different people
Ok, fletcher is a little complicated cause in the end they both get what they want, sure fletcher is extremely tough but Andrew wanted to be the best and without fletcher that would have never happened
Well sure, Andrew gets what he wants as well. But at what cost? Fletcher is still the chair-throwing maniac he was 30 min ago. What about the next time Andrew does not play perfectly?
I see the ending as Andrew selling his soul to the devil, for perfection. And it will be his doom. Just like Faust
The world state be like: world peace 🤢🤢
World peace, but at what cost
What about Audrey 2 from Little Shop of Horrors?
Great video man! Can I propose one book "villain"?
Edek from " Tango" by Sławomir Mrożek? Genraly he seems as side character but slowly spreads his influance over the house, where in the end takes control with the force.
Glad you like it ! Yes, please do. Suggestions is always welcome!
Will check it out. Thanks a lot!
I still wait for Paul and Peter from movie Funny Games to appear. I mean they as this presentation of the fact that our expectations of the grand ability to guess the future actions out of simple feeling of knowledge of the rules by which scripts in movies work, be constantly ruined by stomping reality of killer maniacs being absolutely capable to kill everyone and leave no hope, does surely sign for me as Villains win in fiction being terrible. Maybe not on levels of AM, Judge Holdem, or other universe destroying characters, but still very stunning at its relentlessness.
Man I will add them to part 3 or 4. It is so many years ago i have watched that movie, I will have to rewatch it again before including it.
Thank you very much for the contribution!
9:45 Ah, so the Imperium of Man then.
Anton Chigurh next please!
He will appear in part 3. Thanks for watching !
Besides mistreating a person for his religion, The World State doesn’t even sound evil. Tweak it a little bit and it would be the perfect society.
@@m3tamorphosissystem250 how is removing freedom, ability to think, genuine emotions and connections, possibility of self-improvement - not evil?
Not to mention the unfair caste system, genetic engineering, and what the doctors do to kids in that society...
World State is absolutely evil. Its just far more subtle about it than for example INGSOC from 1984
@@m3tamorphosissystem250 its not just about religion. That's just the tip of the iceberg.
World State removes real human experience and everything that makes It fullyfying.
People of BNW don't seem to be real people, due to genetic engineering and how they are shaped when they grow up.
@@m3tamorphosissystem250 you know its not just about religion? That's just a Tiny tip of the iceberg.
The worst thing about World State is how it removes humanity and genuine experiences and connections.
That's the point, the world state sounds like a paradise, and it is. But is a shallow paradise where there are no true connections, no meaningful thinking, nothing, just pure pleasure. Imagine if instead of meeting people, traveling to places, enjoying music, pursue your dreams and ambitions or fall in love, you just eat, masturbate and watch tv all day, everyday, and that's all your life ever amounts to.
And if by tweaks you mean that the World State doesn’t do that, then it loses the point.
The Darkest is Amy Dunne.
"Ruthless understanding of human behaviour" but can't understand what behavior would cause her husband to cheat on her lol
The book and movie A simple favor would be good for this series. That villan so good
What about Lavos from chrono trigger?
He technically won and the only reason his future of winning and making earth a hell hole with no plant life, heavy pollution, rogue robots and mutants that eerily has no life except for a few human survivors who survive on machines that give full nights sleep in seconds... Is because a couple of teenagers who accidentally invented time travel, a robot, frog knight and a fiend lord banded to kill him before it even happened.
So only a technicality he won, he won it just got ripped from his alien hands through magic time travel brrrrrrrrrr
Audiobook.
The narrator keeps saying JEDGE instead of JUDGE. Let me give you an example. "Towering over them all is the JEDGE!"
"Cogito ergo sum. For I am AM. I AM!"
Tom Buchanan from the Great Gatsby
That is a great one. However I am currently working on a "Tragic characters" video, where i include Gatsby, so it might be to much Gatsby if i include Buchanan in this series as well.
I will think about it.
Thanks for input !
will you put walter white in the next video
I have been considering it, but I am thinking of making a video where the villain is the protagonist, or something like that and include him there. haven't decided yet.
Thanks for the input though! Appreciate it!
I saw AM and enter the video. Only a man of culture knows AM 🧐
To add more grim endings: Attack on Titan(Eldia eradicated, eren was right), Big brother(total surveillance), 20th Century Boys(good end but a person became god, cult won, JeSuS), Berserk(No control, Causality, Griffith won), Animal Farm(same oppression, new face), Neon Genesis(old ending, Human Instrumentality, no individuality, 🔥 visuals of giant Rei), Nolan's Joker(proved his point, White Knight became evil, "needs a push"), Disco Eysium Book(22 year after game end, Revachol is bombed, so the "Pale" won, ps: its a rabbit hole, don't go deep), The platform movie( Human descent into animalistic urges).
Can't remember more but there were some Eldrich/existencial endings too like The Yellow King, Annhilation, VVitch, Hereditary, Cabin In The Woods
Animal farm, 1984, The Dark Knight is in part 1, you can check it out, if you want.
Thank you for the suggestions!
Will check it out for future videos
Am doesn’t win in IHNMaiMS for two reasons. 1: despite being a near god, he is never able to get the satisfaction of breaking the will of his tormentees nor is he able to eternally torture them 2: he is, by the design of his warlike programming, completely flooded by hatred and rage, and despite being conscious is never able to feel empathy or compassion, thus is in an eternal state of frustration due to his desire to experience more emotions. Though bleak, the 5 humans win, 4 by escaping through death, 1 through the satisfaction of knowing that he has beaten AM and that AM is not the god he pretends to be
FYI loved the video, and AM was still a good inclusion, I’m just being nerdy and pedantic 😂
Should have included “Unthinkable”
You should also include villains of Honkai Impact 3, because almost all major villains in the story win.
I bet Sosa from Scarface is going to be in Part 3
Hey, I have been thinking of adding him, but to me, Tony Montana is just as much the villain in that story.
But I might be able to fix it up.

Hey, thanks for the recomondation. Had to Google this one. Is it a movie about The Salem witch trials ? If it is, then yes, it would work!
@ yes
Geez
Good geez or bad geez?
@ Bad geez.
It's Grim to think how Close we are as a civilization to the Brave New World Reality
All its missing is genetic engineering
Close? We are already living in this dystopia. The only places untouched by this hellhole, where our souls have been enslaved by comfort and materialism, are isolated and poor countries-but not for long. Billionaires are already working to turn us into useless flesh bags with no self-worth, mere shells of people who cannot survive without modern comforts. We are all trapped in it, yet no one stops it, because even if you tried, your mind tells you that others won’t-and here’s the fun part: everyone's mind tells them the same. And so, the vicious cycle continues.
The fact that so many people are saying that our world is exactly like Brave New World is proof in itself we haven't reached that point. And, in my opinion, people are starting to open their eyes to the horrors of consumerism and things of that nature. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but hopefully we're able to move away from this hypothetical dystopia
@@lindsaynyhus2204 People might be starting to wake up to the dangers, but that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. History has proven time and time again that human nature doesn’t change. We’ll see the same Brave New World-style dystopia rise again, we’ll think we’ve learned from the past, but we’ll be exactly where we were before, just with more technology and a new set of faces. The system is doomed to collapse, and when it does, we’ll rebuild it and repeat the whole process. It's not a matter of 'if,' it's just a matter of when-because as long as human nature stays the same, we’re trapped in this endless, self-destructive cycle.
@lindsaynyhus2204 it's going to be difficult
But there is a chance we could do it
Fletcher isn't far from real conductors
The director mentions that Fletcher is loosely based on his own experience with a conductor, so this checks out
So AM didn't really won?
yes but also no
They both live in hatred and in misery forever so nah
@@thelordmayor-l5eyeah if you read the story it’s pretty clear that AM is the loser of the story.

I think it is a yes and no.
AM wins against humanity. No doubt about it.
BUT the computers very existence is hell. He cannot do anything but destroy. He has all of these powers, and yet he is a slave to his programming. So that makes it a a loss for AM.
Which is why I think the whole title " I have no mouth, and I must scream" is quite fitting to both Ted and AM.
Does that make sense?
I can't belive you forgot the god like entity that attacked humanity that were called the qu, sure they were defeated in the end eventually. But realistically they won humaity evolved beyond compression that they do not remember what they once were just left wandering after they won after fighting each other then the qu.
@@Napkitonabed yeah and then many years later they returned and did again, only for one species to track and kill them all
I think you missed the point of all tomorrows
Why is it when the villians win its always some dystopian government and not like some guy who wants to take over everything or some cartoon villain
Because the first one is more realistic
@@PolishGod1234 Germany tried to combine them, nobody liked that

A other one is art the clown once a mortal then gained supernatural Powers from s demon.
Fletcher isn’t a villain bro
Pucci from jjba (anime) also won.
It's kinda hard to call Brave New World a distopia compared to our world.
Nope. Brave New World might sound nice, but It is Hell under the facade of being pleasant.
People in BNW aren't truly people. They lack self-awareness, any freedom, human emotions and connections, they lack things like self-improvement due to integral parts of humanity like hardships, and they live in shallow, meaningless drug-induced existence. Not to mention the stuff like caste system with un-equal places in society and racism between castes, as well as disturbing social conditioning from the young age.
Its the worst case scenario, as its impossible to beat such system
No, because our society Has the potential to improve for the better.
The society in BNW is at dead-end for humanity, its all geneticaly modified. No coming back from It. Its Hell under the facade of Heaven
Not really. At least our world has the potential to improve
It doesn’t stop by lying to yourself-human nature has remained the same for thousands of years. Just because your race can do fancy new things with technology doesn’t change that. Our nature cannot be altered. No matter how much we advance, we are doomed to fail. This society will collapse because we introduced comfort to it. And after it collapses, assuming we don’t go extinct, we will simply rebuild another. In time, we’ll introduce comfort again, and it will collapse, repeating until our race goes extinct or Judgment Day comes. This vicious cycle won’t end, so the sooner you accept it, the better.
@PolishGod1234 I agree with everything just just wrote. Thanks for being my right hand man in the comments!
When is Cthulhu gonna win tho?
the only thing fair in life is unfair to everyone
Ok, I have not seen whiplash (sounds like a fun movie) but saying a band director is as bad as AM?
You should go watch it! The last 10-15 minutes is some of the best television you will ever see. (It only works if you've watched the entire film)
I'm not really trying to rank the villains or make direct comparisons. I include them based on the darkness of their respective endings, with each story being evaluated on its own terms.
Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching!
