LOL, I like that comment -- "everyone wants to hear but no one can sing." It's so true. The best version I heard was at a gymanfa in a small town by a Welshman who sang the way the old Welshmen sang when I was a child. They just had a certain quality to their voices. I agree -- very nice. Nice harping, as well. I really like that arrangement.
Da Iawn at 1:56! D y Garreg wen is an over dramatic piece that everyone wants to hear but no one can sing. His version of You raise me up in Welsh is heart warming, the last note superb! Everyone should want to hear this voice.
Wonderful harpist, but would we hear the singer at all without the microphone? The poor boy sounds inexperienced and frankly nervous? Shut your eyes and really listen! Yes, 1 nice high note ...but this is not a Welsh tenor! Sorry, real singing is not pretty faces backed up by microphones, it is heart and breath control, hard work and the gift of a good voice. Come on, Wales, you can do better than this!
Do you know of any recordings which showcase the "old" style or singing? This is a great rendition, but for us who are World Welsh we have a limited exposure to the "old" Welsh culture.
Well, I can a bit of some Irish and Scottish gaelic. Perhaps I'm a Scandinavian "Celtomanic". My first terrier was an Irish lne, the present is Welsh. Cymru i do not understand, but with my dog we sing the Welsh national Anthem. M. Nicky K in Finland
