Man those 53 series where noisy high pitched. Decades ago the city that I still live in today. A ready mix concrete company had cement trucks with the engines in the rear and the drum facing forward with a single 1 person cab on the left side. This one particular 4 lane main state highway I’d be going downhill and these ready mix trucks would be going uphill. They where loud , even with mufflers. The engine compartment consists of a radiator shroud , a top lid over the engine and a rear shroud other then thst the engines in this case where clearly visible from the sides. I found out later that they where 53V Detroits. I can’t remember if they where 6V or 8V but they where loud even with my windows rolled up. Them going uphill they where always fully loaded coming out of the batch plant. AW memories of times past.
They can also do a million miles before an overhaul. Its got straight through pipes which I'm not a fan off . They can be set up in a way as not be as noisy.
My name is Jerry for real and this is what my friends tow truck sounded like for about 2 hours and I live in #detroit how ironic... lol. Cool show truck though. #nickstowinginc | www.nickstowinginc.com
This is a symphony of sound to an old firefighter like me.
Thanks, good memories.
That was General Motors version of the Chrysler air raid siren

Gorgeous Loadstar! Love the 53 series Detroits!
Wound up real good . Sears had some small semis in the 60 and they would rasp just like this one
Just have to love a screamin jimmy....................

Lol! Needs a few more gears
Agreed!
Sure runs clean!
I've seen and heard enough Cummins engines I've rather hear a Detroit Diesel engine sometimes
That right there is a gear heads wet dream!

sounds like a big block
Well a 6v53 is a petty big block. Only 5.2 Liters though... but it weighs about 1500lb.
+Chase Rayfield yea I own a 6v53. I was just referring to the sound
Ah, very good... I only own half a 6v53 heh, I like this sound of the 3-53 and 6v53 better than the 4-53.
+Chase Rayfield yea I have to agree there
@@Wingnut353 2 srtoke too.
I'm in Trans !
Sounds like a 71 but whatever
