    The KitPimp Pathfinder Bergen is an MTP Bergen has been designed with the Infantry in mind, the true spartan warriors of the British Army and Armed Forces, and brings together all the most commonly asked for mods for issued kit into one easy to use package. This is the kind of rucksack or backpack you need if you want something easy to distribute your kit around as well as being comfy so you can walk and carry weight more easily!
    A lot of thought has gone in to the overall design itself. The design includes features such as
    110 Litre main body
    2 x 17 Litre Side Pouches
    3 x Utility pouch (4 Litres each)
    Poncho pouch (8 Litres)
    Sewn mesh pocket with drawstring top at side
    Shoulder strap enhancement
    Tactical floating lid
    Padded mesh back
    Commanders Top lid with internal mesh pockets featuring a 3-sided zip
    Designed to make carrying weight whilst walking a pleasure.
    That’s all on top of the standard 120 litres already on offer = thus bringing it up to 150 litres.

    I got the mk 1 version about a year ago in OD green. I tend to agree with your experience of it : the materials, buckle, zips etc are good quality, the pouches and organisation they afford are brilliant and the carrying capacity is huge however, there are a few downsides. Due to size of the main pack it effectively places the 3 pouches and poncho pouch further away from your back. You mentioned that you needed to keep weight in this area down and that is certainly true but even with relatively light weight items it’s still a problem as the mass is still far away from your back and impacts on your centre of gravity. I found with a full pack it constantly felt it was pulling me backwards. The back length is also too short and the belt is around my middle rather than on my hips and there is little adjustment available. I know it’s designed for the military and would sit on top of the belt kit (the pack belt is removable for this reason) however, long gone are the days when I was wearing belt kit and I find not being able to take the weight of the pack on my hips properly means it’s all on the shoulders. The side pouches are huge, so much so that when fully packed it’s impossible to walk through a standard doorway wearing it which is a pain getting it out of the house in the first place plus it’s a bugger walking through dense woodland as it catches on trees and branches. I bought the yoke harness separately and use the side pouches as a day pack and either leave them empty or just shove them in the main pack until needed. All in all, if you are parachuting behind enemy lines for extended periods and need to carry food, water, ammunition, batteries, radios, NVGs, and all the other kit you need then this pack is what you need. For civy use / bushcraft, personally I find it a bit too big and I’d rather look for smaller, lighter kit options to fit in a smaller pack. For me, probably around 100 litres is enough.

    I use the good old Berghaus Vulcan personally. That back system just looks a bit off to me, the load lifter straps like you say really dont look to do anything. Also its very short that back system. Soldier '95 and the old Berghaus cyclops systems come with i think 4 sizes? That looks even shorter than the small offering by them.

    • @LundysWildcampBushcraft
      @LundysWildcampBushcraft  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for watching mate appreciate it ye it's definitely a bit too short and the load lifters don't work at all I mainly use the Warrior X300 assault pack it's the most comfortable pack I've ever had from a military system type pack I will be passing on a lot of issues to the company atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍

    • @kitpimpuk7949
      @kitpimpuk7949 4 місяці тому

      Hi, is based on the shortback bergen, is designed mainly for sitting above a soldiers belt kit, Re the back system generally not really had any feedback about it so far but we've taken Lundys feedback on board :)

    • @leerolfe5332
      @leerolfe5332 4 місяці тому +1

      @@kitpimpuk7949 I served In the British Infantry so have experience in the packs I mentioned on a professional level. What you are saying is correct but only to a margin. It's recomended to size down on a PLCE for instance but only in some cases to allow for webbing. I'm 6ft 2 so fairly tall. I would most certainly not want to yomp a 60lb + bergen on a short back as the belt strap would be way too high and very uncomfortable. I've tabbed 1000's of miles in the set up with a long back ;)

    • @leerolfe5332
      @leerolfe5332 4 місяці тому +1

      So yeah your pack shows really great potential i think. Some cracking features with the pouch set up and other stuff.
      A blatent copy of the cyclops or PLCE for the load lifters and offer it in a longer option for us more lanky types and I think you'll have a big winner. 👌

    I've been looking at this bergan for a while now, however lots of reviews have stated that the shoulder straps are poorly designed and very uncomfortable, how have you found this?

    • @LundysWildcampBushcraft
      @LundysWildcampBushcraft  28 днів тому +1

      Thanks for watching mate appreciate it ye it's a cracking pack but I'm not a fan of the shoulder straps the lifting straps at the top are no good to be honest and it feels like the pack pulls you back a bit if you don't load it correctly otherwise I really like the design it just all depends on what you need to take with you it's definitely better when using webbing hope that helps atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍

    Even though it looks a solid bit of kit. I'm not a fan of it, it looks way too big and cumbersome.
    A decent bag for back at the FOB and living out of, or for sticking in the back of a vehicle in Helmand.
    But for mooching about the hills in the UK for a few days, what on earth are you carrying in, where you would need a 150l?
    To even fill a normal 120l PLCE bergen takes an awful lot of gear. So unless you're carrying in loads of specialist gear, like video recording equipment or bales of cocaine. I'm failing to see why anyone (civilian) would need so much space.
    Now if the did a 3/4 size one, where the bergen was 60l, with zip on side pockets at 10l each. That would be ideal.

    • @LundysWildcampBushcraft
      @LundysWildcampBushcraft  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for watching mate appreciate it some good points from yourself that I agree with ye it's a massive bit of kit I would prefer it to be long back and around 100 litres as I said in the video it pulls back too much I do carry a lot of camera and lightning equipment but I filled it up with as much kit as I could to see how it preformed and how it felt when carrying it on a decent walk and it wasn't good I have a commander's patrol pack from KitPimp same design as this and it's perfect you can find that video on my channel if interested atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍

      @@LundysWildcampBushcraft Nice one. I'll check out the patrol pack vid. 👍
      Yeah, all that weight so far from your back, can't be comfortable. Totally agree it should be a long back too. I have an OG long back and I find it more comfortable than the short backs that I have, especially with the side pockets on. End up too wide and bashing off of things, and with no belt kit on to help support it either. the short backs are just less comfortable.
      Cheers, mate.

      @@kitpimpuk7949 Yeah, I definitely get this is for military use and a solid bit of kit. I'm totally looking at this with civvy eyes and mindset. No belt kit on and no need to hump a Javelin tube and a bunch of link for the GPMG. etc.
      A smaller version would be ideal, as I really do like the basha pouch and utility pouches. Around 90 - 100l with the pockets on. Somewhere in between the NI pack and this, with a padded waist belt.
      That for me would be perfect.

      Hi Richard, appreciate the comment, we've set the price far below what other brands offer in the UK and the feedback we've had is fantastic, you may not be a serving soldier but this is a system that takes all the modifications most squaddies asked for in tailoring and puts them together, yes it is "fussy" but that's what soldiers want in a pack, as for being expensive, materials and fabric etc are pricey and for what your getting compared to other brands is a complete system
